LPS auction?

I hope you don't mind I made a new thread for people to list what they would like to see on an LPS auction so we don't clog up that SPS thread.

Personally, I'd like to see one of each:

~ Chalice
~ Cyphastrea (that meteor shower one...wow!!)
~ Green w/ purple tip frogspawn (others might not be interested in this one, but I have a Euphyllia forest hehe)
~ Micro and/or Acan
~ Dendro fistula
~ Anything blue (except Cloves), even a blue Ric would be nice to see on there

I already have a Duncan, but that would be another good one to add.

If you don't do an auction I may just buy it all anyway.

the above listed group seems like something that would be great to bid on. The idea being once again that the items will be colorful and a little more on the rare side.

while I love dendrophyllia and realize that it fits the "rare" category, I think that a lot of people, myself included, just can't really cater to the fact that it needs food almost every single day.

suggestion for the chalice: the orange sherbet you have listed right now; holy cowwww.

shrug on the frogspawn; for some reason they never really did "it" for me.

duncans aren't really rare or hard to find these days imo; i might be biased on this one since I already own a good colony :) Id take another though.

edit: how about a good micromussa? or a really nice favia?

just a suggestion..

maybe for the frogspawn it could be one of those really nice all purple or all red frogspawn

Request for an auction - I like the way you canreef folk think!

Ok, as a heads up, this is what I am thinking LPS wise. No guarantees, but I should be able to do this shortly, and with a LOW starting price again to tickle that buying bone

1. Orange Sherber Chalice - well healed and about 1" in diameter encrusted on an aragonite disk. wicked.

2. A medium/large meteor shower cyphastrea (encrusted all the way around on liverock)

3. A few polyps of dendro

4. A few polpys of duncan

5. An aussie acan or a micro (5+ polyps)

5. My "wicked" torch (one or two heads) This one, my most requested LPS frag.

WOW!

I look forward to this auction making way.

How about a Favia? Justinl reminded me about how them and I would like to see it in the mix if possible.

Myka 12-07-2008 01:02 PM

I like the looks of the proposed auction!!!!! I owe a green Torch to someone, so that would be a perfect addition! Of course if I win the auction I will have the add a couple things. :D

Can you explain how this works it sounds good, but not sure how it works. The bidding for example how does it work? that sounds dumb. If you were to sell these items what
would you charge. It seems to me that you may pay more than what it is worth. I dunno!
Whatis the advantage here?

justinl 12-07-2008 04:48 PM

okay... well then. Ive just changed my mind on the frogspawn because that pic definitely does it for me. :D

might not be bad to auction it and post the price you would usually retail each piece for? Im sure a lot of people like reference points

Trigger Man 12-07-2008 07:51 PM

I think that is always the risk with auctions, in the end the market as well as impulse makes the bids go up. I think in the end you have to decide beforehand what the top price you are willing to pay is and stick with that. Look at the sps auction right now, the starting bid was $ 100.00 and moved quickly to what is currently $ 325 with a couple of days left to bid. For me when I was putting in bids I figured out what frags normally go for from other sites selling frags, and then took into consideration what it costs to ship the frags here. I know what my top bid will be, and hopefully I don't get to carried away with the idea of bidding and go over my top bid amount.

wickedfrags 12-09-2008 12:04 PM

IME, the advantage is that you have an opportunity to get a pack at a great price if others chose not to bid, or feel the pack is not that expensive.

Also, the frags in the pack are available now - probably when you want them!!! Most places say they can get things, maybe even everything, but it often takes them months, years or maybe they never get it. The frag pack is available now :)

Have thought about adding the retail price for each, but not sure what real value it will add to the auction. I suspect most people have an idea what the pieces are worth, and what shipping is worth, so it is really a matter of what the individual buyer feels the pieces are worth.

Well I will add a green torch to the frag pack then. I also have another one that is not quite as brilliant, but still very nice.

all red frogspawn - I'll be honest in over 10 years in the saltwater hobby I have never seen one for sale, at least in Toronto, and we have alot of aquarium stores. The ones the stores "said were red", well most the time I saw them, they were not red, more a brown/beige....I would love to see one and would love to buy one though!

I am so choked, that after I requested an LPS auction that I missed it due to lack of internet access!! I work on the oil rigs, and my Telus Aircard wasn't giving me any internet reception. =[

When will you have another LPS auction? :o
