Vancouver Gloating - My flowers are coming up!

After living most of my life in Ontario, and working many a cold, blizzard filled winters as a linesman for Bell Canada, I never get over the fact that my flowers start budding at this time of year!

Hears a few more bonuses about living southwestern BC.
1. I rarely ever wear a winter coat anymore.
2. I can handle the rain much better than snow.
3. The people are very laid back and super nice.

I LOVE BC!

Actually everything is about 6 weeks late this year, my snowdrops are only just starting to flower now along with a few early crocus and I had to wear a winter coat often enough for it to get dirty

digital-audiophile 02-22-2009 05:21 PM

Bah!!!

I get enough of this from my parents :p The retired out in Quallicum Beach a couple years back and they love to remind my of how the roses are blooming while I am still dealing with snow and ice :twised:

Yup, I agree. It was definitely a colder winter than previous ones.

Delphinus 02-22-2009 05:25 PM

Hahahaha, yeah yeah.

Maybe one day I can come be a gloater too. :)

I was working with a company who had to move a control room from Burnaby to Edmonton a few years back. You should have heard the complaining. "My roses! My previous award winning roses!! I can't grow roses in Edmonton wahhhh!!!" And all the while I was thinking .. you know, Edmonton actually has a better growing season for gardeners than Calgary ... so quitcher'whinin'-cuz-it-could-be-worse-you-could-have-been-transferred-to-Calgary!!

I think it would be pretty hard though to be forced into a move to Alberta to keep your job. So I did kinda feel bad for the dudes.

I guess we .. um .. don't have a sales tax? But I'll take a PST for spring in February that's fershure.

Leah 02-22-2009 05:29 PM

I got grass!

Norstar 02-22-2009 05:45 PM

Actually, this is the first year my front lawn turned yellow!

noirsphynx 02-22-2009 05:47 PM

I think I need to move to BC!

rocketlily 02-22-2009 05:53 PM

It may be cold here in Edmonton, but the sun is shinning.

BlueAbyss 02-22-2009 05:58 PM

Aye Aye. Give me blistering cold and sunshine over grey and wet. At least when it's cold I can put on some woolen socks and a sweater. When it gets grey here it is really depressing.

The sun has been shining all week here too

But your right it is cold, I bet the temp dipped down to -2 the other night

levi1803 02-22-2009 06:11 PM

My zoa's are blooming in my tank

Lydia 02-22-2009 06:13 PM

My flowers are growing in my garden, too! All I gotta do is dig down under a few inches of snow, and then a couple of inches of frozen ground, and voila! You can see them growing :)

mark 02-22-2009 06:23 PM

hope you're happy gloating, won't help my day. Guess I'll just consol myself thinking at least Edm didn't get the Olympics and have another debt

Up here in the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range there is 1 1/2 - 2 feet of snow. The ice roads are still holding up. It's only been -10 or so for the last couple days, but last week was -25. No signs of spring here!!!

I for one despise Vancouver. I have visited many many times, and lived there for awhile a couple years ago. I think it's a cheap, ugly, drug infested, cement, wannabe high-class disco city. I think the perfect theme movies to go along with Vancouver would be Trainspotting and Studio 54. Sure it has it's perks, but it's seriously the most off-putting city I've ever been to. Calgary is better, and that is not saying much at all!

You've obviously never been to Toronto.

Whoa Whoa. Whoa! I may not like the grey winters but I lived in a few Canadian cities and Vancouver is the best. I have lived in:

Montreal - Lots of snow and culture.
Toronto - Boring concrete.
Halifax - Friendly and fun.
Calgary - Fine as a kid, would not want to live there as an adult. Too conservative for my tastes.
Vancouver - Excellent outdoors possibilities. Nice climate other than the grey winters.

Leah 02-23-2009 12:46 AM

It's not about where you live, but how you live it and frankly we all sit and stare into
a large and for some even larger fish bowls. So what do we know. And how many of us
actually name them, huh!

BC564 02-25-2009 09:34 PM

I couldnt handle the rain....sunshine and cold...no problem.....chinooks during the winter....and maybe 3 weeks of unbearable cold.......but its always sunny

my2rotties 02-25-2009 09:36 PM

Well I went hiking and the trails have packed with snow... They are a couple of inches higher then normal and I ddn't duck down far enough going under a usual tree I go under... I was flat on my back and have a bump on my noggen... it's only my head so I'll be okay since there's not much in there anyways.

Keep it up.

Go ahead.

Winter hears you. Winter will find you.

And you'll have to find that coat that's stuffed in some random dusty closet. And the you'll have to wear it.

dsaundry 02-26-2009 05:04 AM

Love the snow...brings me more business, which means more money for the addiction....

Norstar 02-26-2009 02:35 PM

Well karma has had a good laugh - it snowed again last night. At least it will be gone by tomorrow!

leezard 02-26-2009 02:36 PM
