Your tank is only 11 months old?? Did you transfer it from another tank? Your corals look older than that! Please tell me that's more than 11 months growth, or I'm tossing in the towel!! Very nice Greg!

JOEL 12-01-2009 02:45 AM

Looks great Greg

If you read his thread on RC its from his last tank he just transfered over to the 400. Then added more pieces.

Oh good. I'm relieved.

Ryan 12-01-2009 03:00 AM

Actually its pretty cool as the other tank was getting too small and pieces were starting to fuse together. I remember him posting pictures of one coral with a branch of another coral connecting the 2 branches.

don.ald 12-01-2009 03:07 AM

Ugh! I need to stop opening any threads started by "Snappy", or with the words, "Coralmaster" in them..

I'm trying to save up for a new tank and you're not helping

ksalt 12-01-2009 01:48 PM

Stunning Greg!

I remember reading in you RC thread you were thinking of removing the T5 Tek fixtures and replace with mh.. did you make this change or any other to your lighting? if you haven't can you do a comparison picture again over the stylophora please? just curious.

Thanks for sharing!

Ian 12-01-2009 02:16 PM

Why do I do this to myself all these threads do is spend large sums of my money and increase my feelings of ineptitude.
very nice!

Thanks very much. I still have the T5's in the back half of the display and the stylo you are talking about has pretty much evened out it's colour so I guess it just reacted to the T5's more slowly than the MH. Thanks for looking.

I still often feel that way myself when I see other peoples reefs. I guess the grass is always greener on the other side, or the corals are always brigher in the other tank.

Hard to believe I've had that little yellow clown goby for 3 years
He is very cute flitting around from one coral to the next. (he's sitting on that colony of M.confusa)

They generally have good color when I ship them but there are always variables to the equation depending on how long I have to get ready for an order, what I have pre-cut in stock, where from the colony the frags were cut, etc, but that said most people seem pretty pleased with the frags when they get them.

I'm going really slow. But your photos are really tempting me. I'm thinking I'll get you an order after Christmas

Sure whenever you're ready:wink:

Myka 12-10-2009 01:56 AM

Greg, could you give some info on your tank like lighting, dosing, parameters, etc. It is a very respectable tank, and I would like to compare to mine. :)

lighting is a mix of MH & T5:
5x 250 w DE MH 14K, 2x 150 w DE MH 20K, 12x 54 w T5 mixed bulbs.
main parameters are as follows:
ca- 425 - 440
alk- 8.5 - 9
mag- 1400
ph- 8.1 in AM- 8.5 PM at lights out
temp- 78 - 81
sg- 1.026

I dose Randy's 2 part recipe #2

Flow turn over rate is approx 24,500 GPH or about 61 times an hour.

Myka 12-11-2009 12:17 AM

Thanks Greg! You sure have a lot of light on that tank - 7 bulbs to replace? Ouch, that's gotta hurt! You have great colors, and you don't use anything fancy. Do you use Salifert for your alkalinity test?

I use Elos for alk & salifert for ca & mg. If you count the T5's, which I do, it's 19 bulbs to replace, yikes.
