Euro Reef - RS model
Anyone have a Euro reef skimmer that they are running?
I bought one used and I can’t seem to get it going… May need to have a disccusion to find out what I am doing wrong. Thanks |
Whatcha mean "cant get it going"....the pump wont start or its not skimming properly?
|
I run a RS180, what kind of problem are you having?
|
pump (RS 6000) runs for 3-5 mins and stops...
any thoughts? Thanks |
I would check the plugin and cord for bad connections. If that isn't it, I am thinking it is a bad pump.
Is this a new unit, if so, I would get it exchanged under warranty. |
I bought it used and I am thinking bad pump as well - I will call euro reef on Monday to ask some questions...
what is a good replacement pump? |
did u try cleaning the pump?
|
Ya, try letting the pump soak in white vinegar for a few hours, then re-try.
|
When I got the pump it was in very dirty condition. The first thing I did was clean it inside and out - she is very clean :)
if it is a connection thing - I think it is internal because after it runs for 3 mins it stops - this leads me to believe that something is disconnecting once the pump heats up. Once the pump cools off it starts again... what do you guys think? |
I use a sedra 1200 on my 250
|
Is that a Sedra 1200 or 12000?
Thanks |
This is super strange, this pump ran without a hiccup for a year. I unplugged it, packed it in its original box and sent it.
|
It could be a cold solder joint very common in solder joints that were soldered VAI wave soldering or a person with a shaky hand. It can also be in the plug-in head if the wire has broken it will heat up and the insulation will exspand and break the conection I've seen this a few times. This is why you are suppose to unplug electrical items by the plug-in head.

the wire seems to be ok - I would have to agree that it might be a solder joint internal...
the only catch is the entire pump is internally inclosed in a plastic coating (wil not be able to reach solder joints) not sure what to do from here???? where can you get the exact same pump from? the "GX 6000" does 6000 L/min which is about 1600 GPH... that would equate to a Sidra 20000 (approx) or do I try and find the same pump? |
sorry 12000
|
So the best I can come up with for a replacement pump is a SIDRA 20000
The GX 6000 does 6000 L/M = 1600 G/H for the price (I want to keep it as low as possible) - The Sidra 20000 does 2000 G/H, I don't want to add heat to my system as well... That is the best I can come up with - any thoughts or ideas? is there a place I can get a GX 6000 locally (Edmonton, Calgary or even Canada?) Please help if you have ideas... Thanks guys! |
A sedra 6000 is only 600gph. You can try a sedra 7000. Which model is it you have?
|
I don't have a SEDRA - never did...
I had a GX 6000 and it did 1600 gph Need a pump that will match that! The best I can come up with is the Sedra model 20000 (pumps 2000 GPH) looking for experienced opinions PLEASE! |
You can always order a new pump from EuroReef
|
Could just be the impeller, seen a few pumps with similar issues solved with a new impeller assembly.

ZAP - Thank God I have no hair because it would have been standing on end... The pump is shorted and that is that :( New one will be on of the following 3: Sedra 20000 Mag-Drive 1800 Euro Reef GX 6000 (like the original one that zapped me) any recommendations from the top 3? I don't want to add heat to the system... |
