working on something right now, princess auto sells rare earth magnets for 5 bucks a pack. i think you just have to cure them in epoxy or something i have not figured out the full details as of yet.

banditpowdercoat 10-12-2009 08:39 PM

Hmm Im heading to PA this week. I know Powdercoat is good under water :D Wonder how PC will stick? Time will tell :D

hillegom 10-12-2009 08:47 PM

I have also heard of what Kryptic is talking about. I think you put epoxy into a bottle cap and then the magnet and then more 2 part epoxy. I have not tried this yet, but will. You would have to wait for the first application of epoxy to at least harden a little.

Sebae again 10-12-2009 10:00 PM

J and L is were I got mine for my frag racks.

bigblack 10-13-2009 12:03 AM

i'm looking at finding out how to cure the magnets i'm assuming that leaching or rusting would occur if we just use them bare in the tank?

banditpowdercoat 10-13-2009 12:05 AM

You cant "cure" them. You encase them in something reef safe.

fortyfathoms.net has fragmags. Just go to the forum and look under dry goods section.

Glennrf38 10-13-2009 03:16 AM

I read a post somewhere. I can't find it now.
They just took the rare earth magnets, poured some epoxy in a..... I think it was a pop bottle bottom or a film canister..... whatever I guess that will fit what you need and once the 1/4" bottom layer is poured, place the magnets in and cover completely with more epoxy. I'll try an find the link.

Glennrf38 10-13-2009 03:21 AM

intarsiabox 10-17-2009 02:55 AM

You could just buy some liquid latex from a hobby store and put a few coats on any magnet that works for you.

new but handy 10-18-2009 02:00 AM

The problem is finding magnets that are big enough. I have thick glass so any mags strong enough are $$$$$$$. I might as well buy sure-grips and modify them. If anyone finds anything please let me know

Hard Drive Magnets

At work when we decommission servers we physically disassemble the hard drives for security. This leaves us with a nice collection of rare earth magnets that will break finger bones if your not careful. The Magnets are larger than the buttons above and would require they be cut to size but I'm willing to offer a couple to someone in the lower mainland if they are sincere in trying to make something with them.

Are they set in flux collectors?

For the most part they are mounted on steel brackets held in place with spot welds.

Yikes! I wouldn't be trying that photo with my Great White magnets... Even after using them for 3 years now, they still scare me.

The brackets are actually flux collectors, cutting in half or removing the magnets will reduce the strength substantially.

A flux collector is a simple device, it takes the power of the magnet on one side and dumps it to the other side almost doubling the power.

Are those sorta like a flux capacitor that generates the 1.21 "gigawatts" of electricity needed for time travel?
