I have one got it the day it came out.

I can't say I like it very much it really needs a software upgrade I think it will be good but right now it' still very buggy. I do like the screen size for browsing canreef while I'm out but thats about it. I keep thinking about going back to my curve. Hopefully they will finally release an update to fix some of the bugs.

StirCrazy 03-27-2009 02:52 AM

I got mine the day they finaly released here after the delays. I realy like it and am totaly happy with it. sure there are some I wish it did..... but your going to get that with any phone. I haven't seen any of the bugs other people report, and after some tweeking with the settings it can keep up to my two finger typing. GPS works awsome, used it to find places in kamloops the other weekend. other than that I uses it mostly for e-mail, then as a phone. it is simple to set up bluetooth on.

BC Mosaic 03-27-2009 04:09 AM

I got one a few weeks ago and am still getting used to it. I haven't noticed any glitches either except that when I speak on the phone my cheek tends to hit the mute button and apparently there'll be updates to remedy that as well as whatever other issues people may have. iPhone has had 6-8 updates already so give it a bit of time. Some compare the iPhone to a "toy" while the BB Storm is considered a "tool". Whatever; it depends on the user really.

Hmm I wonder if its just mine then. Mine has a long delay when the phone rings and I try to answer it and it stalls a lot the little clock is on my screen at least 10 times a day! The mute thing took a wile to get used to but I don't do it anymore.

GreenSpottedPuffer 03-27-2009 04:19 AM

My old Blackberry just passed away (run over by a car) lol and I am looking to get this one too. I can't say I liked it today when I was looking at it though. I don't know why...

And yeah, this is real helpful to you

workn2hard2day 03-27-2009 04:23 AM

This is a flashback to my crazy cell adventure that you got to take part in. All I can say is becareful of the # you get

ha ha...no worries..I HAVE looked at it over and over and over and just wanted to ask feedback from people that do use them...and any bugs or good things to say!

BC Mosaic 03-27-2009 04:24 AM

Long delays are a common complaint apparently. Updates are in the works to fix that. That clock comes on only when I plug it in for a charge at night. Maybe you need to adjust your settings?

I guess just like the SW biz, you have to have a bit of patience (so my daughter tells me. She has a part time job with Telus).

sorry it's not the main clock it's the little I'm thinking clock.

foreverfortune 03-27-2009 04:26 AM

i have one, i dont mind it, although my wife cant stand it and prefers her bold. the storm may need a few updates as the os is still glitchy and sometimes laggy. there are a few leaks and beta os releases that helps a bit but still waiting on an official release.

andestang 03-27-2009 04:33 AM

I bought one for my wife and she seems to think its Ok, still misses her Treo though. Once in awhile when you highlight something and then click it to open it doesn't seem to respond. Also find when you turn/rotate it for going from straight up to panaramic veiw or vice-vera you have to give it a shake to change.

Chin_Lee 03-27-2009 04:52 AM

I've good contact with Roger's cell phone techs and they say the Storm still needs a bit of work to get it to the Enterprise level. They recommend the Bold 9000 from the Blackberry line. You just can't replace the full QWERTY keyboard with touchpads especially if you have fat fingers.

what do you mean by a delay when the phone rings? I did have one but I found out that it was caused by me having vibrate on in adition to the ring tone. having said this my el cheepo motorola I had befor this was worse for a delay and that was with the default ring tone. I only got to answer 5% of my calls befor they went to voicemail with my motorola.

I think I have had 1 stall in 3 months now, I did have an issue where it was rejecting my sim card but they turned out to be a setting and the weird enviorment I was using it in.

and that would be because rodgers doesn't have the storm but they do have the bold. kinda makes sence for them to say "buy what we have"

I used to thing like you about the keyboard, I do have fat fingers, and I can type just fine on the touch "querty" keyboard, when I did have problems on the curve. I think the fact that you get a larger keyboard is what makes it better than any blackberry keyboard yet.

yes there are a few issues that some people have, the pproblem is they are mostly from Verision release which was 3 software upgrades befor telus release it in canada. at any rate it is still light years ahead of the I-Phone when it was released.

Steve

subman 03-27-2009 02:02 PM

I do have it on Vibrate and ring so i guess that causes a delay, but I have always used that feature on every phone I've had and never had it stall. Don't get me wrong I really want to love this phone but I think they rushed it out (even after the many delays) and it needs a serious firmware upgrade to come close to the Iphone (yes I know the many firmware updates and even a hardware update the Iphone has had). I guess I expected more from RIM.

The storm will work on Rogers but Rogers doesn't sell it so of course the bold is the king for them.

michika 03-27-2009 03:02 PM

It badly needs a software update. I've had mine since December 23rd and my ongoing list of issues are:

- Lock button is unreliable, constantly unlocks or locks itself
- Browser is glitchy and slow
- It eats contacts
- There is a huge delay in clicking the answer the phone and actually taking the call
- My emails come in chunks about 6 times a day, not as emails come in (potentially a Telus issue though)
- The screen randomly freezes halfway between the lock and unlocked screen
- You have to shake the unit when you change the orientation to get it change the corresponding screen
- Mine frequently blacks out, or goes into sleep mode WHILE I'm typing.
- The auto-correct/fill-in frequently fills in when I say no, or fills in with something that I don't choose.
- Battery life is EXTREMELY poor. I am lucky to get one full day out of my phone, and a typical day is checking emails and making 20-15 calls, and sending approximately 50-100 texts or emails.

All in all I think the hardware is decent, but the software requires some serious fixes. I have been waiting and waiting on Telus for a software update that they keep telling me is "on the way". Honestly though, if by April 15 there is no firm date for a software update, I'll be dumping my phone, either for another blackberry, or to jump ship to Rogers and their iPhone.

Hardware 8/10
Software 2.9/10
Customer service on the phone 1/10 (Because it seems like nobody at Telus knows anything about this phone)
Customer service at the kiosk (10/10) My cell guy is really on top of things and keeps me updated on a weekly basis.

I'd totally advise against the Storm at this moment, just because of the software stuff.

bullit67 03-27-2009 03:09 PM

I have played with one at work but I like the iphone better but it depends what it will be used for

ok Sarah... you need to expand on this now.

workn2hard2day 03-27-2009 04:05 PM

LOL, I expand. I got an LG Venus phone form Future shop on a Telus Contract. I did not get any extra services.

Within the first few hours it said I had a message (Hmmm, weird didnt sign up for this).

So I called support and they told me I didn't have voice mail, couldn't possibly be happening. LOL Over the next couple days the messages kept appearing and I kept calling Telus. Finally I pressed "1" button to get my messages LOL and it dial Sarah's house. (I used reverse 411 to figure out who's # it was, I just happened to know sarah.) Her poor daughter thought I was some sort of weird stalker calling her and hanging up.

Turns out the # telus assigned me was Sarah old cell #.

If I hadn't recognized the # and called her at home to explain Telus would still be trying to figure this out.

p.s. Got the phone in Sept 8 (used it for maybe 1 1/2hrs total) the battery is dead now & the LCD face is toast. So pretty much the whole experience was a nightmare.

Ron99 03-27-2009 05:16 PM

Well, I know I am biased but the iPhone really is head and shoulders above anything else. I think the reason for this is instead of trying to make a phone Apple made a mobile computing platform that happens to have a phone built into it. Probably less than 5% of the use of mine is for making calls. There are tens of thousands of different applications you can download for free or purchase so you can add virtually any functionality to it you want. It plays your music, movies and TV shows (great for keeping small children happy in a long check out line or when stuck in traffic). It really is a small computer in your pocket with mobile internet access anywhere you have wifi or a cell signal.

And with iPhone OS 3.0 coming out in June they are making huge improvements to it. Also, if you aren't in a huge hurry there will likely be a better and faster iPhone released this summer as well. Even if you need it now the OS 3.0 will be a free upgrade for existing iPhones.

So unless you are on some corporate system that only supports Blackberry get an iPhone. It is far superior to the others and Apple releases frequent updates to make it even better. Check reviews online as well and I think you will see that the reviews generally put the iPhone on top and everybody else is playing catch up with it. If it is for personal use rather than corporate use you won't regret buying it.

But of course, as soon as they release something which may be almost as good Apple has jumped ahead of them with their own improvements :-)

bullit67 03-27-2009 07:49 PM

I would agree with Ron99 I have had my iphone for 3 weeks now and cant put it down endless uses dont get sucked into a high GB. data plan I use mine alot and have not even come close to the 500 MB on my plan this is due to the Wifi. That is a plus over the blackberry. you will be amazed how many places you can go and find free Wifi.

Chaloupa 03-27-2009 10:15 PM

Went to my Bell dealer today to possibly buy a Storm. He wouldn't sell it to me....at this point he feels that there are so many glitches that he will not sell them.....he has one...but won't sell it unless I am bound and determined...he uses one and is eagerly awaiting the upgrade hopefully on April 1....WOW, he was passionate about why NOT to get it (and was losing the sale right then and there) and advised me to wait until the possible upgrade and then to consider it as long as the upgrade fixes the glitches. He did say that iPhone is a better mobile computing device by far and that it is the better of the 2 for that.....but that if you want to do multiple things at once the Storm/Blackberry is the King.

So, I thank everyone for their honest feedback, and this guy at Bell....I will be waiting to see if the upgrade is out for the Storm...and may be looking at Rogers for the iPhone now. It does seem to win over in debate.....*sigh* so many choices...I remember when you had a couple of phones to choose from and they were LARGE phones...now your phone can do almost anything but there's 80 different ones to choose from!!!!! And NO for all you youngins we aren't talking THAT many years ago...I am UNDER 40 still.

Ron99 03-28-2009 02:22 AM

Hmmm...not sure what he means by doing multiple things at once. I don't think any of these phones really have the power to multitask effectively. You can talk on the phone and do other things on the iphone. Talk on a headset or speakerphone and take notes or check google maps etc.

almost sounds like you got a lemmon, I would see if you can exchange it for a different one. The e-mail thing isn't telus as I get them all friggin day:neutral: and I usaly go about 3 days between charging but normaly I charge it every night as I use it as an alarm clock in the bedside charging stand you can buy. by your usage I think you would be lucky to get more than a day out of any phone, and I thought I was bad LOL

I have a friend who has both the newer i-phone and a blackberry storm. he likes both but for different reasons. he likes the i-phone for some of the features with the multi media (but admits as he uses the storm more it is getting closer) and the I-phone does have that cool zoom thing with your fingers. but as a phone the i-phone loses out big time to the storm, also for e-mail and featurs like that the storm wins hands down.

I will admidt I was bummed about not having wireless capability on mmy storm as that was one of the things I wanted, but Telus does have a good network so it isn't so bad. (for the record I do hate telus and if shaw ever gets into the cell market I will switch)

Steve

PoonTang 03-28-2009 03:10 AM

Sarah
I too have been looking around lately for a new phone. Basically the storm is a good phone attached to a bad computer. An Iphone is a good computer attached to a bad phone. So take your pick. If you want a Iphone then your stuck with Rogers which is not recomended. You could wait until Bell comes out with the iphone or Telus switches over to thier new system or or or.... or simply get a unlocked iphone for the bell network. I think Bell now has the new Palm Treo too. Have a look at www.howardforums.com there is lots of info there on all of the different phones and carriers.

Ron99 03-28-2009 03:22 AM

PoonTang - Unfortunately, you won't be able to use an unlocked iPhone with Bell as there network is still CDMA and the iphone is a GSM phone. However, both Telus and Bell are rolling out GSM later this year as they want to capitalize on Olympic visitor roaming. But, you can also get an unlocked iPhone and use it with Rogers or Fido without a contract. That is what I have so I can switch to another GSM carrier when available.

Stircrazy - I've never had problem with the phone part of the iPhone. I'm curious to know what is better with the Storm as a phone? The email app in the current iPhone OS is a little weak but not that bad. They are making major improvements in OS 3.0 which will be released in June.

Borderjumper 03-28-2009 04:04 AM

Sarah, Art has an Iphone and loves it. Next time your down our way stop by and check it out. He's had it since Christmas and hasnt had any issues or problems

pterfloth 03-28-2009 05:25 AM

I have had an iPhone 3G since the first week they came out. It is an outstanding phone and great mobile computer. The 3.0 software upgrade previewed recently (free) will allow multitasking and address some current short-comings, eg. cut and paste.

Be aware that it is highly likely a new iPhone will be released in June, so you may want to hold off.

I agree, I think you may have a lemon... I have none of the issues you have..

Chaloupa 04-03-2009 09:42 PM

Well....I went with an iPhone. I want to use it for browsing and email quite a bit...and it just seemed better...especially after I tried the Blackberry Storm....and I gotta say, I've had it for a few days and LOVE IT! The iPhone works well for me and what I want out of it!

Thank you to everyone who responded.....I will update this if at some point I hate this phone!

michika 04-03-2009 11:26 PM

I'm jealous of your new iPhone.

I was told that its a firmware issue, and a lot of people downtown here are having issues. A lot of people have returned their Storms for an alternate phone. I don't have the option of returning mine though because I'm not on a corporate plant. However that is a totally different rant.

I actually played with a Storm prior to purchase and it glitched on me several times while playing with it....

PoonTang 04-04-2009 02:49 AM

Hey great! I'm jealous too. Its what I want to get but i am really hesitant to sign on with Rogers so I'm going to wait. And the cost too :(

StirCrazy 04-04-2009 03:58 AM

on a lighter note, there is suposed to be an update for the storm comming out this month.

Steve...I heard the same thing with the Storm....was told the update would be out on the 1st but it wasn't....it is supposed to really really help the Storm perform properly...have to wait and see....

Darren...I was also hesitant to sign up with Rogers...but am really really happy with the reception so far...

Ahh, I was told the middle to end of April. I don't listen to the people who work in the cell phone stores anymore as they don't seam to know anything about phones they don't own. every phone I have had for the last 15 years they have told me it does stuff it doesn't.

I see you played with the demo modle and didn't like it. Neither did I, the demmos the stores have are older modles befor the original update so they could get them into the store for people to look at. the differance between the demo and the one I got are night and day.

have fun with the iphon, it is better for music and movies than the storm, but not as good for a phone or e-mail. Does it have built in Wi-Fi? that will be good for when you are at starbucks and stuff, you can surf faster that way.

Steve

Chaloupa 04-04-2009 05:09 PM

The one I demo'd was the guys new one that owns the store....it's brand new so is the latest version. I wish it had performed better as it's a beautiful phone!

yep built in wifi.......email works beautifully so far...surfing the net is awesome, and the ipod it has is fantastic. Love some of the apps like Shazam...for finding the name of a song playing...works amazingly!

bullit67 04-04-2009 08:35 PM

Loving the iphone cant put it down it is addictive as crack I never uesd text messaging untill I got this phone now I cant stop (help me) the apps store is unreal I still havent gone through all the apps There really is an app. for every one from games to really useful stuff to completely useless stuff you could run up quite the bill in the apps store and that not to mention all the music avalible on itunes Now I want a new deck fro my car so I can use the bluetooth and a USB port to play all the music.
