Spring/Summer BBQ & Fragswap Meet....
 

Hey Calgary Reefers,

Was wondering if there is any interest in a Spring/Summer BBQ & Fragswap meet?

I think it would be fun, add a few faces to a few member names (even though I have met LOTS at Red Coral.. haha )

Are you offering to host Josh? Dont wanna step on your toes...I have already been talkin to Kev about me hosting one... ...I was thinking just after stampede...to give time for frags to heal/grow and for plenty of notice...

What are some dates everyone would like to strive for?

Not July 16-20 for me... haha.. most others would probably work though...

were attending a wedding on the 18th of July.... but thats the extent of our unavailability :biggrin:

Looking at my schedule July 11 would work best for me.

I have been doing a lot of thinking about this and how to set a swap meet up.

So here is what I come up with hoping I can get positive feedback and ideas.


Meeting place;

It is difficult to invade someones home and it always puts undo pressure and expectations on the host.
Why not meet at a restaurant or lounge and let them do the dishes and clean up the bathroom.

Frags

Everyone brings their frag/coral/fish in a numbered and identified bag and it is then put in a heated cooler or covered tub.

Viewing Frags

Red Coral will supply a large picture viewer that can be set up anywhere in the host establishment that people can see pictures of the frags for sale. Pictures can be sent to me the day before and copied to the viewer. ( there will be no comments like "nice frag what does it look like when its open?")

Just some suggestions and am looking for more ideas.

Talking with Kevin tonight, and came up with a few suggestions:

Why not have it at park, bowness, or edworthy or something.
Lots of picnic tables and space.

It could be a potluck theme. If a couple of people brought a small BBQ (we have a little Coleman we could help with) and some people brought a salad, some buns, etc etc.
This way no one is having to hold responsibility for everything as Kevin was saying.

As well, with a laptop big enough to view pictures of frags, if anyone was willing to lend theres for uploading of the frag pictures, that'd be great.

July will be nice and warm out, so tons of mingling can occur (haha!) and the park will provide some shade.

Any thoughts on this??

Id be up for a meet. Wont have any frags to trade yet though :cry: but would like to chat aquariums for a while. Im gone from the 12-19th if it matters. My tank will probably only just be starting to get stocked at this point.

Kevin, I am still planning on getting that tank drilled by the way. Just moved out the Sunday before the day I thought I could get down there and butchered my body and didnt feel like hauling a 150 gallon across town the next day. Also had no phone cause wasnt hooked up yet. I'll have to hit you back someday soon.

I'd love to come if I am around. :biggrin:

I would be down for this... in fact with a little more interest I could even be convinced to host it.... and it could be kid/dog friendly swap meet. We have a good sized back yard.

I'd be interested as long as the date works out for me.

I accidently made a large nunber of frags just the other day... :rolleyes:

Pazil is willing to do a kid and dog swap - might be worth the trip, to pack up the dogs
and kid to see what I can swap them for. Will I have to take another kid and two dogs
or can I just get corals???

Ps to pazil those mystery zoas I got from you are brown center green ring and brown on the outside the same as some of the others I got from you cute lil guys tho

Lets start posting dates for possible days!.. Or even start a poll.. I suppose if there is the interest and Pazil is interested in hosting, he could lay out some dates for us to choose from as well, but's that completely up to you Lawrence! :mrgreen:

Either the 18th or the 25th of July would be best for us.... both are Saturdays. We will provide food and beverages for everyone... just bring your frags. Perhaps someone else could bring a tub or 2 to float bags....That is if there is enough interest and you guys are on board... If there is a better venue I would not be insulted.

July 25th would be the one for me..

Whenever you guys decide to run this I will do my best to make it.

I definitely want to come. Might be away the 25th at a wedding. I can confirm closer to the date though if you need to know for preparation reasons. My room mate might still come but might not either if I dont come. Not sure yet.

We wont have frags, anything else we can bring to trade?! lol... or at least we could learn how you guys frag for down the road so we do it properly, even?

OK well lets try to firm things up for all those who are interested.... Here are the details as I understand would be favourable for those who spoke up....

Frag swap / BBQ get together at Fishytime's place;

July 25th, 2009 from 6pm until whenever but prior to July 26th :lol::lol:
All food and beverages will be supplied
We will have 2 large rubbermaid tubs set up to float frag bags
Bring some frags to trade or just come to meet everyone.
Children and dogs are welcome (but not for trade):biggrin::biggrin:

I think kevin had a great idea with the numbered frag bags and pictures sent prior with a corresponding number and we can have these frags and numbers displayed on our laptop for people to see what they look like when they are open. So maybe we can steel this idea..... Thanks Kev!!!

If anyone else has any ideas please speak up!!

Also if we could get somewhat of a confirmation list of who will be coming and how many guests you will be bringing that would help for food and drink preparations.
