Be Prepared for Heat Wave Coming THIS WEEKEND/WEEK

Weather services predicting lots of sun & heat with temps in the low thirties, but FEELS LIKE 37 to 41C. This is in Vancouver, so the Fraser Valley will be even hotter.

Prepare yourself, but more importantly, prepare your tanks for this upcoming heatwave.

Calgary has been 32 for the last few days which I'm sure has caused some problem for some people. How are all of those fires treating you guys?

Those fires are in Kelowna, so they don't really effect us in Vancouver (about a 5 hr drive).

BC is bone dry though and no prospect of rain for a while.

Cheers,
Vic

Frozen bottle water in your sump (water still in bottle with the cap on)

I was lucky enough to set my tank up in a really cool basement so that helps out 100 fold. Running a fan over any body of water will cause a cool down of the tank. Just have to watch evap if you go this way.

You can also shorten your lighting period.

Wow! my house is way cooler now without my tank running. I knew there would be a bright side somewhere to the crash.

Sorry to hijack, the fires are scary close but as my Calgary cousin says I should be okay
as how many fires do you see in the Ocean. I have never had my tank temp change even
in the heat or maybe I never noticed.

bowkry 07-26-2009 02:35 PM

we just got a big air conditioner so that I hope will help

Aquattro 07-26-2009 02:48 PM

My sump is in an airconditioned area downstairs, and is larger than my tank, so that helps. If it still gets too hot, I just change my photo period to run lights at night for the week.

Veng68 07-28-2009 04:27 AM

How is everyones tank holding up to the heat?

Cheers,
Vic

I'm ready for the heat wave this week; already have air conditioning, bought a couple extra fans for surface evaporation and froze ten 2-litre pop bottles for the sump.

Tom R 07-28-2009 09:34 PM

Well yesterday I pulled out my 1/2 HP Pacific Coast chiller and it immediately brought my temp back to 81 F.

Tank was at 84 last night::cry: I now have some frozen pop bottles on hand. I will try this method. It is very hot in the Fraser Valley

Ron99 07-28-2009 09:51 PM

It's hot but not scorching in White Rock. Tanks are running around 27 C right now.

Samw 07-28-2009 10:06 PM

In the apt, its 30C in the evening and 27C in the morning with all windows wide opened. Tank temp is even warmer. That was yesterday. Today might be worse.

I have an Evaporative Cooler from Sunpentown that blows out air at 27C when the room is 30C. It helps.
