where to by phyto in canada?
I'm looking to buy a live disc culture of nanochloropsus phytoplankton using paypal
where would I buy this along with f2 fertalizer? |
reefcrew.com
|
homegrownreef.com
|
thanks I'll check them out
|
can you start cultures with those?
|
Yah, i use live phyto to start all my batches with.
I used to use the disks but a live batch is just as easy, and alot faster. Mostly you just save money in shipping alot of disks and they keep for a couple of months. Ive had some that never did grow phyto tho, you normaly dont have that with the live batch as a seed source. Also you can be sure that a phyto disk has little or no contamination, but if you have a reputable source for phyto locally that is a better choice in my opnion. |
I found everything but a density stick anyone know where to get it I tried homegrown and reefcrew
any other places? maybe in t.o |

Plankton Genesis Nannochloropsis Phytoplankton - 3L Plankton Genesis offers LIVE phytoplankton products in two of the most popular strains – Nannochloropsis and Isochrysis. Both of these products are available at Reef Aquatica. Available in 1L, 2L and 3L sizes. Live Phyto is a great feed for your reef; corals, filter feeders, copepods, isopods and other micro-organisms will enjoy the extra food source. It can be used to increase the micro-organism populations. NOTE: We might substitute multiple 1L for 2L or 3L sizes. |
Was hoping to hook this up asap but can't find a density stick for Nannochloropsis Phytoplankton
is there another way to make my own diy density stick or to know approx the phyto density? http://i458.photobucket.com/albums/q...cture160-2.jpg http://i458.photobucket.com/albums/q...Picture157.jpg http://i458.photobucket.com/albums/q...Picture156.jpg http://i458.photobucket.com/albums/q...Picture155.jpg http://i458.photobucket.com/albums/q...Picture153.jpg |
density stick
i bought my density stick at florida aqua farms-but if you want to make one -get a thick piece of plastic-and mark the graduations 3/8 each.bend the end of it over 1 inch and mark a circle on the end-dip it in your culture -and when the circle disappears-you have the reading on the side of the stick

I looked at the density stick from FAF and it looks complicated to duplicate thanks for the advice
I'm looking to buy from someone that accept's paypal but not hooked up to a major credit card I tried FAF but they require a visa atleast that's what my brother in law said I tried the 2 stores mentioned earlier in the post but they either don't sell it or are sold out at the moment |
Thanks everyone, I'm ordering the density stick, phyto and culture manual tonight
|
Out of curiosity, what phyto are you getting? I wanted to get Iso or tetra, but I'm not going to bother with an order just for them. I already have a culture of Nanno going.
Would you be interested in swapping cultures? |
Who did you end up ordering from?
Cheers, Vic |
I decided to order from reef crew for now, but will probably order a herpacticoid from homegrown to culture in the near future something for a mandarin goby and as a miniature clean up crew
I have 1L of f2 fertilizer already but when I get more f2 I'll be looking for another 1 L soon from canada any suggestion's from where in canada? Tetra and iso sound like great phyto I think I will culture Nannochloropsis phyto for now but would like to get into something that is high in DPH in the near future which I think is t-iso |
Did you end up getting the culture density stick?
Reef Crew has them: http://reefcrew.com/index.php?page=s...mart&Itemid=30 I think I'll order the Iso from them sometime when I get my Phyto culturing station all sorted out. edit. It's unavailable. ugh, read the whole page before posting stoopid. Phyto, that's a nice culturing station - looks like those are glass bottles - where'd you get them? |
They look exactally like the plastic ARM calcium reactor media containers to me.
|
I got the plastic 1G from walmart for $4 each and the density stick from F.A.F along with the culture
I ended up using a friends visa to order still waiting for it to arrive shortly |
