wickedfrags SPS Auction - Details and pics inside! Ends Sept. 10/09 @ at 9pm PST

It's SPS auction time again! Info and guidelines for the auction are the same as the other auctions, but here they are again:

1. Only Canreef members can bid in the auction, and you must have been a Canreef member on or before August 3, 2009.

2. There are no substitutions of frags in the frag pack. The high bidder may add pieces to their frag pack at an additional cost, various additional wicked frags will be made available and should fit in the container.

3. The starting bid and all subsequent bids include shipping costs to your door via next day express courier, 10:30am arrival where available anywhere in Canada. Frags are shipped in a high quality insulated container with heat pack(s) where required. Wickedfrags Live Arrival Policy applies to auction items.

4. If next day arrival is not available to either your work or home address, you need to have them shipped to a location where next day courier is available. I will not ship these frags to a location where next day delivery is not available.

5. The auction will end on Thursday September 10, 2009 at 9pm Pacific Standard Time (PST). The Canreef member with the highest bid posted publicly in this thread before 9pm PST September 10, 2009 will be determined the winner and have 48 hours to pay for the frag pack. Interac email money transfer preferred, but paypal is also accepted. No other forms of payment accepted - sorry. In the event two different Canreef members have bids of identical value, the bid received first (earliest) will be determined to be the winner. If 2 members post the same price at the same time...............well you two can figure that out!!! The Canreef date and time in the thread will be used to determine the winning bid.

FINALLY, just a reminder that these are not chop-chop frag and bag items. All pieces are fragged well in advance of shipping. All frags are prepared, packaged and shipped with pride, exactly what you would expect. The care and pride is evident when the package arrives at your door, and while you unpack. Any questions just check the feedback section (including that posted by the last auction winner), ask a Canreef member, or post in the wickedfrags Canreef forum.

NOW - what you are bidding on, look at these SPS frags!

Starting bid is only $100 shipped to your door!!! Good luck Canreef Members!

The Sunset Monti - WYSIWYG
Unmistakable, and the nicest monti I have ever seen. This will be the brightest coral in your tank. This has be maintained under 54W T5's for months. Size as illustrated on the grow-out disk. Well encrusted. And yes, it really that bright :)

Care Requirements: Medium Light (250W/400W halides, 54W T5), Low/moderate flow

http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/a..._com/sunet.jpg

The Firefighter Fuchsia
The only coral I own that I would dare call rare! The most unique coral I have ever owned in over 9 years in the hobby, only 1 other significant colony of this known to be in existence. Fuchsia base, blue tips and white polpys, think branching form. First time available online. The owner of this colony gets $100 credit per frag at the LFS for this one! 1"+ frag

Care Requirements:
Medium Light (250W/400W halides, 54W T5), Moderate flow

http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/a...uscia2copy.jpg

WF Pink Polyp Cap - WYSIWYG

Classic - this is in my grow-out tank under T5's. The base will be more green under halides. Great contrast - green with pink polyps! Moderate to fast growth for me.

Care Requirements:
Medium/Low Light (250W/400W halides, 54W T5), Low/moderate flow

http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/a...nkpolypcap.jpg

WF Undata - WYSIWYG

Alright - this is under the T5's and usually looks much better. If you have seen my colony - well this is a nice size frag from the underside of it. A nice size frag - as illustrated by the grow-out disk. Will colour up - I can show you the main colony.
Care Requirements: Medium Light (250W/400W halides, 54W T5), Moderate flow

http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/a...com/undata.jpg

WF Big Red Monti - WYSIWYG

Care Requirements: Medium Light (250W/400W halides, 54W T5), Moderate flow

Big red - this encrusting monti provides nice contrast.......against anything!

http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/a...m/redmonti.jpg

WF Multi-colour Austera- WYSIWYG

Care Requirements: High Light (250W/400W halides, 54W T5), Moderate/High flow

An interesting piece from the grow-out tank. Odd colouration.

http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/a...een-yellow.jpg

WF Blue/green monti- WYSIWYG

Care Requirements: Medium Light (250W/400W halides, 54W T5), Moderate flow

A modern classic - well encrusted!

http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/a...greenmonti.jpg

WF Meteor Shower Cyphastrea - WYSIWYG

Care Requirements: Low Light (250W/400W halides, 54W T5), Low flow

Not really an SPS - but very cool and perfect for that spot that does not not get enough light for traditional SPS. Turquoise base with pinky/peach polyps. Well encrusted.

Bidding always moves so slowly at the beginning I thought I would give it a jump start

Mrfish55 09-04-2009 01:52 AM

Well, no point in fighting Marie for this lot, I will just have to wait for frags of the colonies she will create in a few months:lol: Besides I just blew my fish budget for the next few years on a new tank. Go Marie!!

You bought a new tank?

Chaloupa 09-04-2009 01:58 AM

DROOLING...these are fantastic!

muck 09-04-2009 02:12 AM

lol.. If marie wins there should be enough frags for everyone within the year.

wickedfrags 09-04-2009 12:05 PM

Oh my - nothing subtle about that! Certainly makes for a quick start to the auction.

Thanks! And I expect I will be adding at least 1 or 2 other fantastic pieces before the end of the auction, including the "grape Jelley"

The great thing about this hobby. And yes I have seen the way Marie grows corals - wish I could grown them that fast.

dreef 09-04-2009 04:53 PM

Too many montis for me,it would be sweet if it was just all acros, another time. But very nice frag pac for sure.

Leah 09-04-2009 04:57 PM

$301.00

fkshiu 09-04-2009 05:00 PM

Waiting patiently with my sniper rifle again ;)

michika 09-04-2009 05:07 PM

$302.99

If I don't win, I guess I'll just have to make my own frag pack!

wickedfrags 09-04-2009 05:32 PM

Maybe go partners with someone to just get the pieces you really want??? Never know, winning bid may only be a little over $300. If it is the sunset monti you want, I have another one available which the winner bidder could buy at an additional cost. Identical in size and colour.

Stay tuned - at least 2-3 more pieces will be added. One nice monti cap, maybe a couple acros.

I like all the pieces - want them all....also not about how much the ending price will be. Was just expecting a fun auction.

But No Problem, just a poor newbie feeling miserable here.

As requested - care instruction will be provided beside each coral (on page 1) in the next day or two.

Specifically light and flow preferences, but perhaps a few other parameters as well for those less familiar with SPS requirements but intersted in bidding (and knowing if they can keep the corals alive and growing).

Leah 09-04-2009 06:37 PM

$303.00

I agree...with only a 3 foot tank...monti's take up too much realistate

$310

I also agree, that is why I only maintain the nicest ones now. All the regular ones were returned to the LFS once they got too big. Large colonies of nice montis - well that is a nice problem to have :) Nice is of course subjective.

I had to sell a foot wide lyng sy, a salmon orange with white polyps and a blood red...all a foot wide and spiralling beautifully...they took the whole tank

kien 09-05-2009 03:45 PM

Umm, can't you just keep pruning and cutting it back to maintain the size of the colony that you want?? Hehe. You don't have to keep a 6 inch colony. If you only want a 3 inch colony just keep fragging it! That's like, uh, grass grows too tall so I'm not going to grow any.. Or you can cut your grass to the length you want :-). (just sayin)

wickedfrags 09-06-2009 12:48 AM

ummmm, ya start a thread with some pics of those!!!!! Would love to se what thehy looked like.

care requirements added to the first post - any questions please post here or PM me. Thanks.

JPotter 09-09-2009 06:00 AM

The idea of an auction is fun. I am surprised by 2 things: (1) how to date so few people have joined in and (2) how high the bidding started..like a high reserve, then the fun of interaction with small raises which seems to have been shut down at the moment by a bid of 375$. Perhaps someone out there is just waiting to put down the 500$ bid! I also found it interesting that some didn't bid due to lack of available realestate for the large % of encrusting frags yet the highest bid to date is by a member who sites their interest as nano. Are these frags rare/valueable enough that people purchase for resale rather than personal enjoyment.
If one were to place an order for equivalent frags what would the up front value before shipping be? Is it the more sought after pieces that have some people moving the bidding up or what?

wickedfrags 09-09-2009 12:26 PM

Pleased to hear members still find the auctions enjoyable. And I agree - there appears to be a little different strategy in this auction!

Regarding your two points - I think point 2 is a function of point 1, due to the price. That being said - I would not be suprised if there are additional bids. If you look at the other auctions I have held (in my vendor forum) you will see that historically more people are involved and the bids progress more slowly.

My thoughts on the frag pack - well it would take many hours and many years to collect these pieces individually and you would be paying a fair/high price individually for most of them. Depending on the quality of your location and proximity to your LFS's, your may never get your hand son them. The winner gets them here all at one time from a reputable seller (hence the number of repeat customers bidding, including the current high bidder).

If you do not have a sunset monti in your SPS collection, well you really need one. This will be the brightest SPS coral in your tank hands down. Similarily, the fuchsia is the most unusual SPS I have ever owened and is a beauty. First time avaialable online in Canada - and this coral is not widely owned. The pink polp cap, undata and cyphastrea....all very beautiful and collectible pieces. I would not speculate on why people would buy them - ideally they will be grown out and fragged by others in the future.

As people have asked in previous auctions about the non-auction costs are for the corals (and the shipping) below is a guildeline:

Frags
Sunset monti $110 (if you can find a one)
Firefighter Fuchsia $150 (price at the LFS when they get a couple from the owner of the parent colony)
WF Pink Polyp Cap $70
WF Undata $65
WF Big Red Monti $30
Multi-Austera $45
Blue-green monti $30
WF MS Cyphastrea $60
Corals: $560

Shipping
(11lb 12x12x12 size container) $60-$85
Insulated shipping container $14
Heat pacs $4
Shipping Costs $79-$104

And yes - it is the sought after pieces that have some people moving the bidding. I know I would personally pay more than the current bid for the frags illustrated shipped to my front door.

I will add a couple more pieces to the auction tonight and will of course be throwing in some quality freebies to fill the box. Post up any additional questions or send me a PM. Cheers.

Still the highest bid?

fencer 09-09-2009 04:23 PM

I think a person has a right to bid whatever they want. Having said that, the fun of an auction is in fact bidding in increments. The reality is that a person might have gotten this package cheaper( no disrerspect to the retail value of the package) if it had been incremental. I suspect the person who had set the intial bid wanted it very much and probably will slam it at the close of the auction.

Jason McK 09-09-2009 05:45 PM

Let's take this thread back to being an auction for some great corals and not about the ethics of bidding!

wickedfrags 09-09-2009 06:34 PM

Correct.

That being said - someone who has not even bid yet could easily place the winning bid tomorrow. Snipe it at the last minute.

Agreed (was a free bump though  ) I will post some pics of the stuff to be added to the pack tonight.
