Posting For Fun/ Dont take me serious

Lets see what we have in common with the underclass citizens known as dope growers.

testing for chemicals reef+growop
knowledge of timers reef+growop
High quality lighting reef+growop
Trading with friends reef+growop
Desire for highend product reef+growop
High Powerbill reef+growop
Adding additives reef+growop
Dealing with high humidity reef+growop
Dealing with odor reef(skimmer)+growop

The only big differences i see is growops earn big amounts of money
and reefers spend large amounts of money.
Yet a reefer to either class is something completely different.
You guys in BC know what i mean eh?
Not talking about those truckers and their refrigeration units either.
This is not a serious post just meant for fun.

Leah 03-08-2009 02:34 PM

Very good, you have got a good sense of humor. I agree we do spend large amounts
of money. You forgot one other thing maybe, the most important. That we truly are
addicts too. LOL Love this post, tee hee. Just to Funny!

I once had a teenager try to break into my basement. He apparently thought it was a grow op (funny, since I keep the windows unobstructed so people see that it's NOT!)

Must have been a surprise for him when he finally realized it was my reptile room. The first animal you see when you look in is a 6 foot kingsnake.

I bet that was a shock

Yep, I've thought of those comparisons before too.

I've had guests at a party next door ask me if I would sell them "some". I said sure, I've got a bunch of milli to get rid of...they didn't get it :)

HAHAHA! So true!

Its not funny though when the police show up at your door at 6 am to bust you for a grow op and even when they realize you just have a large reef tank, they are still total dicks.

EmilyB 03-08-2009 11:48 PM

Or catching the swat team in the alley behind your house, and being told, "don't mind us, we're um, just practising...."

LOL...seriously? Did this happen?

I was ****ed when the cops came to my door that morning based on the fact that my neighbors "knew I was growing it" and I had a slightly high electric bill...if they had sent a swat team with no evidence, I would have really lost it. :D

LOL...my neighbors had even told the police I had offered to sell to them!

lolz, i hope i dont have any experiences like that.
or maybe i do, just so i can show Calgary cops how bad they suck:lol:

what wrassehole neighbors. I bet one day you said you could help them get into the hobby and they just took it the wrong way

brizzo 03-09-2009 02:16 AM

Light moving systems = reef + growop
Trimming our products = reef + growop
Pumps and plumbing = reef + growop(hydroponics) -- (air bubblers too for hydroponics!)
Chillers = reef + growop
Both smell good = reef + growop (who doesn't like the smell of sps!)
Polyp extension = reef + growop (polyps vs red hairs)
Heat venting/fans = reef + growop

Now I'm just going to seem like a big stoner, LOL

bullit67 03-09-2009 02:39 AM

This is too funny when my cousin and I were building my sump room he said if some one didnt know any better they would think we were building a grow opp

dry wall coming out lots of framing big fans and wiring going in :)

wolf_bluejay 03-09-2009 04:09 AM

growop stores

I laughed at this, and the realized that a good portion of the stuff I need I by at a "hydroponic" store in town. Hey, $9 for a 48" HOT5 10K bulb , halide for cheap and even had kalk, some calcium chloride for a bit, bulkheads, and float valves.

So, now I have a bit of fear -- I shop at a grow op store, have really high power bills and funny coloured bright lights can be seem through my living room windows. Of course, my luck would be that the cops show up seconds after I spill kalk all over the floor.

Some friends of mine are into live roleplaying and, hence, have many props for such.

Including plastic guns.

One guy was in a hurry one day and needed the bag his props were in, so he dumped them onto the coffee table and ran out the door. He was in the basement suite of an apartment building with the blinds open.

The guy came home to the SWAT team playing "cops and robbers" in his kitchen. They were cool about it and gave him some tips to let people (mostly police) see that they are very obviously NOT weapons. It made for an interesting story, though!

Treebeard 03-09-2009 02:47 PM

Whatever! How many cops do you actually know personally? How do you know that there are no cops on Canreef? BTW, what's your address??

Leah 03-09-2009 02:55 PM

OPPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!, Maybe putting ones foot into ones mouth is yummy! LOL

I personally know about a dozen as friends, and others through those.

Most of them are good folks, but even some of them have admitted to being jerks just because they had a bad day. And then there are the ones that are jerks just because they can.... but they're not generally very popular even with their own.....

Duffer2 03-09-2009 03:18 PM

Shortly after I moved into my house I had some local law enforcement knock on my door and ask about the lights in the basement and my power bill(my fish room has 1 large basement window). I pointed to the large fish tank behind me, and they still didn't believe me. After a short tour of the house, they said they put a BOLD note on my file stating they had investigated a complaint and what they found. They told me after that the only reason they didn't come busting in the front door is because 'no actual large scale criminal would be so stupid as to not cover the windows or attempt to hide their operation'.

Nice guys, but when I answered the door, 2 of them had their guns out, but pointed down.

randallino 03-09-2009 04:37 PM

First thing I did when I was setting up my system was to let the neighbours know what I was up to. I'm not so worried about the cops.... petty criminals and gangs looking for a easy mark. Oh one more thing I had a family member who was a cop, and he told me that the cops watch and record people going in and out of the stores that supply grow ops. FYI

Who cares? I know more lawyers than cops and trust me, I would be more afraid of lawyers if I were a cop than a law abiding citizen who ****ed off a few cops on a fish forum. If thats what you were insinuating.

Similar to my situation but no guns out. They really didn't believe me. My lawyer (who is my cousin actually) was ****ed that I said go ahead and look around. He wanted to go to court and looking back I wish I had shut up.

We did file a complaint though since the idiots wouldn't even let my fiance get dressed properly and made us stand by the front door. Guilty until proven innocent...thats how it works with the cops right?

Aquattro 03-09-2009 06:07 PM

Hi all, there are some funny stories in this thread, but please cut out the bashing of people based on profession. This can easily stay on the light and funny side.
As a taxpayer, parent and rental property owner, I'm happy that cops check out this kind of stuff. Yes, they've beento my door about the lights, we all had a good laugh about it.

Treebeard 03-09-2009 06:14 PM

The guy made a derogatory generalization about all cops being.....you get the drift! And I mentioned that Canreef members may also be cops. I have a problem with someone insulting Canreef members based on their chosen profession, and yes I do support law enforcement. They are no worse than any other professionals. I have met doctors that would make better executioners.

It's akin to me saying all guys with saltwater tanks and long hair beat their wives....totally unfounded!
BTW, I found the original post humorous!

Contrary to popular belief, Hydro does not report excessive usage to the police, use as much power as you want, as long as you pay the bill, Hydro doesnt care what you are doing. The only contact Hydro has with police is after they bust you and the cops call Hydro to pull the meter if there are electrical issues.

I was wondering about this too when I first started reading this thread. I thought there was a privacy act in play that protected customer's consumption use. And hydro would report to the rcmp if they noticed more power being consumed than metered (meter bypass).

Interesting. From what I have heard they now do report spikes in usage though. That was on the news though, so maybe not true.
