Our latest addition - Red Rhizo Rhizotrochus

We are ecstatic over this interesting coral, and new addition to our tank.

Originally from the coast of Japan, found in deeper cool waters, very personable and fun to interact with.

It's gorgeous!

....

And it reminds me of salmon sushi. I'm hungry.

Delphinus 03-07-2009 05:25 PM

Looks a bit like a giant dendro. Neat.

I can't say that I think I've heard "personable" used to describe a coral before.

Kind of cool to see it open its mouth and wait for you to notice and give it a Silver Side which it greedily takes from your fingers by closing its mouth on the fish and slowly working it in with its tentacles. Bit of a slow process, but it wouldn't be quite as fun if it was over too quick. We really have to get a life.

wow

Wow, fantastic peice!!! Always wanted one but could never justify spending that much. If you don't mind me asking where did you come by it and appx how much did you pay?

I got it from Dan at Aquatic Addictions. I did a little work for him so he gave me a great deal. He had more there last week. I would give him a call to see at 1-604-625-2182. My wife and I have always found Dan and Nikki to be very fair on the Corals and I know that right now they are chocked full with stock. Hope this helps.

Very nice piece, how often do you feed it?

reef_junkies 03-07-2009 07:07 PM

From what we've read and been told, it seems that every 2 or 3 days is fine. So far "Seymour" (Little Shop Of Horrors) is doing fine with every second day depending on the size of fish. On the off chance that we are the only people to name a Coral........please ignore this post, it never happened.

Leah 03-07-2009 09:36 PM

Wow, Seymour! What temp do you keep him at? Very, Very, Beautiful. And I second
the jealousy vote!

Ron99 03-07-2009 09:45 PM

I saw these at Aquatic Addictions. Really neat but $250!!!! Ouch.

reef_junkies 03-07-2009 10:03 PM

At the risk of opening up the debate over Digital vs Mercury (we trust mercury) " thermometers not fillings" Digital reads 80.8F and merc reads 78ish. We have "Seymour" at about 20 inches from lighting which is 2 x 175 MH
and 2 x 55 Actinics in a 92g corner bow front with 2 (experimenting with 3) Korilia 4s.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing? How can a coral be "Personable"? Not trying to start anything, just can't wrap my mind around this description.

We are happy to see you like your addition Darrin (now whos high maitenance? lol) You picked a great name! But I think we should talk about this naming of corals....how are you going to remember the corals names AND the kids? lol

Dan

reef_junkies 03-08-2009 04:32 PM

We just did a rough count this morning. So far it goes like this 5 permanent kids, 2 present foster babies, 21 babies come and gone, 2 dogs and I dont know how many corals (only one with a name "honest") .......Stay tuned for Mental Break Down for Two.

Leah 03-08-2009 04:44 PM

I might be tempted to give away my kid.......But oh, no, no, no, not my fish!
Maybe I could trade. Kid for ? I'am open to the possibility at least. Sounds like
your house is not quite full yet! I have two extra dogs, a cat, 1 mouse and a
babysitter if your interested. I will even pay to ship.
