Red Coral in Lethbridge?

Red Coral has been approached about the possibility of a Red Coral Franchise Store opening in Lethbridge. My Questions Are..

1) Can Lethbridge support another Saltwater only store??

2) What do you want to see in a Lethbridge Store???

3) Could an effective and well run store cover Medicine Hat???

Please no slamming of other stores in Lethbridge I am hoping to get positive input about what hobbyists want in the Lethbridge and surrounding area.

You should set one up here in Kelowna as well!!!!!

A Lethbridge store might be closer for me to drive to!! Oh wait, nevermind :-) Actually, how about openning one up next door to me? er.. nevermind that too..

Glad to see you are thinking about expanding. Nothing wrong with a little healthy competition :-) Just make sure you get the right people to run it.

i would love to see a red coral here!! Lately there has been alot of sw stores open up, 4 existing and 1 more on the way. I don't think theres enough market for a 6th without a couple of the others folding under. without a doubt i think RC would over-take a few of the places that have been barely skimping by!! even with a strong name like red coral its all about who's running the show!!

Good news! A Red Coral in Lethbridge would be great as it is only 90 minutes from Medicine Hat vs. Calgary at near 3 hours. Of course one in Medicine Hat (where there is only one local store monopolistically doing sw) would be even better and ultimately the best and most convenient solution for us here in the Hat area.

Maybe a Lethbridge store could have specials or even a discount club for reefers from the Hat. Certainly any ingenuity from a Lethbridge location would help increase the number of Hatters keeping sw.

I agree totally.

I have already explained that a strong commitment would be needed to operate in an already competitive market.
We at Red Coral strive to prioritize our emphasis on these four areas in order of this hobby approach.

1) livestock (ultimately our advice is paramount in this area)

2) customers (return business is our mainstay in the very competitive Calgary market)

3) Vendors (cultivating the best market to bring the best product in)

4) Red Coral ( ensuring the above three you create a healthy business)

I think a new store would be great. It will create some more exposure to the hobby in Lethbridge and Medicine Hat and will be great for all involved. The more people we get into the hobby the better. I think both cities are finally getting there first real look at SW and the response has been great.

If it's in Medicine hat I'll work for fish on my days off (cheap labour) I work 8 on 6 off and always looking for something to do on my time off.

The Grizz 12-31-2009 11:50 PM

Kevin forget Lethbride/Med Hat Kalowna and all those other cities. RED DEER need's you and if I didn't have a company of my own to run I would jump in to run it. I have an empty 40 x 40 heated/power shop here at my acreage you could set up in. LOL.

wayner 01-01-2010 02:02 PM

I'll run the one in the South end of the City when I retire in a few years.

Red Coral in Lethbridge is a great idea. Our one store in Medicine Hat is hit and miss, more miss than anything. It is not a dedicated fish store and during the summer when pond season is in, the SW fish and corals go away to almost nothing. Even if there are fewer sales in the summer, the LFS still has to take care of thier customers of they may not be back. I've spent thousands at J&L over the last year and while I do love thier service, I would still like the option of being able to shop locally. Lethbridge is close enough that a person can go there without having to make a day trip out of it. With the new stores popping up in Lethbridge things are getting better but a Red Coral store would be the icing on the cake. I would personally prefer a new one in Medicine Hat but the interest hasn't grown to the point where it could support another store right now, Lethbridge is definitely the next best thing!

Yes thanks for the positive comment I am hoping to not only add to these two markets but create a level of service that would force all LFS's in these areas to provide a better atmosphere thus generating a stronger SW demand.

Noted for the Lethbridge franchisers.

As I have said before I would love to come to Red Deer but have not come up with a strong management RD crew.

As I have said the franchise interest has been generated from Lethbridge. This does not mean the Lethbridge store cannot set up deliveries, swap meets, etc in Medicine Hat. I will work with them on that.

therealshark 01-04-2010 05:11 AM

i would definately like to see a red coral in lethbridge. then i could get my SPS fix on a regular basis. the higher end products (corals and hardware)that we are not used to seeing around here would be a plus also.

chris88 04-13-2010 10:34 PM

Its all about Fort McMurray. 100,000 people with money to spend and a booming population with no where to shop. There is no competition, and no where else close by to shop. It is insain that there isnt a quality salt water store up here. Everyone up here including myself orders online.

Snufflupagus 04-14-2010 03:49 AM

Don't forget Red Deer!!! I think we are just like Lethbridge, in population and interest. With no real dealer with salt water in Red Deer, I think it would open the door to a wide range of interested people. Just a thing to think about.

Part of me agrees. When I was up there only one shop handled anything saltwater. However, between lease rates that would kill a small store and employees who want around $15 to arrive regularly (more if you expect anything approaching a feeble attempt at actual work) I doubt that a saltwater shop up there could be competitive with big city and online prices.

cuz 04-18-2010 02:27 PM

focus people!! Lethbridge first then you guys can barter for the 3rd store!!lol

cchomistek 04-18-2010 04:12 PM

Lethbridge Store

I agree lets get back on topic... Can't wait for this store to open up here in Lethbridge!!

therealshark 04-25-2010 03:47 AM

i also cant wait for this store to open. there is a few things i need soon (that the local stores can not get or care to look into) and i dont want to make the drive to calgary right now.
is there a rough date for this store to open? i have heard rumours of a date to open, but would like to hear it from either the people opening it or from kevin. just so we can look forward to this.

I agree ... its kinda funny how much of a "soap opera" of rumours there are floating around as to who, when, where?
I'm just as curious to find how close RC is to opening down here!!

The who and where will be revealed as we progress to an opening date.

The when will be also answered once a lease is signed at a selected location.
We are taking steps to implement this store in Lethbridge but it is taking time and we will continue working on it over the summer. This thread was to inquire as to its feasibility and we have determined with a location in Lethbridge with close ties to servicing Medicine Hat is very viable.
Thank you for your patience.
Kevin
