Fish Jumping!!
Anyone have any problems with fish jumping out of their tanks??
i have a metallic foxface showfish easily 12" that jumped out of my tank tonight! i have a feeling its from the heat of the summer ive put a ton of ice in the sump to cool down the water and make it more comfortable for the fish but im hoping the sun cools off soon!!!!! Drew |
My scissortail goby jumped out about a month ago. Only had him for about 3 weeks. Tank temperature is usually around 26-27C. It was during feeding I think because I remember seeing him eat. When I came back 10mins later he was on the floor. He was my first jumper.

My male Lyretail Anthia jumped also during feeding wasn't a heat issue, they just jump.
Also lost a green spotted gobie during the night. |
My little scooter blenny jumped 6" to its death a week ago! I couldn't believe it!

Both of my Clowns have "gone over the wall" and ended up in the overflow at one point or another. I had to recue the large one last night.
|
my huma trigger jumped into the overflow and caused a flood last week.

Any way that you can use eggcrate as your top? Good for heat and should help a bit with the jumpers. But you will get more evaporation.

I've had one of my Clowns and my firefish go into the overflow, at least the Clown surfed right through too my sump. I spent 2 hours trying to get the firefish out of the overflow.

I had my 4" lawnmower Benny jumped out of my tank yesterday. Found him starting to dry. When I picked him up he started to move. I put him back in the tank he took off. So far so good. In the passed I had 2 Orange Spotted Gobies jump out in the middle of the night too through egg crate. They did not survide.

My LMB carpet surfed a while back and I found him all crispy and dry but I put him back in the tank and he recovered nicely. (he was "tacky" to the touch and covered in cat hair)
My female clown wasn't so lucky, didn't find her in time :( |
Spoke to soon! My Lawnmower Benny did not make it.

Usually fish jump when:
- Rise in ammonia levels. - Ph drop (co2 rise) - Enemy/ predator presence - Territorial fight. - Sudden scare such as lights going on/off all at once. |
