That fish looks way better under your lights than it did at the store! Great buy!

bignose 01-05-2009 04:24 AM

Just out of curiosity how much does a fish like that cost?
I've never seen one in a store myself.

Lance 01-05-2009 04:33 AM

Oh for sure, it wasn't under any lights in the store. I knew as soon as I saw it that it would have great color under tank lighting, I guess maybe others didn't notice that.

I've seen a red one sell for $600 and a purple one for over $1000 on J&L. This one is a purplely-red and the LFS here in town was only asking $250!! Plus the guy was so nice he even gave me another discount  I'm honestly amazed no one else bought it. Plus trained on frozen, doesn't get any better.

Thanks for the comments all!!

Which of your tanks is he going in? Wouldn't want him in with some smaller, less mobile fish ;)

i'd love to know more about the inhabitants in that tank.
Awesome Predators and a seahorse, don't see that every day.

I'd love to give it a shot myself.

Delphinus 01-09-2009 04:01 AM

Pretty nice dude! Wow.

Hey, wasn't your frogfish redder than that at one point? Or was it always like that? Or do they change colour over time, or is it a mood thing?

midgetwaiter 01-09-2009 04:30 AM

Dude I can't believe you are getting away with that combo! Anyone of those fish could pick off the seahorse and it looks like the frogfish and the lion are both small enough to be a rhino snack at any time.

I would have never risked it myself but it sure makes for an awesome combo. I hope it works out long term.

Chaloupa 01-09-2009 04:33 AM

Beautiful pic...and 2 gorgeous fish! Nice!

Boomboy 01-09-2009 04:49 AM

Man i want to come over and see all your fish, youve got some very amazing fish.

Thanks. The frog fish was once much more colorful. Over time he has changed his color to better blend into the suroundings, I suspect this is pretty normal behavior. Keeping some bright orange coral would likely help bring his color back. I do miss his crazy color but he's still a cool fish.

I think the key is the smaller frogfish, that's the guy you have to worry about but he's too small to take on anything else in the tank. Accidents have occurred when food is between two tank mates but no harm done. I don't think the rhino could eat the frogfish as it's still too big of a meal, and the lion is not that much smaller than the rhino. The rhino could probably eat the seahorse but hasn't shown any interest at this point and seems to be pretty specific on what he eats, for now anyway.
I might just me lucky but everything seems to get along quite well.
