How is Oceanic doing so far?

Just want to know how I am doing so far as Oceanic Corals. I have been working very hard to try and do things a little different and go above and beyond in regards to the livestock that I provide. Hope everyone realizes that the recent inventory has taken lots of work to track down, lots of paperwork and phone calls! Any feedback good or bad is appreciated.

All of this so far has been a very steep learning curve but I think I am slowly getting there!

Thanks for all of those that are already regular customers!

I think you're doing very well at bringing in things we haven't had access to and have drooled over on the US sites. I am impressed to say the least!

Trigger Man 02-26-2009 07:39 PM

From the pics you post it looks like you are getting great healthy looking stuff in. I have seen stuff that were almost impossible to find in the past.

digital-audiophile 02-26-2009 07:43 PM

Ian, I think you are doing great.

1.)Your website is easy to use.
2.) Your items are rare
3.)Your communication is top notch
4.) Your packing and shipping is awesome
5.) Your frags are healthy and just as described.

KPG007 02-26-2009 07:46 PM

I love the beautiful pieces you've been able to bring in - good job!

I can live without the American style pricing on these (I assume) small frags though. Still, I'm happy to have a chance to own some of these brightly coloured beauties.

Thanks very much! I was thinking number 3 could be better; however, I think everyone would be shocked at the amount of PM's and emails I get on a daily basis!! :surprise:

I appreciate the good feedback!

Thanks! I too could live without the American pricing too! Unfortunately I would not be worthwhile to me (Oceanic) to price them any less considering what I pay for them and the time and paperwork it takes just to land them here.

It seems like the rarity of the Coral dictates the price for the end consumer like yourself and the retailer like me.

hi i sent you a pm about being on the waiting list for some corals please let me know if am
on it :)

I have just PM'd you. Thanks! Oceanic.

:first: :thumb: Awesome! Everything I ordered from you in the past arrived in excellent health and packaged very well. Communication was also excellent. I love the uniqueness in what you carry but I do hope that the small rare frags won't cost too much.

Thanks! Again, the rare frags are priced right in line with everyone else. I don't mind doing the work to get the hard to find inventory; however, I need make sure it is also worthwhile for Oceanic. Once I have some big mother colonies I might be able to do something with the price.

I am very happy with what I picked up last week, not so happy with the $3000 damage to my car on the return trip home (got rear ended in Surrey) wait that don't sound right! what I mean was I was stopped and my car got run into  Was nice to meet you, will do buisiness with again (next time fly it up, less aggravation than dealing with ICBC)

marie 02-26-2009 09:44 PM

I have only 1 complaint, I still don't have any vanderbilts chromis

Yeah, You don't want to get rear-ended in Surrey. For that matter You don't want to get rear-ended anywhere!

Lance 02-26-2009 10:09 PM

I too am happy with my order. Corals are healthy and doing well. Price was pretty good also.

whatcaneyedo 02-27-2009 12:16 AM

I'd like to hear back from you about the order I placed that is suppose to be shipped tomorrow  That would improve my overall experience so far. I'll send you another PM.

PM'd!!

Myka 02-28-2009 03:30 PM

I just realised your location...I thought you were in Ontario! Now I am much more interested. :D

Having never placed an order with you, the only comment I have is that I notice you have a colony category, but no LPS in it. Being a LPS fanatic, I'm not particularly interested in the rare SPS you're getting in, but would love to see some nicely colored LPS colonies - rare or not. Maybe I'm not your target market, but that's what I'm looking for. ;)

Here are a few I'm currently searching for:
~ Colored Cynarina
~ Any LPS in blue or purple
~ Pink or white polyped pipe organ
~ Blastos in all colors (except solid red, have those already)
~ Neon Green Candy Cane
~ Green Torch (with or without white tips)
~ Various brightly colored brain corals (Colpophyllia, Cyphastrea, Diploastrea, Diploria, Favia, Favites, Leptastrea, Manicina, Montastrea, Oulophyllia, Platygyra)
~ "Grapes or Wrath" Platygyra (I can provide photo if needed)

Myka,

How about some nice Acanthastrae. Maximas? I've got them in stock right now and coloring up beautifully.

Cheers,

Ian

Is it possible to stop by and see what you have first hand? That would defianetly be a bonus.

Sam1969 02-28-2009 04:22 PM

Website is nice, however I would like to see more information about the particular frags, IE type of lighting required, flow ect...

Oh ya, I forgot you have clams! Actually I'm looking for an ULTRA Derasa and/or Squamosa...maybe a Crocea when I update lighting. I'm not particularly interested in Acans at this time...never really had much of an interest there.

I have updated all the frags with a quick stats box, what do you think? I appreciate the feedback and will make the changes if it benefits you.

The livestock I received were all very healthy and full opened within hours.

Myka 03-01-2009 03:48 AM

Those Quick Stats are a good addition. I really like how you include the origin of the corals. For the cultured ones, it would be great if you could also list the origin of the mother colony.

Good! I am glad this is helpful, I will also include the original origin of the mother colony as well.

Thank you for showing me your shop today, Ian. Your livestock are nice and healthy. Can't wait when you get more nice stuff.

OceanicCorals-Ian- 03-05-2009 05:38 PM

In light of a certain thread in regards to customer service, I welcome any more input here for anyone that wishes to post their opinion. That thread is now closed.

I also welcome any other pointers that retailer like me can take to heart so we can make buying livestock an even better experience.

whatcaneyedo 03-05-2009 11:29 PM

Just one recommendation from me. Could you invest in some real coolers for shipping livestock? Everything went fine with my order but I'm pretty sure that the shipping bags would have stayed warmer in a real cooler. I bet you could buy used ones from other businesses in the area for dirt cheep.

Excellent, this is what I am looking for. I am actually trying to source some of those Uline styro shipping boxes at a decent price, these kinds of boxes are so expensive!

I will see what I can come up with.

I just had my first experience with Oceanic Coral and Ian and I have to say everything was great. I went out to his location to pick up my frags last night and it is a very nice set up. Ian was really helpful and very patient as I took up some of his evening peering into all the tanks. The zoa frags I received were much larger with many more polyps than I expected for the price. I will definitely be a repeat customer.

Also, thank you Ian for the extra little freebies!
