Where to get tank drilled ?

Anyone know where I can go to get my tank drilled in Calgary? I am just too scared and want to give the responsibility to someone else.

maybe a glass shop? just a thought

At one point I called around to a few places and most were willing to do it but wouldn't guarantee it if they broke it. I ended up drilling a couple holes myself, which turned out to be pretty easy.

Place a phone call to red coral and see what they can do. i know they have the hole saw.

Ha, thats kind of pointless if they don't guarantee you get it back in one piece..

Hmm I will check Red Coral. Thanks ElGuappo.

anyone that gaurantees it back in one piece is crazy. If you find a crazy person, please post their name here so everyone can go there. Nobody around here will do that. I know I wouldn't!

whiteangelbw 02-05-2009 02:25 AM

red coral did my tank, no guantee but they didn't crack it.

xtreme 02-05-2009 02:53 AM

What size holes do you need and how thick is your glass?

fishytime 02-05-2009 03:06 AM

We can punch all the holes you want.

I really don't see the point in paying someone to do it if theres no guarantee, might as well do it myself then!!

I have no clue at all, I am just in the planning stages of adding a sump to my already established tank. I just measured the glass with a tape measure, 1/4" thick.

I intend to drill mine. I never did it before. Any tips would be appreciated.

I purchased the cheap diamond hole bits off ebay from the guy from hongkong. He's really popular with the RC site DIY fanboys. Anyways I just bought one of those 65 cent toilet wax rings to hold water like a dam while I drilled in order to cool the bit. Started the bit on like a 45 degree angle and slowly worked to a 90 degree. Then I just let the weight of the drill work its way through the glass. I did 3 holes and almost pooped my pants with each one but in the end it really wasn't that hard and i'll have no problem drilling my next tank.

Oh yeh, I actually have pictures somewhere that I could resize and post for you if you really need them. Will check this thread tomorrow, off to bed I go!

emerald crab 02-05-2009 06:44 AM

Did you use a template to start the bit ?
