How things change

O.K. folks lets see those before and after pics. This is my tank way back in March of 98 to June of 03.
I would say there has been a slight improvement

That's amazing - that Tang has really grown!

Delphinus 07-11-2003 03:27 PM

Although he hasn't really moved much, has he??

Bob I 07-11-2003 03:52 PM

My only question is this. What is up with those godawful blue tanks.? Are we trying to simulate the bottom of the ocean at hundreds of feet?

Remember though, that is only my opinion. And opinions are like bellybuttons, everybody has one.

Now let the fun begin.
:BIG:

Delphinus 07-11-2003 04:17 PM

It's a geek thing... There's just something about the colour blue. It doesn't matter what kind of gizmo it is, if it has something that glows blue, geeks will covet it. For example, have you seen the new cell phones with the blue LED screen? (DRrrrrRRooooool...) Sweet!!

When you drive by a house and you see an eerie blue glow eminating, do you not find yourself wondering what they have? I know I do. If it was like a green, yellow, or red eerie glow I am certain the mystique would have nowhere near the same appeal.

 I wish I could finish off with something like "J/K" .. but the truth is ... well ... I know I really just dig things that glow blue. (Methinks we need a "MrBlue" smiley... )

AJ_77 07-11-2003 04:22 PM

Mmmmm... Bluuuuuuuuue....

I like the 2nd pic better by far. (GEEK!)

Absolutely, if we are going for the eerie factor, that one wins hands down.
:agrue:

Bob, the blue comes from the camera. In person, it looks much different. If Steve brings over his million dollar camera, he can capture the true appearance.

I understand fully.

Aquattro 07-11-2003 05:07 PM

Just to add to this, I now have the 10k bulbs back on with a Radium in the middle. Not so blue anymore...sorry Tony

Delphinus 07-11-2003 07:19 PM

Awwwww, then you aint so geeky...

Seriously, how come the switch from 2 radiums to 1? All 400's?

Aquattro 07-11-2003 07:21 PM

Tony, I'm just trying different things right now. As the acros get bigger, they cause more shading below them and I found the intensity lacking. I'm trying to get the intensity of 10k with most of the color of the radiums. I still might try 3 radiums and see what that does. And yes, all 400w

Steve,

Why always end shots? Looks great though.

Brad,

How do you like the 10k/Radium combo. Much brighter I assume? I'd like to go to 400's.

StirCrazy 07-11-2003 11:53 PM

it isn't always end shots.. that angle just takes the best advantage of the coral flats. the side shows a bunch of rock with coral on tomp as my sides are strait up and down as I have to much rock.

Steve

Jack, I don't like it much. I'm going to try 2 radium with a 10k in the center and decide which combo I can live with. Three Radiums might be enough, so we'll see.
One thing for sure is the extra bulb is giving me heat problems again.

EmilyB 07-12-2003 06:34 AM

Good thread Rich..... I choked on the keyboard pretty bad over Brad's tang...

The tank my reef is in was started back in '99.......no digi pics. It was FOWLR to start with, and this is the only before shot I could find:

http://members.shaw.ca/beans666/Fourpeels.jpg

Yes, they are the same chromis... And look, there is trig !

And a recent shot taken by Evan:

sumpfinfishe 07-12-2003 03:54 PM

 Wow Deb- I can't believe how much that Green Chromis has grown

Do you still have Trig?

If I ever went with a second FOWLR then a Trigger would be the first one to take the plunge, such a  fish

Hey Brad, I like the "blue lagoon" look
I think it's looks smashing

Cheers, Rich

EmilyB 07-12-2003 08:11 PM

Yes Rich, Trig is still here. He pretty much makes all the decisions for his tank now.....
