aiptasia control

Just looking for everyones ways of getting rid of these pests once their in your tank

beeve 02-21-2009 12:31 AM

I found injecting them with ph up works pretty good.

ILIKECOUGARS 02-21-2009 12:45 AM

Pepperment Shrimps to get rid of them and to control them.

Sushiman 02-21-2009 12:46 AM

Copperband Butterfly works really well in my experience.

achilles101 02-21-2009 12:48 AM

had both pepermints and coppers but didnt eat them did you have to condition them first?

ILIKECOUGARS 02-21-2009 01:34 AM

I put in 3 Berghia nudibranchs to never see them again, used Aiptasia X but you can'nt get all of them cause they under and between the live rock. Then put in 4 pepperment shrimps in which did the trick for me. No more aiptasia. I notice the odd one popping up, but gone in a few days.

I have a copperband butterfly, she eats the little ones. The big ones are not on her menu though. I tried lemon juice which just seems to make them multiply. I'm going to take a chance and try some peppermint and hope my Puffer does not get them.

+1 lemon juice is no solution.

I haven't had any luck with Aiptasia X either. I've tried it 3 times now and the aiptasia come back the next day like nothing had happend. The only method I've ever used that pseudo-worked was injecting kalk mixed with boiling water and even then its a bit of a crap shoot.

Just finished giving Joe' Juice to like 30+, seems to pretty much dissolve the little bastards. And I got a pepermint shrimp today to hopefully get the ones I cannot get to.

I've had good luck with peppermint shrimp, ended up with 3 of them before aiptasia disappeared, so sometimes it may take more then one before you find one that will eat them.

used Tailored Aquatics Aiptasia Destroyer, simply melted them away, you have to be able to reach them to get them though.

Berghia nudibranchs worked for me.

Also great fan of Tailored Aquatics aptasia destroyer.

I don't mix all at once unless you need to cover a really big area. I split it into 3 portions and then only mixed when I needed it. Really stretched the bottle for quite a while since each mixed batch will keep for a month.

I love all his products.
