Office desk Nano

Since I don't have the Oceanic Corals business taking up so much of my time I was thinking of setting one of these little tanks up on my desk at my office. Anyone else have an office desk Nano?

Here is the link to this little tank. Can't seem to go wrong for $50.00!

Its a 26 watt CF and has two little blue LEDs for moonlights.

i need that!!!

walloutlet 07-21-2009 02:29 AM

I used to have a small freshwater setup on my desk, maybe 5ga. I want to do a saltwater setup so bad but I don't know if I can. That might be a little too much, with the lights, power heads and the noise it might make.

I also worried about the cleaners at night possibly poisoning my tank with their cleaning supplies. Still haven't done it, got too many other things to buy for my main tank :)

Yeah,

I have thought of these things too but I think it would be really cool to have a little tank on my desk. Maintenance would be easy and I think it would be a good little stress reliever. I think a stern note taped to the tank should keep the cleaners away.

How can you go wrong for $50!

That's the kind of thinking that got me into trouble with saltwater in the first place. Yeah yeah yeah, its only a small 24 gallon, a couple fish shouldn't cost too much honey! $8000 later and a unhappy wife.

LOL, I know where this is going. :D

mseepman 07-21-2009 04:47 AM

How much would shipping be? Assuming you take delivery and I pick up in Vancouver?

Very cool. I could think of a few people that would go for something like that.

Ron99 07-21-2009 03:44 PM

It would be neat on a desk. If it's in your office you might want to think about an ATO for the weekends as evaporation is more of a problem in these little tanks. Many pico tanks need to be topped up twice a day if you are doing it manually.

Yeah, very true! I have a small ATO unit I am going to use, I plan on keeping a small RODI reservoir under my desk.. I live 3 minutes from work so bringing in some RODI or saltwater for changes will be a snap!

It takes me 1 hour to get to work and 1.5 hours to get home. :(

Good luck with you nano! If it was my tank I would build a zoanthid garden with army of sexy shrimps.

I can get these tanks shipped for about $15 U.S. each right to my door if I order two or more, I am going to order one in the next couple of days.

Anyone else want one let me know soon!

Here is another link to a more detailed description!

I had that exact idea in mind! Zoas aren't a big fan of my 150G at home!

Will do!

We will have to compare office Nanos after a month or so after we get them and set them up.

Oceanic 07-21-2009 05:06 PM

I am going to set the cutoff date for these as this Thursday July 24 at noon.

belzebuth 07-21-2009 05:07 PM

OOOH! Please tell me more...........

Ron99 07-21-2009 05:13 PM

One more thought for you guys. Find out about the bulb and different replacements. Those type of bulbs may only come in warm white (5600K or 6500K). Not sure that would be ideal for a pico reef unless you want to grow some nice macro algae.

Don't want to hijack your thread Ian. It's for the nano contest:

belzebuth 07-21-2009 05:17 PM

Good point... Ian can you see if we can get other bulbs for this ? I really don't want to grow macro algae, I already have a CPR fuge for that:lol:

Okay, I will look into it. The description on Premium Aquatics does say that it comes with a blue and white bulb. I will phone them right now.

**EDIT** Just talked to Premium Aquatics, the bulb is a 50/50 Blue and White special bulb. He said the light is a nice crisp light blue in color.

mseepman 07-21-2009 05:42 PM

The light bulb appears to have three loops to it, so it's different than the Coralife bulb that is sold in most stores. It would be interesting to find out what a replacement bulb costs. Finnex doesn't list this tank on their site, nor the replacement bulbs.

Yeah, I noticed this too; however, it is a brand new tank for them as listed on Reef Builders. I will call Finnex and find out.

Oceanic 07-21-2009 05:57 PM

Just talked to Finnex, the bulbs are custom factory ordered by Finnex for their lamps, they are indeed a 50/50 crisp blue and 7200K white. The bulbs are readily available as replacements and I was told will retail for about $10. Finnex has yet to upload this new tank and light fixture to their website.

So..... It looks like we have the light issue worked out.

FishIsGood2 07-21-2009 07:06 PM

I started the SW hobby with a 3g in my office. It is a Tom Deco Kit3. I added a heater and a mini power head to it and I could keep 1 fish and a couple of softies.

The only issue I have is the heat problem over the summer weekend, especially a l-o-n-g weekend where there is no air-conditioning in the office.

belzebuth 07-21-2009 07:20 PM

Yes, we do

Yes, I would round these off at $55.00 even if I can get a minimum order of two. I am not sure about taxes yet but I would use my excellent customs broker. Taxes would be minimal at best if I have to pay them.

So who all is in? Anyone besides myself for sure?

belzebuth 07-23-2009 04:31 AM

Ron99 07-23-2009 06:14 AM

That is a good price. I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys do with these.

mseepman 07-23-2009 04:28 PM

Unfortunately, I gotta pass for now...Looks like we will be starting on a new house next month and all my dough has to go towards the big new tank that I'll be putting together.
