Vortech Group Buy - It's On! ENDED!! Thank You

So I am planning on buying a Vortech MP40. If we can get a group order together I think we could negotiate a better price for them. So if you are interested let me know as I need some numbers in order to negotiate.

Let me know if you are seriously interested in buying either an MP40 or MP20.

Ryan 05-01-2009 12:21 AM

Depending on a date I might be interested in a MP40

imisky 05-01-2009 01:35 AM

depending on the date and price ill be interested in a MP20

reefy 05-01-2009 02:55 AM

I might be interested in MP40 depends what price

buddyreefer 05-01-2009 03:06 AM

yes me too let me know what the prices are

parkinsn 05-01-2009 03:10 AM

for the right price i might be in

imisky 05-01-2009 03:24 AM

BTW are you ordering directly from EcoTech? or going through a vender? I think the important part is to get the number of units needed and the price first then the people seeing this thread might be able to respond better, without seeing a price, its hard to say.

Ron99 05-01-2009 03:40 AM

EcoTech doesn't sell direct. I think I have a lead on one vendor who may do them for as low as USD $365 for the MP40w and USD $265 for the MP20. That would probably include shipping. Minimum would probably be at least 5 or 6 units.

I was thinking I would get interest from serious parties so we have an idea of numbers and negotiate from there. That being said I think at least 6 units would be the minimum to negotiate a good price. The more we have the better the deal probably.

I would like to make this happen in the next 2 to 3 weeks max.

imisky 05-01-2009 04:07 AM

Have you gotten in contact with the dealer? Im guessing, for other people as well that probability of it being more expensive is keeping us from being 100% committed. With the price you listed that would be a saving of about $75 on the MP20 and $125 on the MP40. Let us know if there will be shipping price on top of those, or your sure those prices are shipping included.

Ron99 05-01-2009 04:58 AM

It's not 100% confirmed. I go that info from the fellow at reefcentral who was organizing the group buy there. Those are the prices he quoted me and shipping was included in that price. If you aren't in the lower mainland then you would probably have to pay shipping from here to your location. He was a bit busy and didn't have much time to talk so I told him I would follow up with him next week when I had some idea of how many pumps we might be interested in.

At this point, I'm not looking for 100% commitment but interest from people who were probably buying one anyhow at full price or those that would be highly likely to buy if we can get some sort of discount. I can then give vendors a range of quantities and find out what discounts they might do.

We would likely have to pay PST and GST at the border too but we would probably pay that where ever we bought them.

geeluk 05-01-2009 05:16 AM

I am interested in the MP40.

imisky 05-01-2009 05:19 AM

id be interested, keep us updated on the final prices and THANKS!

hillegom 05-01-2009 05:26 AM

I'd be interested in the MP40.

Ryan 05-01-2009 05:31 AM

I am apart of a Hemi forum and when they do group buys with a vendor usually they dont do a big group order what they do is have a coupon code and only members of the forum know it. When you type in the coupon code it will knock off a certain percentage or dollar amount.

Didnt really matter if it was 1 unit or 30 units the vendor just gave a discount because we were apart of the forum.

FISHNUTS 05-01-2009 01:30 PM

Post the prices when you get them. It may intrest me at the time, especially if it is pay day.

Might be a mute point and this is just fyi. Group buys like this are the reason there is no distributor for vortech here. So in a way you are contributing to the problem. Not trying to start anything....just telling it like it is.

I agree, support your local shop or soon they won't be there at all. I can appreciate trying to save a few bucks, but personally I would rather spend a little extra and have the peace of mind knowing that if something went wrong and I needed service I had somewhere to take the item without having to ship it off somewhere.

sitandwatch 05-01-2009 03:13 PM

Good luck I just picked up an mp20 about 3 weeks ago. I love cranking it up and watch it clean off all my rocks.

Note I was going to get into a group buy through another forum but with the price plus conversion and shipping it was less to buy it frrom JL

There are a couple of Canadians carrying the Vortechs. I'm all for supporting local vendors but for some reason many of them refuse to budge on pricing whereas US vendors seem much more willing to offer a discount. I do plan on approaching the Canadian vendors as well to see if they will give us some discount. I don't mind spending $20 or even $30 more on something if I can get it locally but if it is closer to $80 or $100 difference or even more in some cases I will go where I can get the better price.

After exchange etc. the difference on these Vortech pumps is probably something like $65 or $70. That's a fair savings. If the Canadian guys are willing to come down in price by $40 or $50 I would be happy to buy from them.

Mrfish55 05-01-2009 05:15 PM

Retailers are bound by the msrp pricing rules as set by the supplier, if they are caught selling for less they can be cut-off, If a retailer sells at too slim a margin they can ill afford to offer any kind of customer service to back up the product. If you do a group buy out of the US and someone has a issue where does it go for service?

imisky 05-01-2009 05:33 PM

Ecotechs customer services are quite good in the warranty respect. They will require you to ship the unit in for service if its a big problem.but if its a small part such as a wetside magnet they will send the magnet to you and all you do is open the unit up and replace it yourself. Also it doesnt matter where the unit is, or if it is 2nd hand as long as its still under warranty Ecotech will service it.

Buying from LFS is what i usually do, but for bigger more pricer units, i believe everyone likes to shop around for the biggest bargain.

scuglass 05-01-2009 07:12 PM

Id probably be interested in an Mp-40 depending on price.

Would a 40 be too much flow for a 4 foot with a sandbed?

sitandwatch 05-01-2009 07:50 PM

Totally get the MP40, I run an MP20 in my RSM 34g and it might be a little much when on full but I can turn it down to level that I like around 80%

MP40 will allow you more topend then the 20 but you can turn it down to to about what the 20 would be at around 70% - 80%

That's what I plan to use it in. I had some correspondence with Steve from Ecotech and he felt the 40 would be great for a 4 foot tank. Apparently the flow from these is fairly wide and gentle. It looks to me like they use a much larger propeller that turns more slowly to move water rather than a small fast spinning one like the Koralias etc.

Ron99 05-02-2009 02:17 AM

Dan at Aquatic Addictions has come through for us. If we can get a total of 12 units he will do the following pricing for us:

MP40w $449.95
MP20 $314.95
Battery Backup $197.99

Dan will want a 50% deposit. I'm just waiting to hear from him as to how long it will take to get them in.

So I will start things off as I am in for an MP40. 11 more to go...

Does this include tax and shipping to my house in vancouver, BC?

Tax is extra but you're going to pay that wherever you buy it. Shipping to you is not included. You will either have to pay extra for shipping or pick it up in Abbotsford or we can try to make some arrangements so that some of us can pick up pumps for others and meet in a convenient location. I come into Burnaby and Vancouver several times each month so I'm sure I could pick some up and meet folks somewhere mutually convenient. Maybe even at one of the Reef Network dinners or something.

Hey, maybe we can convince Dan to come out to the dinner and bring some out

So why would everyone from BC want to deal with shipping when a local shop is offering them for cheaper?

I didn't end up getting a used one off of RC like I was going to as I now want to wait for the MP10. The more and more I have been reading about them, I like smaller size for my nano. Won't work out for this group buy though! ;)

andestang 05-02-2009 04:25 PM

I'll support Red Coral on that deal and I don't have to worry about 12 other people buying in. Good to see a vendor step forward. :)

OceanicCorals-Ian- 05-02-2009 04:26 PM

Edited. I won't step on the other vendors toes in this thread. See my post within the Oceanic corals thread for more details.

I asked JL... they said they won't be carrying mp10 unfortunately....

I plan to get mine from my friend in the states though... :)

mseepman 05-02-2009 05:03 PM

Are you willing to ship? Obviously I would pay the shipping cost.

I will probably get my family to get me one from down there too. Actually I will be down in Cali next month, so I will look for one then.

Wonder why JL would not carry them???

hillegom 05-02-2009 05:43 PM

I am in on the original group buy

geeluk 05-02-2009 07:25 PM

I will commit to the original group buy for a MP40. If there is not enough for the group buy by the 15th I will probably have drop out and make the purchase through Red Coral. Thanks to Ron99 and the vendors for putting this together.

Ron99 05-02-2009 09:15 PM

Okay, looks like we are at 3 MP40s. Anybody else? I am sure we can make arrangements to get pumps to lower mainland folks who can't make it out to Abbotsford themselves so don't be shy...

Skimmin 05-02-2009 10:57 PM

MP 40's

I'm going to buy two MP40's and another MP 20 but I'm stuck in school til the end of June. By the end of July I'm gonna purchase them. What's the cut off date for the group order? I'd be more than happy to pick up from Calgary, unless someone in Edmonton is going to carry them. Just for the record. I've had my MP20 for about six months and it's the best money I've ever spent for flow in an aquarium. Works like a charm
