how do I quiet down my overflow?
I have a 100g corner round which is sumped to the basement. And the herbie set is noisey any ideas?
My choice was the Hofer Gurgle Buster, WOW what a differece.
whats causing the noise?......could you post a pic......a "Herbie" should be silent....
If you're running a Herbie, then you have two drains correct? If so I would wager a guess that you plumbed those two drains into one before they hit the sump, if so this is your problem.
Herbie overflows don't make any noise, so you must have something wrong. Post pics/description of your overflows and your problem will be solved.
Are you running a good gate valve or a ball valve? Is the main drain making the sucking sound, or is it the overflow drain making the noise? If it's main drain, close valve a little. emergency drain, open main drains valve a little. You need to use a Gate valve not a ball valve though. ball valves can't be adjusted sensitively enough.

noise from overflow
The overflow was only drilled with 1 large drain and 1 small hole for the return from the pump. It is making a sucking noise and at times it will just whoosh and then its quiet until the overflow fills again. Any ideas for the way it is drilled already, because emptying it is not an option.

Ahh, you need a standpipe, you don't have a herbie but rather an open drain by the sounds of it.
yes its a stand pipe, not a herbie
you are correct it is a standpipe. Any ideas
Drilled on the bottom or the back? A picture would help figure it out. I have a single corner drain on the back and came up with a pseudo Herbie that is quiet and works well.
Sounds like you need a Durso style standpipe. google Durso, you will find a ton of pictures and writeups how to make them near silent. My Durso on my 45g was pretty close to silent. Herbie is dead silent, but requires 2 holes for drains

My 155 is drilled in the back, 2 overflows what a racket. So I built 2 Hofer Gurgle Busters and that solve the problem. No I can hear if the sump is low and top it up right away.
This is my thread on it and a link to the Hofer build page: http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=58944 http://home.everestkc.net/jrobertson...struction.html |
Ok seriously we can't read minds:
I use Durso Standpipes, very easy to put together. Made my 2 overflows silent.
