Well I suppose I will be the one to post a dissenting opinion.
I feel the 2010 Olympics will bring too much development to Whistler and Vancouver that we don't need. Whistler is already overdeveloped, overcommercialized and overcrowded. The price of a hotel room there is steep, after the Olympics the price of a hotel room will be astronomical. And if twice as many tourists/skiiers get attracted to Whistler, the lift lines will be twice as long, and the runs will be twice as crowded. Perhaps they will cut down more trees to make more room for the skiers. There should be a limit to development. We don't just need to have bigger and more of everything. There is more to this life than $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and more dollars. Just my two bits worth. |
I look at it this way.. it is a fast road to what would happen regardless.. You really think development is going to stop in Whistler?? It is world renowed.. Its going to get pricer and pricer no matter what. Why not have a world class event, one of a kind, probably not in my life time ever again event?? I am all for it.. Even if I do have to save up for 7 years to afford to go see a hockey game!! I am there..
