25g Cube by Sean

Well I finally got to transfer my corals that I kept from my 90g breakdown into their new 25g rimless starfire cube. I kept most of my SPS that I've had for a very long time and a mushroom colonie that the 2 mated cinnamon clowns im keeping host. Sorry no close ups atm these pics were taken from my blackberry. I had no losses from the transfer but an aussie deep water acro has browned a bit. I hope to see the color return.

From 90g to 25g Cube

What a beautiful little tank! I wish I would have seen the 90! Are there plans for more fish?

PuffLuv 09-13-2009 07:17 AM

Nice tank! It's cool to see nice size colonies in smaller setups, and the starphire would make them even nicer in person. Did you build the tank yourself? Also, what are you using for lighting and your return pump?

I was thinking maybe some chromies for fun even though their life span seems to be less than a year, but I haven't really had plans to put any more fish in it. Who knows though!

The tank was purchased about a year ago from someone on canreef. Im not sure where they had it built. I did plumb it and make the overflow myself though. For lighting im using a 250w MH with a lumanex reflector and a galaxy ballast. the bulb is a 12k HQI. For return pump im using an Eheim 1262 in sump pump rated at 900gph. I have it running full out and that's the only flow in the tank atm. I have plans to add a couple tunze nano's but I didn't want to buy them before I had stuff in the tank cause I didn't know if they would fit. The only other piece of hardware I have in the tank is a skimmer which is the Tunze Nano DOC 9002. So far I love this skimmer, it's a very hard worker.

Update

Just an update on progress of my cube four months later. I decided about a month ago to redo the aquascape. I added rock to the display and also removed two large SPS. The birdsnest and and unident SPS. The birdsnest had grown to the size of a cantalope and was raging warefare with my other corals.

2 weeks ago I added a zeo reactor, an MP10, and this weekend I finished off the stand!

I love your setup, that tank and stand is very luxurious. Very artsy fartsy which makes it quite a showpiece.

Keep up the great work!

Thanks Carmen. I could only imaging the challenges that come with building a stand for a bow front!

He is a nice piece for sure. He was one of the first things I purchased for my 90g. He has grown about 3/4"-1" since! A type of maxima I think.

Keep up the great work!

I was trying to go for the whole Japanese "bonsai" feel with this cube. I wanted 3 sides viewable and I wanted the huge 20x20 reflector completely hidden. This is about as "artsy" as I get though. Im a blue collar boy!

Thanks for the comments guys!

lobsterboy 02-01-2010 02:19 AM

I love the starfire yes! Just have to make sure you keep sand out of the magnets or it can scratch. I've been fortunate so far.

pascalsimpson 02-24-2010 03:21 AM

Nice tank. Where do you get all your corals?
By the way how much for your tank? lol

kimax 02-24-2010 03:24 PM
