45 G Bedroom tank ..... Pics April 28

Well since i moved i have moved my fw fish into a 75 and used the 45 as a reef tank. it is sumpless and has a koralia 3 and 2 for flow and a AC HOB 70 refuge. i am using an eshopps 75 HOB skimmer thats doing great and 2 2x54 W glow units for lighting. corallife 2x9W CF light for fuge. going thru a mini cycle right now so i will add pics later.

Live stock right now is 2 true perks, 1 potters angel, 3 Hawaiian Flame Wrasse

ElGuappo 09-25-2009 02:31 AM

Any suggestions on if there is room for another fish or 2? suggestions? mostlikely going with a 2 spot candy hogfish.

ElGuappo 10-18-2009 08:52 PM

Well due and ich boutbreak i have torn down this tank and wil be restarting it. the only fish i have to go back in are my true perks. any ideas on other fish? thinking a pygmy angel of some type. and not sure from there

ANY SUGGESTIONS???

Nebthet 10-19-2009 04:16 AM

I would suggest to go with a candy hogfish, those are nice and yellow, perhaps one of the following:
Yellow stripped cardinal fish.
black cardinal
3 stripped damsel
orchid dottyback - which is a nice bright purple
Clown fairy wrasse
berlett's or dispair anthias

I guess it all depends on your personal preference and if you will set up as a reef or FOWLR.

ElGuappo 10-19-2009 05:23 AM

This will be a reef tank but still unsure about inverts tho.

Eyford01 10-19-2009 05:25 AM

check this out, stocking list for fish up to 30g so of course there are more than this that you could add in your larger tank but its a fairly decent list, hopefully it can give you some ideas

http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/inde...howtopic=74703

Eyford01 10-19-2009 05:28 AM

ooh and for inverts maybe consider a pom pom crab? i know people lose them in bigger tanks since they are shy but i have 1 in my 55g and i see him every couple of days hiding in the rocks and man is he ever COOL

ElGuappo 10-19-2009 05:48 AM

I already have the nano list bookmarked, thanks tho. and what i am really looking for is a fish that will not outgrow the tank but is still fairly large. thus the list doesnt work.

i already have a tank devoted to pompoms and sexy shrimp. with a goby or 2. well when they stay in the tank long enough to count. my former 10g contest tank is still kicking around. currently still 2 pompoms (pair) 3 sexy shrimp down to 1 purple fire fish, and 1 pink lined wrasse.

ElGuappo 10-19-2009 06:44 AM

Possible additions ?

ok so i am looking for some fish to go with my 2 true perks (to be removed upon cube setup ) in a 48" 45 Gallon tank here are some fish i may be interested in.

Just looking for stocking options and some veto power on what others feel should not be in this tank. tank will be set up in the nest week then cycle to follow. there is lots of time i am just curious as to what others like and if i have missed something please give me a suggestion. MUST BE REEF SAFE Basically making a 50G reef safe list.

Well i finally got it scaped and now to cycle. will add pics later as i am just leaving for red coral.

Shoud add that i found a few fish to go into this tank when its ready. will be getting 2 female and 1 male hawaiian flame wrasse and a very small yellow eye kole tang.

BlueAbyss 10-23-2009 08:03 PM

How have you found the Roland's Damsel? I've seen them before but wasn't sure how they are with other fishes?

ElGuappo 10-23-2009 11:18 PM

I think red coral had some rollands. not to sure how they are with fish tho.

Got some tank pics now that the silt has settled

The top pic is with 1 fiji purple, 1 Aqua Medic Reef Blue, and 2 kz new gen Coral Light. the bottom 5 are 2 new gen coral light and 2 AM Reef Blue. i will be leaving the fijnij purple in. i think it was far 2 blue with both reef blues.

All the ive rock was dead and in buckets with the exception of one piece to seed. when bone dry it was about 65- 70 lbs. the sand was dead and in a bucket wet and was about 55 lbs. looking for another 10lbs of sand if anyone has any to spare.

JDigital 10-24-2009 02:06 AM

Awesome rockscaping man! Looks like Pygmy Angel territory to me.. haha And wrasses!

ElGuappo 10-24-2009 04:23 AM

YA I put a dp on some hawaiian flame wrasse today. still cant decide on an angel tho. those multicolors at rc are sweet, however blew my load on the wrasse. thinking eibli or coral beauty. maybe a rusty. as far as angels go.

I should add it was mostly intended for inverts. i like to keep thing off the sand as much as possible, so that i have no dead areas in the sand bed. for instance there is more space for my SS star and some nass snails. also lots of different spots for cleaner shrimp to set up shop. since i can only fit 4 x 54 w over this i wanted to get some shelf space closer to the surface. the center collum and the piece on the right both nearly touch the glass. made sure i could get the mag float by before i finalized.

Just lost a potters in my ich issue (the reason this tank is being restarted, it was only 2 monthes old. consited of 2 smaller tanks i transferred into it after i moved). and had an eibli in my rsm (think my arrow crab speared it). both were money.

Just wondering if coming up with a stocking list in advance could be any harder. may have to just stock by impulse shopping.

I will putting 3 hawaiian flame wrasse in for sure and then i am at a loss. i want a pygmy angel either potters, nox, bluefin or half black. after that i am not really to sure. what i am most unsure of is the amount of fish this tank will hold.

i am thinking of 1-3 zebra gobys a neon goby for cleaning, tail spot blenny and lantern bass. what are your thoughts?

JDigital 10-29-2009 01:12 AM

Sounds like a lot to me... 10 in a 45G... 3 of them wrasses, and most likely an angel that will be a mini poop machine... I feel 5 in my 30G is too many (2clowns, 1 Coral Beauty, 1 6line Wrasse, 1 Twinspot hogfish)... minimal inverts 6-7 snails, no crabs, 1 cleaner shrimp..

What was the skimmer again? That might be the difference, as I am running skimmerless right now.

ElGuappo 10-29-2009 04:48 AM

ya thats what i was thinking but its only 7 if i loose the gobies. all angels should be around 4" mature not 6" like some others.

all thats making an appearance for sure at this point are the 3 wrasse. from there definity an angel, then i am not sure. wouldnt mind going small to get the count up one or 2. just looking for some open water swimmers. also considering a signal goby for sandsifting. this is what i mean, narrowing the list down is impossible.

neon goby is a .5G pico fish so i hardly count that in the equasion. and the bass and blenny are smaller than most in the species.

what i am looking for is some good small fish suggestions that are not damses and chromis. thinking ome clown gobies but i have heard they like to eat sps.

skimmer is a ESHOPPS PSK 75H. supposed to be good upto 75. i figure the additional 50% capacity is not bad. since most vendors rate their skimmers too high. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZL2J...layer_embedded

ElGuappo 11-18-2009 09:21 PM

well i added my first fish this week a potters angel. i know its not a good idea adding angels first but i am unsure as what other fish i want at this point. i have added my sps today. and will be adding my 3 flame wrasse on wed of next week. from there i am not sure where i want to go for the last fish. i thik i may be adding my 2 perks so i guess that would be it. any suggestions?

ElGuappo 11-25-2009 10:53 PM

Well it took 2 weeks but finally got my potters angel eating brine.... heres hoping it starts taking mysis.

I added my 2 true percs to this tank last week aswell.

picking up my 3 hawaiian fame wasses tommorrow:mrgreen::mrgreen:

BlueAbyss 11-26-2009 01:55 AM

Glad he's eating, hope everything goes well... I had to look up the Hawaiian Flame wrasses.

Can't wait for pics when everything's settled in

ElGuappo 11-26-2009 07:08 PM

Well my flame wrasse are home and getting dripped in a bucket. will ad pics later.

ElGuappo 11-26-2009 08:25 PM

Well its ony been a day but the flames are doing quite well. my angel was chasing one of the females at first but has since stopped.

no picture can do these fish justice they are just beautiful.

too bad i didnt get them in time for the Red photo contest. although getting a good pic has proved quite difficult.

ElGuappo 12-09-2009 05:35 PM

Still cant get a great pic but heres the best of what i could get today. This is the male.

ElGuappo 12-16-2009 08:28 PM

Hooray...

well my potters angel is finally taking pellets. took 5 weeks and i think its just to spite the other fish, but none the less its eating pellets...

Skimmerking 12-16-2009 08:34 PM

hey man congrats on the potters I would love to have a potters, bi color, and flame in one tank

ElGuappo 12-17-2009 05:51 AM

Spoiled myself today and bought a MP 20 for this tank and have finally found out how to fine tune. these things are great...

Got a 3/4 inch wave happening and wonder what excatally it means as far as flow. took one koralia 3 out to get the mp 20 in and still run one koralia 3 at the other end of the tank.

ElGuappo 01-01-2010 11:53 PM

Took the other koralia 3 out and put my vortec mp 10 in on the other side. this brings the max flow up to 3575 GPH in this tank.

also cleaned the tank glass and tried to take some pics, but the camera battery died. got some but cant download till the battery charges.

ElGuappo 01-02-2010 01:31 AM

A rew random shots and a vid. cant seem to get the female flame wrasse out for a pic.

Well this tank is getting an upgrade and i pick up the tank tonight. crappy thing is that this tank decided to spring a small leak 2 days ago. if thats not bad enough its slowly getting worse. no visable cracks so hoping just the silicon.

what really peaves me off is that my coral are ALL starting to do really well getting great growth, color, and extension. i was going to turn this tank into my invert cornucopia.

So much for a nice slow fish introduction and plenty of time to ensure no spikes happen. may have to transfer the 45 tommorrow. may have a "loaner" tank linned up tho.

ElGuappo 04-29-2010 04:04 AM

first of all no leaks...knock on wood. i had moved my powerhead it it was splashing small amounts of water onto the trim and it was slowly accumulating on the stand.
