LTB Portable MP3/Video Player

Any suggestions? There are lots of choices out there so I was wondering what people here use and like.

1. I want to be able to play video, standard formats without having to re-encode.
2. Around 2-4GB storage with additional SD slot.
3. MUST have an FM tuner.
4. Looking to spend ~$100.00. 2nd hand is ok.

Any suggestions welcomed. Thank you.

The actual functioning of the Ipod touch is awkward at best. I stay away from the touch.

The little creative zen is nice, last time I looked it was 80 bucks or something. I had one and thought i would be upgrading by getting an ipod and sold it. Mistake it was an awesome little player. It had all the features you mentioned. (it was the black one with the wide screen) they have them at futureshop.

Yep thats it, seems higher priced than last time I looked. Maybe I saw it on sale. But yep it is a really good player.

i have been using a touch for over a year now. i think its the best player i have ever bought and now cosidering upgrading to a iphone. if you have a friend with a iphone its basically the same thing, minus the fact that you need wifi for an internet connection and it doesn't have the phone feature. i would highly reccomend it for what you want.

The touch buttons are strictly for looks, for a music play (minus all the crap like wifi, games etc... since snaz did not mention them in his requirements) a music player is better served with quick access to changing songs and inc/dec the volume, which the touch does not have, sure it's not hard but its not as easy as pushing a button quickly (through a pocket even) that most other players can do. The touch you almost need to look at it. Unless of course you want to pay extra for the remote control units that can change settings remotely. All in all the touch is a gimmick, that seems to have tricked people into buying, plus itunes sucks, there are alternatives of course. I bought into the hype...wish i hadn't. Go to the store and put a touch in your pocket and then any other player and see which is more convenient to use :)

Thanks Pan. Yes the Creative Zen looks to be what I'm looking for. I'll google around for reviews and bugs and such.

The iWhatevers do not have an FM tuner which is a must for me. And yes I like to flip songs or decrease volume from inside my pocket so again no iTouch. I have held an iTouch and yes they are very clever but for the above reasons they are not what I am looking for.

Have you considered the Microsoft Zune? It's a pretty cool little music / media player, I also believe it has an FM tuner.

Just a question, but have you owned one???

I have mine in a pocket while i am snowboarding and there is a peice of see through plastic in front of it and it still picks up what i want to do when i touch it. It has absolutely everything in it. I have owned many different players and this one is my favorite. As for itunes, i think its great. I for one am not down for downloading songs and half the time when you do they are different in volumes. imo i would rather pay the 99cents for a song or $7 for a cd off itunes.

Than again its all up to him and what he wants. I haven't regreted my touch in any way.

Yes I have, as well as several others and if you have looked around you will find the felxibility lacking in itunes compared to other software is astonishing, second there is no way way that selecting songs or volume is as easy on the touch as other players...the "touch" is a visual player most are not including the other ipods. it is so easy to touch the wrong buttom it makes it useless unless you are looking right at it. but as i said above...he should look at a few in store and compare. i think even you would find that there are quite a few players that if in someones pocket are far easier to navigate then a touch. I think people just like pulling them out and showing off...for a strictly music/video/fm it is a waste of money. (when you compare the video and the quality of the video with say the zen and take away all the features of the ipod that snaz was not looking for, the ipod would be a waste of money for him)

Incidentally i did say i bought a touch in one of my first posts....hmm..

To each there own i guess

I know my friends who have it enjoy it and we all use ours alot. But As he stated it doesn't have the fm feature so its out of his choices.

sigh...

I have always been a fan of scandisk, well made, easy to use, no propriatary software just drag and drop filles, and the most bang for your buck.
