You take your sad country seriously! Good artist selection though. Looks like a whos who of my pickup glovebox, if you inclue David Allen Coe -- Im convinced "faster horses, younger women" is a love song!

Randy, a great taste in music.

Ha, thanks Doug. I listen to pretty much everything, so long as it's not Rap or Techno wierd stuff. When I was in university I studied listening to the likes of Vivaldi and Bach, but I tend to crank the Johnny/classic country (much to the dismay of everyone esle in the shop) when I'm tattooing or drawing for tattoos. My Ipod is currently 401 songs ranging in artists from Johnny, Patsy, Merle, George etc all the way through to Kiss, Rise Against, DOA etc. Quite a variety!

KennyKen 12-30-2008 06:38 PM

where do you tattoo?

Ok; How about;

Unchained Melody-Rightous Brothers
At Last - Etta James
Words get in the way-Gloria Estefan
In Dreams - Roy Orbison
Never tear us apart - INXS
Wicked Game - ChriS Isaak
2 steps behind - Def Leppard
Beth -Kiss
Only You- The Platters
Oh Pretty Lady - Trooper

Rbacchiega 12-31-2008 03:38 AM

oooh Roy Orbison...I forgot about him. Such a sad song In Dreams...it was written after his first wife was killed in an accident and he wrote it for her (same with Claudette when she was alive actually)

dsaundry 12-31-2008 03:39 AM

Forgot to mention, If I am in a bad mood I like

Love Stinks - J-Geil
3 dressed up as a 9 - Trooper
Girls, Girls Girls - Motley Crew
Tainted Love - Soft Cell or Marilyn Manson
Too Late for Love- Def Leppard

lastlight 12-31-2008 03:40 AM

Damn good call on 'In Dreams'. That entire album is GOLD.

dsaundry 12-31-2008 03:42 AM

Yup I love Roy Orbison but when I got married I had to use Etta James, At Last.
Of course I have heard it in a few commercials since but she is a fantastic lady, Cant wait to see how Beyonce does her in the movie thats coming out about her life.....

lastlight, the more I learn about you the more I'm convinced you and I might be the same person. Live in Evergreen, cats, reef tanks, The Cure ... and so far I've never seen the two of us in the same room at the same time. Hmmmmmm. Conspiracy!

Uh, little late I'm too tired to list out ten specifically, but the first few that do come to mind (some listed already by others with some rather good taste I must say!) are:

Just Like Heaven - The Cure
Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division
Bizarre Love Triange - New Order
Being Boring - Pet Shop Boys
A Little Respect - Erasure
Love Song - Simple Minds
If You Leave - Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark

... Yeah Ok you can see I'm a product of 80's decade music. BEST. DECADE. FOR MUSIC. EVER. There - I said it. It's out. Deal with it!

lastlight 12-31-2008 06:50 AM

Tony you kick arse hard.

Not many would admit this but OMD is my favorite band (followed close by New Order, DM, and the Cure). Even though many of their songs are seemingly silly and absurd on the surface I find many to be extremely emotional. Tough to explain.

I own a ton of their stuff on vinyl and don't own a record player. Sucker for artwork as well...

'Secret' is pretty damn romantic...

Delphinus 12-31-2008 06:59 AM

I agree, those that dismiss these songs are not giving them a proper chance. Look at "Mad World" (since I brought it up in another thread I'll bring it up here too ). When you listen to Tears for Fears you could easily think it just another techno dance track. But listen to the lyrics.. like Gary Jules did and hear his version.. and .. uh, wow .. words fail me.

OMD, New Order, PSB, The Cure .. definitely in my list of favourite artists. Just Like Heaven has been one of my favourite single pieces of music since the first time I heard it well over 20 years ago and it still holds for me.

I remember once as a 17 year old calling some stupid radio station, think it was 92, requesting a Cure song and was told "We don't play The Cure. <click>". I'd love to talk to that chick now. "Hey remember me? Remember what I requested? YEAH WELL SO DO I. I see you'll play the Cure NOW, but you know what? YOU STILL SUCK."

lastlight 12-31-2008 07:08 AM

Guess I'll add to this thread as they come to me haha.

Flock of Seagulls - Space age love song, The More You Live The More You Love (many gems by a band thought to be one-hitters)
Kate Bush - Hounds of love
New Order - Leave me alone, Elegia
Bruce Cockburn - Lovers in a dangerous time
red house painters - katysong
the church - destination
john lennon - oh yoko
cat stevens - here comes my baby
crowded house - fall at your feet
u2 - one, all i want is you
depeche mode - somebody

lastlight 12-31-2008 07:10 AM

Crap how could I forget tears for fears?! Famous last words has a special place in my heart.

Dude...SLEEPOVER.

Rbacchiega 12-31-2008 07:23 AM

Tony, when you were listening to the "new" music of the 80s I was crawling around in diapers LOL

But I couldn't agree with you more. The 80s were a great time for music. I think it's kind of gone downhill post '95 (when I was 10 LOL). There are still some great artists/songs...but nowhere near what was being produced before. 'Scuze me while I go sing into my computer and make it a chart topper

I've always said any person with taste could sell nearly all their music so long as they have a copy of donnie darko.
