How old is your oldest coral?
I thought this had been done before?? I just tried searching though and couldn't come up with it.
Poll doesn't include anything non-coral like fish, anemones, clams, etc. This includes corals you no longer have! |
I have a pink pocillipora damicornis that I got from Brad (Aquattro) and he mentioned that it was over 10 years old, I've had it for about 3-4 years (maybe more, I can't remember when I got it) and he had it several years before that.
Its at the bottom of this photo: http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...5/topdown2.jpg |
Very cool Christy!! :)
I clicked to make the results public who voted for what, but it never works for me. Don't know why. |

I voted 7-8yrs but it's wrong, I have mushrooms that go back 9-10yrs and toadstools from a mother colony that I got 9yrs ago.
My oldest hard coral (fox coral) is 8yrs  |
My oldest is my bubble coral, 17 years this year and still growing.
|
I voted lower, but I guess I do have a mushroom colony that I tried to kill multiple times (even blow-torched the LR out of the tank, serious!) and it is pushing 9 years old.

Nothing kills Kenya Tree... My first coral and I still have bits of it everywhere!

I voted 7-8 years even though I've only been in the hobby for about 6.
This is due to my purple, green & orange monti caps, which I've had since close to the start. I bought them as frags from a local reefer who I assume had them for at least a year before me, judging by the size of the mother colonies. They very well could be much older than I give them credit, but unless "Canadian Man" comes back to tell me how old they are, I'll never really know. |

I still have a pink birdsnest that I got from Shao (smokinreefer) about 7 years ago, I believe he had it a long time as well.

my toadstool is over 2 years. T'was the first coral i bought when i got in the hobby. my torch, which i bought at the same time, just died 2 mo ago.. but for no reason other than my CLOWNS just destroyed it when they found out they could host it.

I recently managed to kill a few of my oldest corals...but I still have pieces/colonies that came from my first tank over 10 years ago.
I've had my green carpet anemone almost 7 years now. My oldest fish at the moment is my female Maroon clown who I've had for only 4 years. My previous best were a yellow tail damsel (13 years) and a convict damsel (12 years). While I keep documentation on when fish were added, I've not been so careful documenting coral additions. I was surprised to find photos of existing corals dated 1998. While you might think these corals would be huge, they spent a long time in a very small tank and only small fragments of these were transferred to the new tank. |
That's awesome guys!! :)

Although now gone from an infection, my bubble coral was around 12yrs. old. My percs are around 6 yrs. old now.
