Cool Pics Alan!

Are sailfin blennies also called Algae blennies?
Any Idea?

Buccaneer 08-18-2003 05:54 AM

Hey Jonathon ... Sailfin / Algae / Lawnmower Blennie ... all the same fish

Cheers

Looks great Alan.

Nice shots Alan ... wish I could get macros like that

Cheers

Alan, you are very good with that camera. The carpet looks great.

There is also some type of black blenny called a sailfin. It looks something like a bicolour. AI had one a little while back.

Great Shots!! Love the Carpet

Hi Allen;

great shots,

may I ask what camera you have been using and if you have used any special settings when you shoot your fish?

Thanks

AJ_77 08-18-2003 07:32 PM

Appreciate all the kind comments - . Being able to share some of what's going on in there is a very cool thing. (And making the careful and measured decision to get that S. haddoni from Delphinus is a high point for sure.)

Trevor - the camera is a Kodak DC280 (2.0 MP) so nothing special, but I use a 7x and/or 10x diopter for closeups. Typically set for auto-white balance (or fluorescent), auto-ISO. No flash, and exposure set to -.5 to avoid washout. No flash, (the camera flash is kind of lame) and I rest the camera right against the glass for the macro shots. It's been real fun learning to make decent shots with what I thought was a piece of junk.

Cheers,

WOW you are kidding me you took those with a Kodak!?!?!

I can't belive it. I have access to almost every camera under the sun and I just can not get good shots of my tank! I am guessing that you have just an auto focus on your camera?

Well I will have to try again, I have a Canon G5 at home right now, mabie by problem is that I just need to figure out what all those buttons do!

AJ_77 08-18-2003 09:00 PM

Just read about the G5 at dpreview.com - quite the unit! If you want, we can trade for a little while...

If you leave all the defaults, and pick macro mode, and find a way to steady that bad boy, I think you will find some amazing photos popping up. Of course, you'll need to practise by the hundred or so...

Check out "gregr" in the Photography forum at reefcentral, you'll be blown away by his work. I think he likes his G2 a lot, from what I can tell. Look for the Close-ups thread - yikes.

Yup. Right after I buy my 3-million dollar mansion in Pt. Grey. What are the chances? I would say slim to none.

AJ_77 08-20-2003 03:28 PM

  Don't you have some room to the right of the fireplace, maybe for a 54g corner tank?

That would work for a species tank!
