Best sand?

Other than Southdown playsand, what's the next best brand of sand to get?

Mak 06-08-2003 11:50 PM

Caribsea Argonite sugar sized sand seems to be the stuff.

Canadian Man 06-09-2003 03:52 AM

SWC sand which is the same as the previously mentioned.

Fishster 06-09-2003 01:12 PM

Southdown is also the exact same as previously mentioned. There are a lot of myths reguarding aragonite sand. The truth is that all of it available to us in North America comes from the very same deposit.

Also agree on the SWC sand. Decent price and me thinks its available out there.

SWC sand is not identical to Cairbsea. I used 5 bags of each in my tank. having said that I actualy prefered the SWC sand over the Cairbsea stuff.

Duh

SWC has better mix up of grain sizes. It's not uniform like "sugar" but it is very fine non the less.

Sometimes group orders come along on this board. That's where i got my 10 bags last year.

kris 06-13-2003 11:49 PM

i might be willing to do one again...... ut it may cost every one a little more then it did last time.

Mak 06-13-2003 11:52 PM

Hmmm I was told the SWC was the exact same as the Caribsea. So if they are indeed different, put me down for the SWC sand.

StirCrazy 06-14-2003 12:01 AM

if no one is in a hurry for sand and can wait till september/october for it I might concider bringing a bunch over as I will need a lot for a new tank.

I checked this Bomix sand on the web and it says it is pool filtration sand. do you think it would be the same type of sand from east coast to west coast?
IE: Home Depot carries southdown sand in the east but it does not carry it in the west.
