Plexi glass to glass tank

Anyone have any experience with siliconing plexi glass to glass tank. I might able to get a hold of some thick plexi glass and want to make an external overflow using it.

Unfortunately it just wont work. Silicon will not adhere to plexi-glass (acrylic) at all. You can find a primer (I cant remember the name) that when applied to the acrylic will improve the adhesion, but it still isnt sufficient for structural strength. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Cheers,

Chris

Thanks Chris! In a way this is good news. It would be bad if I were to go ahead with the project. :)

back wall and 3 baffles in my tank.

my bad, ok on the in side not out.

Yeah it can hold alright on the inside but I definitely would not encourage it as a 'water-bearing' wall or 'attachment'.

+1 to that. Would have not thought otherwise, untill i found out.

You can use 1/4" glass for an external overflow, you don't need anything thicker. 1/4" glass is cheap enough to void any reasons for using acrylic.

might be too thin i think. just in case i bump into it. probably going with 3/8.

Lot's of tanks are made from 1/4", unless your overflow is bigger than 40 gallons I wouldn't worry about it.
