So you know what I will be working on tomorrow. LOL

Veng68 08-14-2009 04:39 AM

Suddenly my Vertex INS 250 seems smaller.

Vic

Very nice toy! Can't wait to hear how it works for you. Curious about how quiet it will be. The Red Dragons are supposed to be silent.

Chowder 08-14-2009 06:08 AM

Nice Tom. Very interested in how that works.

Chris

albert_dao 08-14-2009 06:52 AM

Heh, you got the first in North America BTW.

SeaHorse_Fanatic 08-14-2009 09:47 AM

Wow Tom. Guess its time to visit & see this bad boy live:biggrin:

christyf5 08-14-2009 04:33 PM

Awesome Tom! Can't wait to hear the full review once you've got this bad boy running!

Tom R 08-14-2009 05:37 PM

Very impressive specs on this one , look at the air intake (:surprise:) more then Bubble King @ only 38Watts !+ silencer. if design proves to be effective this going to be a very nice skimmer.
i guess two red dragon pumps is what makes it a good one.

Alpha Kone 300 Specifications
Footprint: Forthcoming
Height: 25.75"
Base Diameter: 12.75" - Neck Diameter: 6.25"
Air Flow/Energy Consumption: 2500 lph @ 38W
Aquarium Size: Rated up to 600 gallons

Bubble king rated 2500 (!!!???) gallons?

Bubble King has less air mixing with higher power consumtion. I wonder why, are they using same pumps?

This Skimmer requires a fairly large sump.

The foot print can be configured 3 different ways.

21 x 18
24 x 18
24 x 17

it is 27" high
and it requires 8 1/2" of water in the sump to be truly silent

My sump is 27 x 39 1/2" with an opening of 21 x 21"

I can barely get my ZEOvit reactor in with the skimmer

Official specs are as follows:

A300
Footprint 23.5" x 18" OR 24" x 16.5" OR 21" x 18"
Height 27"
Base Plate 13.75" - Neck 6.375"
1400 - 1800 LPH Air to 3000 LPH Water @ 38W (x 2)
Rated to 600 gallons

The SM250 is rated to max 800 gallons off less air/water, but has a superior reaction chamber design.

Jason McK 08-14-2009 11:52 PM

WOW Very Nice. I'll be right over LOL

Jason McK 08-15-2009 04:45 PM

OK so I did go over last night. Looks like a killer Skimmer. Nothing less for a Royal Executive skimmer and it is built like a RE. Great buy Tom

Here are some pictures of the new Skimmer in action right out of the box. It took all of 5 minutes to assemble.

It has been operating for about 18 hours now. With no real problems.

The biggest problem is just the lack of information. It has a system to increase the amount of air flow which a quick explanation on how it works would be nice. It has nipples for Ozone with no explanation as to weather they need to be capped off when not in use and it would certainly be nice if they gave some idea of the water levels both pump depth and reaction chamber height for optimal skimming.

lol, thats a pretty tight fit there Tom

Looks like a pretty awesome skimmer!

Tom R 08-15-2009 05:47 PM

Yes the fit is a work of art.

It is amazing how creative us Reefers can be when it comes to making it work.

I guess that I will just have to add another sump if I want to add any more equipment.

Red acrylic...they sure know who their target market is.

I picked up a used skimmer built by ReefMania. It is about the same spec as a Euroreef RC1000 and has a built in wet neck system. No photos yet, I'm still working on it. It got pretty beat up in transit.

Out of curiosity ...... how much does one of those retail for?

Cheers,

Skimmerking 08-16-2009 02:49 PM

1400
and untamed did you get a volcano skimmer

lastlight 08-16-2009 03:14 PM

Check the DIY section on RC for some guy that made his own for MUCH less. I may give it a go one of these days the idea seems pretty sweet. My stand is already plumbed to my basement floor drain. One of these and a drain in my skimmer cup would be hella cool.

Those Reefmania skimmers loot pretty sweet, Brad. I just wished they used a pump other than the buzzy Sedras (which are <ahem> the same buzzy Sedras on my Warner Marine BTW). And they need some more red acrylic like Tom's new lab beaker.

lastlight 08-16-2009 04:30 PM

Little Krylon Fusion can BK any skimmer =)

I don't think we've finalized the pricing yet. I'll know in a week or so.

@ Brett

Why ya gotta be so ghetto man? You have a BK :P
