New SLR, New Pictures

Hi guys,

I recently acquired a Nikon D70s (used) for 400$.. and its probably the best 400$ I have spent. It included 2 batteries, a lens, cables, etc, etc...

Anyhoo..the pictures of some of my corals... (Some I took under 20K light, and some under 10K)

WOW, VERY NICE!!! I can't wait for my decadia to get to that size.

Atomikk 05-29-2009 12:04 PM

Decadia is a slower grower. If you leave it alone, it may take you up to a year to be that big.

At the size mine is I think it'll take quite a bit longer than that.

What's the last sps? I love that, It has such an unusual color.

The temporary ID is Acropora convexa.. but that I would have to confirm. The radial corallites are very small, so its more unique than other types of corallites.

The camera is a Nikon D70s, using Macro, ISO 500, Auto Focus (for now). Its quite easy to use, and there is a lot to play with.

Tom, if you download the photos onto your computer most photo editing programs will extract all the information about which settings a photo was taken with for you. For example, the bottom picture of the red acro is called "redconvexa.jpg". It was taken without a flash and with a 1/60 shutter speed at an aperture of f4.5 and a focal length of 70mm. A 1000 ISO was used.

I didn't know that you could get that much info, didn't even know you could get any.

I have come to realize this. A lot of people are saying that even as an older camera, its value is still retained. Its fun playing around with the settings, and trying new focal points on corals.

I will have more pictures I am sure...

Awesome pics, thanks for sharing! I love the color of the red and green Cyphastrea (under 20K obviously, it glows by the look of it), may I ask what that one is called?

The name they have given it (the die hard reefers) is Meteor Shower. But the latin name is Cyphastrea ocellina.
