North shore coral trading

I've got a 2 year old very large tank with a lot of softie corals that are starting to get out of control and I would like to trade with other members. Maybe get together some weekend and see what we have to offer each other. I'm also thinking of doing a bulk coral buy in a few months, I think my tank is getting quite stable.

I've got softies comin' out the wahoo but what'd you got? I might add something to my nano.

Also, I'm a North Shore guy as well. Feel free to contact me in the future for trades once some of my stuff has grown out. Cheers!

Hey guys - unfortunatly i have nothing to trade yet as i am in the process of stocking my tank after being out of the game for a couple of years. If you have anything you might want to sell please feel free to give me a pm.

Cheers
Rich

I'm in Deep Cove and have extra stuff but none of it is mounted.

In the north shore as well, but my tank is only 2 months old :-)

I've been trying to look up how long before I can add coral's, but can't find a definitive answer. Should we wait 6 months until our tank is somewhat established before we get our first?

We've been going really slow- 55 gallon tank, we have 5 reef hermits and one cleaner shrimp right now. Hopefully in a couple weeks we can look at getting a fish :-)

IMO, add when you think it's safe to add them. If you used uncured LR, it'll take a little longer. If your tank seems stable, it's probably OK to start adding them slowly. Start with the cheap easy corals (I can give you some mushrooms probably).

I went really slow with my first tank using uncured live rock from a store following the usual process. Never really had any issues. The new 20G tank I have put together has wicked live rock from an existing tank and stablized really quick. I have been able to move frags over to it from my other tank and adding new ones as well at, admittedly, a rather fast pace and other than a short bout of HA when it first started, everything is happy as a clam (Even the hitchhiker clams are happy... no Tridacnas yet though). Even my pair of cleaner shrimp are mating.

I can give you some xenia, kenya tree and anthelia free. However, I am not in NV though.

Hiya,

Raf and I are in North Van (Upper Lonsdale). My tank is quite full, I could probably find something to frag! You are welcome to stop by and see the tank, chit chat, and get a frag or two. :)

Seems like there are a few people with extra corals to trade and others who are looking to buy.

Things that I consider a nuisance may be wanted by someone else. I can't take very good pictures of my tank and it is very difficult to describe things like the colours of zoas. So trades are very difficult to complete without seeing the frags.

I don't mind fragging things on the spot and have lots of rubble so things could be mounted immediately. Maybe we can do a mini tank tour all in one afternoon and see what everyone has to trade. If we head from west to east and end up here in Deep Cove as the last stop, I am close to the Raven Pub. There was a thread quite a while ago about people on the North Shore trying to get together at a pub to chat like the Reef Network dinners out in Surrey.

ScubaSteve 01-06-2010 07:12 AM

I agree! I'm in. I say we start the North Shore Reef Network!

manaf 01-06-2010 07:16 AM

awh all u guys are soo far haha

SeaHorse_Fanatic 01-06-2010 07:32 AM

I'm in Burnaby but close to the highway so North Van is not that far away:biggrin: Can anyone join or is this geographically restricted?

ScubaSteve 01-06-2010 07:37 AM

Ummmm.... no Surrey fol... Just Kidding! Here come the hate mail...

Really, we should do a reef network for people over this side. Trips to Surrey and Abby take forever from this neck of the woods. It's like an hour without traffic!

End of January? Anyone interested?

Count me In !!!

I give my vote for the North Shore Reef Network ! Awesome idea Steve. I guess after a while one of us could collect all of the names from the replys to this post & contact everyone via E-Mail... Schedule a lil' get together... & as someone suggested, a tour of each other's tanks. Does anyone think we could get together sooner than the end of Jan? I'd certianly be interested in having this happen sooner than later.

Scott.

I am set to depart on an unknown date soon, so the sooner we meet the better for me. Raf & I have 4 tanks up so people are welcome to stop here and check them out. Or if we just do a get together meet that's cool too. :)

Griffin 01-06-2010 04:34 PM

Count me in for sure :)

eternitybc 01-06-2010 04:56 PM

The 2 of us would really love to take part, especially for the tank tour- but as I mentioned, ours is only a few weeks old, so unless you want to coo over our skunk shrimp, we'll just view others if that's ok :-)

PM'd for offer of coral..

ScubaSteve 01-06-2010 05:16 PM

Ok, I'll spearhead this one. Look in the threads for North Shore Reef Network and sign up. I'll PM you guys and start organizing.

TheKid 01-06-2010 07:42 PM
