WTB: any 18" or 20" light setup - CF or T5HO

Hi,

First post. My gf has a 45gal tall tank with a weak 18" light. I'd like to get her a better light setup.

If you have any light set up for sale that's 18" or 20", please let me know.

Thanks!

Graham

if ur growing any corals u should get a double ended 250w hqi metal halide.light penetrates much deeper and looks nice on that type of tank.just a thought.

That'd be nice, but a bit out of my price range.
There's a new coralife ~96 watt cf at my lfs for $190. I suppose I'm looking for something along these lines.

If your handy you can build your own MH fixtures for a fraction of the cost. Take a look at this LONG thread with plenty of examples.

don't waste your money on CF. for that tank, i wouldn't keep any coral in it

two thumbs up for the MH for it

I would try one of these...other people on here have them and they aren't bad at all.

Fits your price range too.

Make sure if you buy it to switch the bulb to 14k.

I'd almost get the 20k, in my experience his lamps are off. 14k looks closer to a 10k, 20k closer to 14K.

If you are planning on having corals and if you buy compact f lights, you are literally throwing your money away. Once you get into LPS corals or higher you will realize you will need T5HO or better.

I disagree. Certainly corals will do better with better light but I am growing SPS with CF lights.

my mom actually has that same 96w compact on her cube tank.grows softies well but she is limited and color of the 50/50 is so so.im building her a hood that will retain the compacts and add some fiji purples or a double ended hqi.id suggest to find a used electronic ballast and go from there.dont be like me and buy compacts just to toss em aside later and buy HO or halides.

Thanks guys. I ended up buying some lights off a member here. They are the 96watt compacts but a) I got a good deal, b) they're a gift, and c) they're a massive improvement over the 19 watts in her tank before.
