Aquarium safe silicone?
Hi,
I have to re seal a bit in my tank and have read that it is important the silicone is aquarium safe. Is this true? And if so where can I get some aquarium safe black silicone? Palmer |

I looked at their site and I didn't see anything aquarium specifc. Which product are you recommending?

They Stock the All-Glass Sealant.

Great thanks!

As long as it is 100% silicone it is OK just make sure there are no additives

Home Hardware sells thier store brand silicone which has "Aquarium Safe" written in bold letters right on the label.

If you have a Rona there they carry aquarium safe silicone.

GE door and window #1 is 100% silicone and aquarium safe. Available pretty much anywhere and runs for about $4 per tube.

make sure it doesn't say "mildew resistant" on it!!

Are you just redoing the large seams or the structural inner seams?
If it's all the seams, I'd use a stronger product - GE RTV108 is what was recommended to me. You probably won't find it at HD or a local hardware store, but Acklands-Grainger should have it (there are 5 locations in Calgary). |
Thanks for the info everyone.
I am only re attaching a black insert that is fixed to the back wall inside the tank (and creating a seal between it and the overflow) so I think regular silicone should be fine. Palmer |
I used Rona brand it's aquarium safe and only 5 bucks a tube
