PVC Framing...
 

Alright, so I get the fact that you lay out what you want, drill the rocks and then zip tie em to the pvc. What are the holes in the PVC for? I know some of them would be used for the ties...but are the rest just for flow? Is there an extra pump needed? Or is it just for "normal" waterflow?

Could people please post pics of their PVC framework...I like the idea of it, but am having a bit of a hard time wrapping my head around it.

No, you're probably right (flow and for the zip ties)

I get it...so if my fish feel the uncanny desire to draw their surroundings the pens will be handy...excellent LOL

They are just to prevent stagnant water in the PVC.

My frame is more just a basic support to allow more flow under the back of the rock.

Brian is your rockwork setup like a wall sortof? Sloping back to front? I want archways and overhangs.... similar to alot of the 300+ gallon tanks we see here and on ReefCentral..but in a smaller, 50 gallon scale LOL

Mine is based on two peaks with a canyon that runs to the back wall. Inspired by Palletta's book and the amazing Oregonreef.com. I have 36" front to back to help. Caves and overhangs were built using the pvc support. If you can get ahold of Vol. 3 of The Reef Aquarium there is a great chapter on backgrounds and aquascaping using alternative methods.
