Thats it? I though you would have it full of rock and water by now

Enjoy it, I like my RSM130.

Quincy 05-03-2009 06:36 PM

it has begun!!!!!!!!

So yesterday i finished tank assembly it was quick aneat and simple, very impressed on design of tank componrnts and assembly. i added 40lbs of live sand, my 65-70lbs of live rock been cooking all week in rubbermaid container.
my parameters are salinity 1.027, pH 8.2, Amonia 1, Nitrate 0, Nitrite 0, Alk norm, Phosphate 0. And so it begins, time to wait for the cycle!

Skimmerking 05-03-2009 09:08 PM

wow that was quick and it looks nice too, what is the GAL 34

Quincy 05-03-2009 09:13 PM

no its 66 G or 250L

Snaz 05-03-2009 10:37 PM

Nice ripple on the surface! Do you think the stock pump is any good? Most AIO the first thing that gets upgraded are the pumps.

Please borrow a camera, cell phone shots are not doing this beauty any justice!

Quincy 05-03-2009 10:44 PM

so far the pumps are great enough power i believe so far, time will tell. yeah i should get a camera

Skimmerking 05-04-2009 12:02 AM

how much does that puppy go for

Quincy 05-04-2009 12:13 AM

Ocean City cheapest in city $2000, they also give u a $100 store credit on anything aswell. Other retailers saying their under $2000 without stand, or over $2100 with live rock only credit.

Tank is looking good, now comes the patience for the cycling then the fun (spending money) of stocking begins.

Update May 5

Moved the live rock around to look appealing, live sand dust clouds were everywhere! Well my amonia is 0 from 2-4 few days ago? nitrie and nitrate still zero, pH8.2, alk norm. Anyone have any suggestions to star my cycle?

A piece of raw prawn perhaps? Heard of others doing this.

Rbacchiega 05-06-2009 12:36 AM

drop in a cube of frozen food. That'll get things going in a hurry

Quincy 05-06-2009 12:46 AM

K, just threw in a cube of frozen blood worms, hundreds of red little strings floating around my tank, hope this does it!

Skimmerking 05-06-2009 01:47 AM

I have told many people on here to use the Hagen cycle on the tank for start ups I have had great sucess with it if you are using your tank i would go with the 500 ml bottle and put the whole thing in, trust me it works great ask Lance about it..... I have been using it for many years and have never had a issue with it.

Quincy 05-09-2009 02:07 PM

I noticed in my tank this morning a dead red crab beside my other red hermit crab! didnt know i had a second one in my tank, must have been living in the live rock possibly(didnt know he was in the tank). i will leave his corspe in tank to help with the cycle.

Its probably just a "molt".

Quincy 05-09-2009 02:30 PM

Looking good Quincy! Congrats on your first fish. Don't worry the clowns are just kinda freaked with the new territory, it will take them a couple of weeks before they settle down and look comfortable.

alouie 05-22-2009 09:49 PM

Congratulations on the tank. Keep the posts coming. I'm hoping to get the RSM 250 also!

Quincy 05-28-2009 09:37 PM

just added a purple pseudochromis, he is hiding in the live rock cant get a pic of him at the moment.

yycguy 06-01-2009 04:05 AM

Just Wondering how your temps are doing ? I have a RSM 130 and I would like to upgrade to the 250 my concern though is I have read some reefers are have temperture issues? I run my 130 between 78-80 how is the 250 for you?
Joel

Quincy 06-05-2009 01:26 AM

temp has been fine for me so far, range 77-80. the hod has a fan for the lights on both ends and also double fan for top of water.

yycguy 06-05-2009 06:37 AM

Well that sounds good as I don't think buying a chiller is what one would want to do right away. Is the skimmer working good? That has been the downside of the RSM's, I am guessing it should be better than the 130 being adjustable?
Thank you for the info :)

Quincy 06-07-2009 02:13 AM

yes skimmer works well, makin good skimate
