MMAX's 100gal
This tank's been about a year in the works. Had my 20gal for a little less than 2 years and it's been trouble free. This summer my wife and I had a new addition to the family, our first daughter and the rest of the summer and fall consisted of digging a 2000gal pond/waterfall in my backyard. Being December I thought it was time to get this project started again. The tank was built last January by a company who shall remain nameless. The workmanship was good but that was the only good thing about the experience (BTW it wasn't a Canreef sponsor who built it). Rimless 100 gallon constructed out of half inch glass 48" X 22" X 22", Eurobraced with an internal overflow. Two 2.5" drains and two 1.75" returns.
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...5/CIMG2699.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...5/CIMG2727.jpg Built the stand, painted and laid down half inch styrofoam. http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...5/CIMG2723.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...5/CIMG2724.jpg The sump is my old 55gal I used to use for FW, baffles were installed by Red Coral. I was originally planning to put the sump under the tank inside the stand but there was hardly any room for maintenance. I'm going to construct a sump/control room in the space under my stairs and plumb the tank through the wall. http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...5/CIMG2726.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...5/CIMG2725.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...5/CIMG2697.jpg Other parts consist of an Aqua-Medic skimmer and an Oceanrunner 3500 return pump. More pics to follow as I continue with build... |
Ah....the pm makes sense to me now:lol: looking like a good start

A package arrived from UPS yesterday. Ordered a Sunlight Supply 8 bulb Tek light from J & L. Came in 3 days, would have been here in 2 but there was a 1 day delay due to some crappy weather. Everything arrived in one piece but I'm missing one V-hanger. Hopefully they'll send me another one.
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank001.jpg Went to Red Coral and discussed with Kevin my bulb set-up for what I'm planning on doing (softie / LPS, clams and possibly a few SPS). His suggestion was... Blue Wave Fiji Purple Coral Life 10,000K New Generation 15,000K New Generation 15,000K Coral Life 10,000K Fiji Purple Blue Wave http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank003.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...fTank002-1.jpg Just set the fixture on top to see the light but I'm probably going to hang it if I can find some celing joists to drill into. |
I had no idea how good this light was so I put it over my 20 gal...WOW!
With Coralife dual strip PC http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...5/CIMG2734.jpg With T5s http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...fTank010-1.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank009.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank006.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...fTank008-1.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...fTank007-2.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...fTank005-1.jpg I can see myself getting a 4 lamp Tek for this little tank. |
Sweet set-up. Can't wait to see it up & running.

Go to Alberta Aquatica under "Ponds". I documented the whole thing there. Did a lot of work on it but there's still a lot to do. |
A few plumbing pictures. It's almost ready for water, I just need to pick up a RO/DI unit.
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...5/CIMG2970.jpg Thinking about raising my sump up. I'll build a 2 X 4 frame and bring it up 2.5" http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...5/CIMG2973.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...5/CIMG2974.jpg One more hole through the wall and I'll almost have it done. http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...5/CIMG2976.jpg |
Looking good
|
You work fast....lol from what I seen last night looks great man. I want to see it when your done looking forward to it.
|
Haven't updated for a while, here's a few pics...
RO/DI Unit http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank014.jpg Started filling tank about 11AM http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank015.jpg About 2PM http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...fTank017-1.jpg 10 hours later, what a damn slow process. Threw in a power head to keep things stirred up. http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank018.jpg Installed light hanging brackets. http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank019.jpg |
Looks good keep them pic coming...
|
Looks Great!
|
And a few more pics...
Had the wife filling up jugs while I was at work http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank021.jpg Hung my lights http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank020.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank022.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...fTank023-1.jpg |
She's finally up and running. Found one small leak on my drain which is a real p*** off cause I was super careful putting everything together. Tried to seal it with silicone last night but I didn't get it. Any help on how to seal it would be appreciated. Like I said, it's a real slow drip but I'd like a leak free system. Anyway, a few more pics...

Wow! What a gorgeous setup. It looks so good.

looking reat ,however sorry to bust your bubble the check valve works alot better when its in the vertical flow. the gravity of the water will close it you may get a neg result that way.

I like the setup though. |
Don't matter if it works or not although I really don't think I'll have a problem with the way I have it. There's plenty of room in the sump if it ever fails.
|
hey where's all the update shots, come on man. nothing new yet:biggrin:
|
Just got my computer back after it crashed. As of now the tank's aquascaped and it's started it's cycle. I'll have some new pics soon.
|
A few pics, added the rest of the rock and sugar sand and aquascaped.
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank032.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank037.jpg Wanted to go with a single mound in the center to maximize swimming space, I plan on getting a smaller tang (Yellow or Scopas) eventually. Right now the tank is cycling and getting a bit or diatom growth on some of the rocks. http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank034.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank035.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank036.jpg Under actinics http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank033.jpg I've heard fiji purple bulbs are algae magnets although they really make the colors pop. Should I swap out one of them for something else? |
Looking good man....
|
Hey man, How are you liking the new lights? and you must have some new pics, any fish in that thing yet.
|
Lights are good, I changed out the fiji purples for super blues. No fish yet, 7 snails, 1 hermit and a couple of corals from my 20gal. You'll have to come and check it out one of these days.
|
So after adding my 6 new snails on Sunday, tested my water again today. Ammonia spike (0.2ppm). Hopefully this kick started my cycle because it never really happened earlier. Decided to come up with a possible stocking list, comments, suggestions, good or bad...
Kole tang Green or yellow coral goby Sand sifter goby (will come out of my 20gal if I can catch him) 2 Zebra dartfish Royal or blackcap gramma Blue forktail Some type of fairy wrasse My 2 ocellaris clowns will stay in my 20gal, the female is quite aggressive and hopefully they'll breed some day. As for inverts... Shrimp of some kind (skunk cleaner, fire, peppermint or coral banded) Porcelain and pom pom crabs A few more snails for clean up Crocea or maxima clam My rock had loads of copopods, feather dusters and brittle stars so I'm covered there. After some thought, the set-up will be SPS dominated with a few LPS/softies thrown in. |
A few new pics...

Haven't updated for quite some time. Started dosing ProdiBio May 7/11 so I want to document my coral growth before and after. The only thing I've done before I started ProdiBio was changed from I.O. salt to H2Ocean in the new year and began regular 20 gal water changes every 2 weeks.
This ia a frag of blue polyped birdsnest I got 1 year ago. The growth on this piece has been amazing since changing salt. Makes me mad that for the life of me, I can't get a good pic of it. Before (May 19/10) http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank063.jpg Now http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank116.jpg A few pics of some pieces I have now Finger Stag, Frost Polyp, Blue & Rose Milli http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank144.jpg Orange Monti & Neon Green Candy Cane http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank143.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank142.jpg Acroporas Florida, Tenuis & Formosa (Jan/11) http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank072.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank094.jpg Picked up this guy 2 months ago from Derek(Trocar61) http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank111.jpg And a few random pics, 1st two are a couple of top-down shots http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank149.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank148.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank150.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank151.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eefTank105.jpg Picked up a male blue throated trigger from Rick(Global Designs) yesterday. I'll get a shot of him when he comes out of hiding. |
Seems to be settling in nicely although someone took a piece out of his tail last night.
