My new sumpless 40 breeder reef

So it was supposed to be a KISS system but with all the equipment I'm using, maybe not...

250w HQI PFO mini with 14k Hamilton bulb
Tunze 9002 nano skimmer
Tunze Nano cleaner
Tunze Calcium Automat w/20lb co2
Tunze Osmolator
Tunze Nano stream 6025
Neptune Aquacontroller Jr

At least it will be almost zero maintenance, which is what I was going for.

Here's a pic I took right now:

mseepman 02-11-2009 01:59 AM

Very Nice. I agree, for KISS, that is one well done setup.

Hello

Your new tank looks great, did you have anything left over that you might want to sell?? PM me if so, Thanks

tang daddy 02-11-2009 03:27 AM

wow so you managed to get everything in.....

looks pretty good!

Jack 02-11-2009 04:01 AM

Thanks Mike but I wish the camera would show the colours of the corals. Maybe a video would be better.

Crammed a lot of my favorites in there.

I've got a breeding pair of ORA percs. They're in the back hosting in the colt coral.

Also moved over my coral beauty, coral banded shrimp, a red scarlet, and some trochus.

Now I'm interested in getting some nice zoo frags and stuff.

GreenSpottedPuffer 02-11-2009 04:05 AM

Looks really great Jack!

Your going to have to do a lot of fragging though to keep things like that ;) Glad it worked out nicely.

I saw all your HUGE colonies at J&L today...

christyf5 02-11-2009 04:05 AM

LOL more like the KISAS(s) system: Keep it super automated, suckaz!

Looks awesome!

Jack 02-11-2009 04:14 AM

Thanks christy.

You have wicked camera skills maybe we can meet sometime! I live right by J&L.

christyf5 02-11-2009 04:16 AM

You bet, I'll be over for the frag swap, I'll bring my camera and maybe we can meet up

Cameron 02-11-2009 04:35 AM

Hey Jason

It's a media compartment that has a surface skimmer built into it. Kinda works like an overflow.

As the tank evaporates the water level inside the nano cleaner goes down but the tank stays at the same level... sorta like a mini sump. That's where the osmolator sensors go. I get no surface scum with it and it's a good place for floss, carbon or GFO.

Thanks Brad

Do you think zeo additives would hurt or help a little tank like this?

Delphinus 02-11-2009 06:01 AM

Nice little setup Jack! Is that a Rumphella gorg on the left there? It's enormous!

Personally, I'd let it run for a while and see what it does. If you think it's lacking in a couple of months, look into what, if any, zeo product might help.

Ha Jack

The tank looks great.

I'm not positive on the ID but it's photosynthetic and hardy.

Delphinus 02-11-2009 05:04 PM

If you post a closeup I can maybe tell you. I'm guessing it is Rumphella though. Sort of yellowish, really tiny polyps? (And photosynthetic :D )

That is a sweet piece. I'm guessing it's indeed Rumphella sp. (for whatever my guess is worth). Love the growth pattern.

I have the same species and its a very hardy gorgonian whatever it is. Grows much faster than my others as well. I have seen Jack's yellow gorgonian in person and its VERY nice and very large. I have found its also one of the yellow species of photosynthetic gorg that keeps its color well. Many of my other yellow ones went brown.

Nice picture Jack.

Delphinus 02-12-2009 05:23 PM

If I'm ever out your guy's way I'm hitting one of you guys up for a frag of that. ;)
