New Carpeting
Shag? Pile? Plush?
No, it's the amazing Stichodactyla haddoni, or Carpet Sea Anemone (or variant thereof). (Many thanks to Tony & Linda for delivery and acclimation, to Jonathan & Katie for invaluable support, and to Ross for emergency tubing supply!) First morning, new home: http://members.shaw.ca/AJ_77/haddoni_full.jpg Closer: http://members.shaw.ca/AJ_77/haddoni_close.jpg |
My God, that looks spectacular!!
More pics! MORE!!! Christy :) |

Working on it! (FASTER!!!) OK, don't usually show off the tank, but: http://members.shaw.ca/AJ_77/haddoni_wide.jpg |
got any clowns for it?
|
 Alan !
|
 -
Got 2 Pink Skunk Clowns (A. perideraion) that are currently hanging around a branching Euphyllia sp. on the left. Hopefully they will check out the Carpet in the next couple of days or so... |
looking great today Alan!
Did it seem to attach to the bottom or something yet? |
Looks awesome. I can't believe its so green.
|
Christy - yeah it is amazing, and the photos don't even capture it, really.
Jon - it's now starting to dig in, the whole foot is sloped and the lead edge is displacing substrate. http://members.shaw.ca/AJ_77/haddoni_digging.jpg It's also attaching to the rock just behind. Hopefully it doesn't move that one - it has a fair bit of weight on it. Structural, you might say. http://members.shaw.ca/AJ_77/haddoni_attaching.jpg |
My 20g seems so strangely empty now ...
Take good care of her, Alan ... she looks pretty happy in her new home. (Don't underestimate her ability to topple structural rocks! You may wish to consider epoxying some of the neighbouring rocks together if you feel they're at risk..) |

As for looking happy, which is more important, gross watts of lighting or PAR? The 175 MH better than 220W mixed-K PCs? I'll take a closer look at the rock structure tonight. It is recently set, and seemed good and solid - no epoxy anywhere thoiugh (yet). |

 Very nice. Beautiful anemone Have to watch it dont eat yer fish now.
|
I was kinda wondering about that. I'm pretty sure I can see it eyeing those chromis!
|
Oh come on, the fish are smarter than THAT! They haven't gone near it!
You can see them eyeing it warily from a safe distance, though... (the chromis stay near the surface, and the YT damsel is too smart, but we can always hope - ) |
My understanding is that carpets often eat fish. I think DJ88 can confirm this!!
|
Do chromis drift when they sleep?

I "hope" that the fishes in with it continue to be wary, but from accounts of Carpet owners, I expect that there will be incremental losses over time. Still pretty cool, though... |
They like hippo tangs.
