Ever had an encrusting monti take over?
Anybody have any suggestions what I should do here? Looks like my encrusting monti is gonna take over this acro, and it's quickly spreading all over the place. The acro has already started to recede at it's base. I don't want to try to move the acro since it looks like it'll just crumble if I try to break it off. Anybody ever had this problem?

Problem is seeing the pics. Maybe use the photo gallery
|
odd...i can see the 2nd pic, but none of the others.
i think i am having hte smae problem as you. i am probably going to try and kalk paste the monti to death! i cant think of anything else, the rock the sps are on is large and cumbersome, any attempt for eradication will need to be made in tank only. |
hahahha...now i cant see any of the pictures
|
wtf!
now i can see them all! hey mason, that sure is a nice acro, *hint hint nudge nudge* the only problem i see with the kalk paste method is that, unless you get the whole colony, it will probably grow back. and probably sooner than later. |
hey, try pressing "back" and then "forward" on your browser, it may magically make the pics appear! imagestation is fricken weird!
|
nope, still don't see them
|
yeah, theyre gone again.

lots of trouble to see pics. I saw them earlier by copying the properties, but that didn't cache them. As for the coral, looks like digitata encroaching on an acro. My choice is nuke the montipora

I wish you luck with your encrusting thingy......
|
ok aparently some of you have a hard time seeing .orig files so I will massage them for you.

Wouldnt you risk nuking the acro at the same time? Nice coral, I'd just be nervous. What about breaking the colony off?
|
Darn Imagestation! Same thing for me. First time going into the thread the pics won't come up. I push "back" and go in again and there they are.
Thanks Steve for uploading them onto your webspace! So nuking huh? Never thought of that. I think I'd have to be VERY careful around the acro/monti border since they're right up against each other, but I think I might try it. As far as breaking the acro off, I'm afraid that I would destroy the colony if I tried to do so. It's grown right onto the rock without a real "base". Also, even if I got the acro off it still doesn't solve the problem of this massive encrusting monti which will continue to spread at an alarming rate. Thanks again everyone  |
honestly, i didnt do anything special to see the orig pics...
it was there, then it wasnt , then they all were there, then they werent... mighty peculiar. anywho... |
from what I have found Monti is a weak coral and in my tank it was never able to take over any other coral. Having said that, I would watch it closely and see which coral actually is winning. If your monti behaves like mine used to, it will grow around the base of the acro without hurting the acro and you would have a way cool chunk of encrusted rock with a acro growing out of it.
