Onyx Clown Fish
Some beautiful clownfish that will hopefully make it to Canada
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/i...yclownfish.jpg |
Wow nice, I am assuming these are captive bred? Or are these wild caught?
|
They do look nice, but how much do they cost??
|
These are wild caught and were all cherry picked. Some are suppose to be as big as a pack of american cigarettes
As for price, not sure yet... |
They are very nice looking. I hope my baby Onyx I had imported from Florida grow up to look that nice.
I hope all those make it too. Hope they fill that bucket with more water. We need a better infusion of Onyx in our Canadian market. |
yea I hope they make it here too. Water was brought down just for a min to take a snapshot before they were bagged and prepped for transport.
I wouldnt mind seeing your baby onyx's  I just love these types of clowns. |
well it looks like they are now in North America... one step closer but trying to find a way to get them to calgary, lol.
sooo purdy http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/i...n/onyxpair.jpg |

|

Does anyone know how much for a pair of these would cost??
|

|

Ok, here area few pics from the development of my guys from when I got them on May 20th. May 25th. The little guys in there small breeder net for now. Omen is about 0.6 inches and had already started his 2nd bar when I got him. Runt is 0.3 inches and is just working on growing. http://i382.photobucket.com/albums/o...abbclowns1.jpg Early July. Omen's 2nd bar is growing larger on the top. No development on the bottom yet. His size at this point is almost 1.2", and Run has no 2nd bar development and is just over 0.65". http://i382.photobucket.com/albums/o...lilclowns1.jpg Runt, showing the development of his 2nd bar. His growth pattern is about a month behind that of Omen despite getting them at the same time. His size at this point on July 28th is 1 inch. http://i382.photobucket.com/albums/o...07-28-2009.jpg Showing Omen on July 28th. Bar development even. http://i382.photobucket.com/albums/o...07-28-2009.jpg Omen at Aug 3rd.. He is developing his 3rd bar now and also is starting the black around his tail and 2nd dorsal fin. The Black is getting thicker around each of the bars and he is getting the dark underlying skin before it starts becoming the Onyx colour. He is just over 4 months old in this pic and is 2 inches in length. http://i382.photobucket.com/albums/o...men08-2009.jpg This is a pic of Mommy and Daddy Onyx. http://i401.photobucket.com/albums/p.../family029.jpg The formulation of the black coloration on the body of the babies will start to be more prominent in another month's time when the 2nd bar on Omen begin to touch each other. It is common for the black coloration not to start in these guys until between 5-6 months and can take up to 18 months to fully finish. Also I am waiting for my 25g to finish cycling then one of the babies will go in there. Runt with a picasso I have, and Omen will stay in my 55g, but will be free with a Wild Caught female Big Momma that I have. |
Those are awesome!!! thanks for all the pics. Hopefully they look like the parents in a couple months.

Gosh.. if only they were that cheap... most Onyx go for well over a $100. Hobbyists are selling pairs on AquariumPros for $250+ and up.
Now I got my 2 babies at $50 a piece.. but they were just around half an inch each.. It will be interesting to see the price on these guys. |

Onyx's of this quality your looking at $250-300 for a pair. I havnt even seen anywhere in Canada that sells these high end clowns with full black coloration. |
Redcoral is getting some black Australian percula clowns this week, im hoping they are pure black or have just a bit of orange.
Im going to be the 1st to get a couple if they are pure black. |
They all have a bit of orange, it disappears when they mature. they become pure black and white.
|
Oh goodie, then just buy one that has little bit of orange and isnt full grown.
Might have to find a new home for my old clowns now. hehe. |
As soon as my lights turn on i will throw up a pic, the male has the tiniest sliver of orange left on his lower jaw. other than that the male and female are pitch black.
|
What are the name of your clowns?
black percs? |
you sure they arnt black and white ocellaris clownfish?
If its all black and white with no orange fins then they are blk and wht ocellaris clowns most likely... (I have a pair already). If its these then they go for about $35 each. Not to be confused with onyx true percs. Here is a quick google search on blk and wht occ. http://images.google.ca/images?hl=en...wi&safe=active |
Here is a pic of my black's , the male is in the back. Not the best quality of shot. Nice, but i think those onyx are a lot nicer looking.

Yes those are the ones i want the pure black n white.
very nice clowns. Sure hope those are what were getting at redcoral this week. |
Yes I know what you mean about the full coloured Onyx and price availability within Canada. It is hard to get a decent pair.
Places like Reef Aquatica who sell "Half-Onyx" unfortunately are, in my opinion, preying on those peoople looking for an onyx, and all he is selling them is True Percs for high prices. Now if you are lucky though, you will get a true SA Onyx from him. As for my little guys, I am definately hoping they breed in the future. My larger baby Omen is already doing the shimmy dance when Big Momma, my wildcaught SA Onyx goes near the baby encloser. She seems more interested in him too than the picasso who has free roam with her. Runt, the small baby seems more interested in the picasso, so it will make an interesting match. Those two will be going in a 25g on their own to do their thing. If I happen to get eggs eventually, I at least have help from a local hobbyists who breeds B&W Occies, who is excited to help me. The one thing we need is definately to get a couple good breeders of the Onyx in Canada so we can get them a little more available and reduce their price a bit. |
Damn nice fish you people have!! Good thing I don't know where any of you live!!!
Explain that one to the cops......"I wanted the Black ones" :) |
