Aiptasia in my tank - How to get rid of it?
I just noticed one of these guys hitchhiked onto a frag I recently purchased. I heard that they cause issues in reef tanks with fish.
My problem is I can't seem to grab the thing because it shrinks in between a crevis in the rock before I can attempt to grab it. It also isn't very big. Any tips/ideas on capturing it? It is on the left of the rock..small lil fella. Attachment 5432 |
They are a pain as they multiply.:twised:
Inject with kalk paste or lemon juice. That or Peppermint shrimp, file fish will eat them. |
Your choice:
1. Paste...works when you can hit them... 2. Berghi...works but you have to have 3/ gallon 3. Butterfly fish....maybe works...doesn't have a long shelf life 4. Shrimp......works when you have 1/ 5gal... 5. Hack/slice and dice...works if you want more of them 6. Take you frag out of the tank and carefully apply hot water to the aiptasia |
I used four Peppermint shrimps to get rid of the Aiptasia in my tank which I had hundreds of them, which came from LR that I pick up from a tank shut down.

I have found that a syringe and sharp needle with lemon juice works well. Stab it into the crevice right around the center of the little bugger is and give it a couple of squirts. 100% success rate for me so far but maybe I'm just lucky.

needle

:laluot_26: Worked every time for me AND I didn't have to manually inject/scrape/remove etc. said aiptasia. |
Have 2 shrimp in my overflow and they are cleaning the problem up nicely...once they are done they will be move to the main display area to be preventative maintenance.

hey i had a rock with quite a few on it and i injected it with calcium
A)calcium will be fine in your tank (unlike sometimes with lemon juice) B) a straight shot of calcium just straight up ODs the little guys and they never come back. |
if i remember correctly morinville is close to edmonton? i had to get shots for the kitten and just asked them to give me an extra needle for the tank, G&E pharmacy in edmonton carries that sort of stuff they are on argyll i believe, but 1 shot of boiling water each and they're history

when i used to worry about aptasia i used joes juice. you buy it for pretty cheap and just inject it onto the moutn of the aiprasia and it is dead within an hour. just make sure you act fast or they will multiply and grow under rocks and they will be there forever
|
If it's just the one I would just pull the frag and scrape the little sucker off. It's easy as that.

Thanks for the tips everyone!
I injected it with boiling water and it worked perfect! |
