Does this sound as dumb as I think it sounds?
Today, at a local LFS, we overheard a very strange comparison. Both my wife and I thought it was hilarious. Just wanted to share it and see what other people thought on the subject!
One of the employees was helping some customers pick out some fish, and when asked why the other fish didn't bug the pleco, she replied it was because they tasted like dandelion. Dandelion? Really?? Just curious as to where this would come from, and how a person would know, other than personally? Hahah. The things you'll do to make a sale. :fish2: |
They DO taste like dandelion! Er ... I mean, what an odd thing to say. What a weirdo.
(For the record I'm not even sure what a dandelion tastes like.. let alone a plec.) |
Maybe she meant they taste like sh....err...fecal matter....
|
did trhe place start with p.. and end in d?? because that is definately something that could go on there. I've been told some pretty fantastic things there..but that takes the cake...and don't get me started about when some people start talking about reptiles....

This brings up an interesting point. Let pretend your at the LFS and you overhear an employee tell a customer, "Yes sir you can keep a school of tangs in your 15 gallon reef tank."
Would you say something or keep your mouth shut? oh yah hippies taste bitter. |
Broiled Pleco Fillets With Garlic Herb Sauce Recipe
Ingredients 1/2 tsp garlic, minced . salt & pepper . 1/4 c fresh parsley or fresh dill, minced . 1/4 c lemon juice . 1 1/2 lbs firm pleco fillets . 1/3 c olive oil Directions Step #1 Preheat the broiler. Step #2 Grease a baking sheet. Step #3 Whisk together the oil, lemon juice, garlic & parsley in a small bowl. Step #4 Spice up to taste with salt & pepper. Step #5 Arrange the fillets on the prepared baking sheet. Step #6 Drizzle with some of the flavored oil. Step #7 If the fillets are less than 1/4 inch thick, broil for 2 to 4 mins, until the fish is firm & barely cooked through. Step #8 If the fillets are thicker, broil for 8 to 10 mins per inch of thickness. Step #9 Serve hot. Enjoy the Broiled Pleco Fillets With Garlic Herb Sauce recipe Doesn't taste like dandelions to me :) |
Hahah! Love the replies.
We thought it was funny. And yeah, the place started in a P and ended in a D. As for the 15 tangs in a small tank, I used to work at a petstore, and we had troubles with one lady that came in, claiming she had multiple tanks (Freshwater, mind you). And every second day she'd bring back a dead fish and want a refund, and she'd scan coupons so she didn't have to pay for anything. (This never lasted with me, but unfortunately not every employee knew who she was). Finally she bought 2 pacus (that were just under 12") because she told the employee she had a 180G tank, brought THOSE back in 2 days later, and I was the one working. Lets just say that...yes...i did open my mouth. I wouldn't know where she'd get a fish tasting like dandelion! Hopefully she hasn't tasten either, especially to compare, but I can't say that for sure! I just had to chuckle because the customers were like "Ohhh, I get it, self defense".:lol: |

So glad I wasn't the only one!! |
I just licked my sons and it tastes more like grass then dandelions! What a liar, some people will say anything for a sale!
:mrgreen::drinking::crazyeye::puke: |
I used to work for the company and I can say that not everyone who works there was like that, but there were a few. I know the person responsible for training etc and he's a standup guy...just with such a high turnover it doesn't surprise me that some people are being told made up facts.
Just goes to prove that everything should be taken with a grain of salt... |

When I was 14 years old I spent the summer visiting and touring Venezuela and I also fished the Rio Orionoco. There I caught a 24"+ Pleco (I didn't know it was a Pleco at the time). It was a dinosaur! It had scales along its' back and sides just like a dinosaur. My uncle took the fish and knocked on the first hut/shack and offered the fish to the old woman in black and told her that we could all partake of it if she would cook it. I couldn't bring myself to accept that invitation and now will never know what a pleco really tastes like!
Its super time now so I won't tell you about the toothless old, old woman in the bannana plantation that was preparing corn patties by gumming corn kernels, shaping it in her gnarled hands and tossing it on hot rocks to cook. I lost a lot of weight that summer in '65 |
I dont know what pleco tasts like but I have heard that Tangs are very tasty. Or at least I have read it on the internet so it must be true.

(I never said anything about how they taste though - im a carnivore  - Almost ) Chris |
parrot fish are yum-i-licious. Had some when I was in Tahiti...mmmmmmm
I add dandelions in my salad sometimes...well the greens...either I eat them or the beardies do, whatever. :D Radiccio...now that's a bad tasting lettuce..unless there's salt, olive oil and balsamic vinegar with fresh vine picked tomatoes...then it's not so bad :D MMMM Now I'm hungry |
Salads like that are great. I actually quite enjoy mixed greens. You'll get some bitter stuff, but you gotta suck it down and know you're eatin HEALTHY!
Too much 'o that dressing Rebecca talked about though - and your working backwards, haha. |
and how. I've actually gotten quite used to a little bit of EVOO and some vinegar and a pinch of salt and pepper. Sometimes with some lemon juice...best salad dressing...EVER
|
PPPfffffffffttt Salad!
I like meat, with a side of meat, all covered in a nice meat sauce. |
^ Reminds me of that commercial where the guy says he's a "meatitarian"
|
I'm a meatitarian - it's a personal choice!
Drives the wife nutty :D |
don't get me wrong, I love a good steak...but salad help keeps me....y'know.
