2012 The end of the world...
A friend called me this morning and we were chatting about politics and such. I mention humanity is pretty much destined to destroy itself, and my friend mentioned it is supposed to happen in 2012. I laughed about it since how many times have we heard this already.
So I am home alone this fine Saturday night and decided to look into it... I was surprised about all the info there is and much of it is not alarmist... So here are some tidbits I found because I am a loser and have nothing better to do on a Saturday night. Mayan Calendar Ends on December 21, 2012 Mayans were the first people to predict the end of the world in 2012. They were notorious for their highly accurate astrological tools they built out of stone and for bloodthirsty sacrificing of Virgins. Mayans calculated the length of the lunar moon thousands of years ago - according to their calculations, the lunar moon lasts 329.53020 days - which is only inaccurate by 34 seconds. If Mayans were able to calculate the length of Lunar Cycle so accurately thousands of years ago, is it possible that their calculation of the end of the world - which according to their calculations falls on December 21, 2012 - is also that accurate? Sun Storms Reach its Peak in 2012 Scientists studying solar energy and the behavior of the Sun have noticed that the Sun Storms have been radiating the Earth with so much deadly energy, many of human made satellites and power grids have been knocked out as results of this radiation. The calculations suggest that this solar activity is going to get worse and its peak will be reached in 2012. Religions, Bible, I-Ching, Hindu - All Warn Us About 2012 It’s not only scientists that are coming with warnings regarding the end of the world, but also religions of all sorts say the same. Western book of all books – Bible, representing Christians reveals that the battle between Goon and Evil “Armageddon” has been set to take place in 2012. Chinese Book of Changes also known as I-Ching also mentions 2012 as the year of the end of the world. Hindu teachings suggest the very same thing. Yellowstone Volcano Will Erupt in 2012 The Old Faithful geyser in Yellowstone National Park in the US is world famous for its thermal springs which sit right above the world’s largest volcano. The pattern of erupting the Yellowstone volcano has been following repeats itself every 650 thousand years. For whatever reason, the volcano is past overdue with its eruption, but the pressure in its depths is building and the geologists predict that it will go off in 2012 with a massive bang, filling the sky with thick layers of ash, potentially blocking the sun and throwing the Earth into a 15 000 years long freezing winter. Poles Will Shift in 2012 The Earth is protected from Sun’s radiations by the magnetic field that surrounds it. The North and the South poles of the Earth Swap places every 750 thousands years or so. When pole swapping occurs, the magnetic field disappears often for as long as hundred years exposing the planet to the radiation of the Sun that is so strong it will burn the skin crisp in seconds. Right now, the pole swapping is overdue about 30 000 years from its usual pattern. However, scientists are noticing that the poles are starting to shift faster and faster, moving about 25 kilometers every year, which is much faster than has ever been recorded before. This is likely a sign of the pole shift coming very, very soon. Scientists are estimating that the pole shift will take place in… you guessed it – year 2012. So what do you all think... maybe I won't do my taxes for the next few years... |

I think i better "PARTY HEARTY" while I can. And get my ass to Africa to see the Serengeti like I've been promising myself for the last 5 years. |
Excellent, I just bought a new house, guess I'll get to cheat the bank out of 27 years worth of mortgage payments!! Oh and note to self - buy sunscreen
|
We live in VERY interesting time.
Exciting for sure. a lot of people talking about pole shift, 11-11, planet X, RFID chips, HAARP(Russians have woodpecker system), end of there world. One thing for sure, it is end of the world as we know it! |
I just never really knew anything about this at all. I can only wonder about how many people have dug themselves shelter underground with canned goods that will last forever. For me, if this would happen, I would rather die then hide underground trying to exist.
First it was nuclear bombs, then aliens, asteroids and now this... I just wish I knew for sure so I would pay my bills and see the world for awhile before it ended. You know foreclosures, repo men and tax collectors would work until we burned up taking all out stuff. |
...stuff like this used to scare the b-jezus out of me. Now I kind of take everything with a grain of salt. Y2K never REALLY was a big deal, the asteroid never hit (although, realistically I think this is the most realistic end-of-days scenario in my mind)
Interesting read, but not too sure it'll ever ammount to anything LOL |
Well you gave me more stuff to sink my teeth into on a Saturday night... I really am pathetic.... I have no idea of what most of this stuff you mentioned really is.

2012
My teenage son has been freaked out about this for quite awhile now. He's asked several times for permission to build a bunker ;) I think it's very widespread and hyped in the teen domain... I remind him how we all worried about Y2K when he was 10, and nothing happened. Let's hope this is the same :P
Meanwhile I guess we shouldn't sweat the hit on our RRSPs, eh? We might never get the chance to use them - LOL |
IN my childhood and teens it was nuclear war. Remember Red Dawn and all the other movies out there. It scared me pretty bad as a child. Its sad to see it happening in the newer generations as well. I would love to know what your son thinks is going to happen exactly?

2012 ,
Perfect, I should have all my credit cards maxed out by then. |
Thanks.

I remember being terrified of nukes at his age, too (he's 18). My mother remembers practicing in school for bomb attacks (1950s). Every generation seems to have something to freak them out, but this one has information overload at their fingertips... I like that comment about maxing out the credit cards - Good idea!! LOL |
Mine are maxed out already
Bring it on! |
My son just reminded me that there's no point in spending money on Christmas gifts that year, either - LOL
|
I heard that the partical accelerator over in... Europe? I cant even remember where it is.... the one they feared would cause a black hole... actually did but we wont notice it until 2012 :s
Ive studied Mayan culture intensely throughout my schooling and they were spot on with a lot of things, but every culture has an 'end of the world'. Its the inability of humans to wrap their heads around the concept of infinity, or forever. The vastness of time and space is so hard for me to grasp. So things must come to an end for us eventually. But even if humans are removed (which will be a blessing on this earth!) life will continue, in some form or another. :) |
I don't really think anything will happen, but if it did I guess I wont have to worry about a pension plan!
|
Phew, now I don't have to worry about that asteroid that's supposed to hit us in 2029
|
I think it mean's, spend way more money on fun fish stuff! And go out with a in house
tidal wave. |
bah humbug
|
+1 to the fact that it's hard for humans to grasp the concept of infinity.
I never used to think much of the stars. Then I had to take an astrology course in college and found out that what we see could really be gone. (the ammount of time it takes for the light from the star/planet to travel to our eyes...LIGHT YEARS). It's alot more complex, but basically, when you look up, there's a good chance that the stars you are seeing are already burned out. RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD! |

I think our society should decide that the world will end in 4044. Let's go with April 1st of that year. Um, let's say the planets will all collide, and maybe a star or two will burn out close to our solar system...Anything else we could add? We could call it the Canreef Prediction...
Let the teens of 4040 start their freak out - LOL |

Higgs boson my a** Thats the problem with the bloody scientists ...always making sh*t up and people believe them. |
The world will not end simply because human beings disappear from it. The world did just fine for millions of years before we showed up and will do just fine without us, even better perhaps.

Here's a webcam page for the Hadron collider:

The whole 2012 thing will probably become the latest armageddon 'fad' when the hype & marketing surrounding Roland Emmerich's movie '2012' gets underway later this year.
It's an interesting looking movie staring John Cussack, with quite a few of the VFX shots done at Bridge Studios in Burnaby, BC. 2012 Movie Link . |
Does this mean as tax payers we wont have to pay for the 2010 Olympic? Thats the best news in months.

Is this kinda like when all computers were supposed to crash in Y2K?

Looks like we're all going to get wet.... |
Wow 4 pages of posts and not 1 mention of Nostradamus. He has apparently be correct in the past many times. Even got 9-11 right if you interpret his wrightings correctly. Its been a few years but i remember reading that he apparently is predicting WW3 in around 2012 but the end of the world not until something like 3845 or something.
Now dont get started on the Bible Code thats just wack. |
I was just going to bring him up actually. Wonder who is supposed to be the third Anti-Christ?
Have you ever read books containing his predictions. Some of them are so vast you have to wait for someone to tell you what it means and others are so spot on it's incredbile. I was doing some reading up on this 2012 stuff and some people think that it will be the end of humanity as we currently see it. Not total death, but an awakening, even going so far as to say we will get psychic abilities...wierd :der: |
I have read much of his writings and always thought it was amazing. However I don't want to fall into the traps of believing anything that can be interpreted how we feel it should. I don't want to spend the nest four years worrying about something, but it does make one wonder. I also saw the movie trailer it was amazing. We as human beings are so small and insignificant in the universe and the possibilities of anything are endless.
It just saddens me that our youth are afraid of the end coming so soon. All of us should live each day like it is our last and rejoice in the time we are granted to live. If indeed the end is coming we should do all that we can do for our happiness and live our lives to the fullest. We might not be here tomorrow, and we don't have the luxury of knowing when we will go... Quote:

2012 yeah i heard about it, dont belive it though, i think its better to be oblivious to the fact that the sky is falling its easier to accept it when it happens dying is a part of life whether its now or later its going to happen to everybody and everything although we would surely explode if the poles shifted (due to lack of gravity)
|
Antichrist? LOL well acording to all of the bible code extracts on youtube its supposidly Vladimir Putin.
|
Well here goes.
From what I have come to understand humanity is evolving at a rate not seen since we emerged from water. Science proves this too. We are developing a 3rd Helix in our DNA, some children being born right now already have this Helix. These children are born lighter, reported to be able to move objects with thought, fill empty glasses of water by looking at them and they are telepathic. The Mayan calendar is being mis-interpereted. By man!? how can this be? LOL The end of "time" is referring the end of keeping track of time, when once again we remember that time itself is man-made and simply does not exist. There is a change taking place on our planet right now, it started some years ago. It is being reported in all sectors of life and being called something different by each one. Science says this...., religion says this....,theologist say this....,each sector is seeing something and describing it the way they are seeing it. The way it makes sense to them, but they are ALL seeing it. I am sure I have lost a few of you by now which is okay, I am just another "source" describing it in a way that makes sense to me. Some will hear what I say while others won't, they will have to hear it in a way that makes sense to them. It will have to come from the source they currently rely on for their information. I have spent my entire life exploring this thing we call life, where we are, how our world works, why we are here and where we are going. I have explored many areas but do not adhere to any one belief system. I look for the common denominators, the things they ALL agree on. I am happy to report that after 38 yrs I have figured it out and can explain it on pretty much any level. However, due to the fact that these are my beliefs and only that I am not interested in participating in any arguments or debates. I know what I know because I am here to help but the nature of my message excludes arguing or trying to force my perceptions on those that do not wish to hear them. That being said if any of you would like to know more and are coming with an open mind I would be more then happy to share my findings with you. PM me or send me an email at stacymartin22@shaw.ca This is truly the best time to have ever lived! Stacey |

As for the poles switching, keep in mind this does happen every half million years or so and I don't know where the date 2012 came from because as far as I know it has only been narrowed down to within the next 1000 years. I'm not sure how anyone could pin point the date if they have no clue how long the process takes. Also Humans have not been through this before but apes have. I wouldn't expect much other than a lot of electrical storms and interference. Also keep in mind many other "world end" predictions made have already passed and we're still here. Hopefully most of society isn't too gullible to buy into any of this. |
I am on the fence about it and HOPE something does happen. Humanity is all abut money and profit. I really hope something does happen to control the population although I love my life and want to be here until I am old. People do not care what is happening in this world, and hopefully nature does do something to knock out population down. The earth owes us nothing and we should respect it. Many of us do, but hopefully mother nature MAKES us either change our ways or kills us off. I am not perfect and I know I don't help the earth's cause and protection the way that I should, however that is a whole different topic altogether.
