100% Best Service in calgary

My dealing with the owner and staff at redcoral has been very very satisfying.
I Love the choice of stock inside the store, even got some things special ordered and had them arrive 2 days after.
As for advice I normaly go home and research what a LFS has told me only to find contrary advice online, not the case with redcoral.
I had to have some bulkheads drilled in 3 of my tanks, one still with living enitiys within it, doug an employee offered to come to my home to drill me my bulkheads saving me much time transporting my tanks, all 3 bulkhead holes were drilled and i was on my way right away to plumb it all up.
I have never seen a sick fish here and the quality of the coral is very impressive, and even if they dont have what u need at the time its there a short few days after.

My best dealing with a LFS ever, the owner is very knowlagble, I purchased for my extra tanks some hardware and got the best advice ever.
For my sump they are going to custom build me one, and i must say at a very decent price.

I also bought some t5 lighting and MH here both with good advice and pricing.
Thier location is pretty easy to navigate to being right off john laurie and near northland mall.

If you have never been to redcoral take a nice drive and really ask them some questions, you will be very happy with thier answers.

My next purchase for hardware from these fellows is going to be a dart sump pump, and im pretty sure im in love with one of thier clams.

Give these guys a nice rating if you enjoyed thier service, they are under new ownership and are true hobbiests not wanting to sell you everything you dont need or cant use. I really think this place is going to go far.

Well thats about all i can say about these gents, they even told me about canreef.com /

Seamazter;
Thanks for the kind words and we are more than happy to lend that helping hand to ensure your setup is where you want it. Thanks again.
Kevin

Yes, I concur. I went to Red Coral for the first time about a month ago. Kevin was awesome to deal with, always cheerful, always willing to talk. Always has a good deal on things, even throwing in a frag or two which my purchases. I've been to every other store in Calgary, and none have the service and care that red coral does. Kudos Kev.

ElGuappo 12-04-2008 06:25 PM

Always nice when you get treated like a person instead of a wallet isnt it.

Never a bad thing to say about kevin and doug. its a nice no pressure place they have going there.

Carmen 12-04-2008 06:51 PM

One of, if not the only, place in Calgary that strives to provide the BEST customer service!!! (No matter how many times you have been in the store just browsing!) I too can not say enough about Kevin and Doug. They always stand behing their livestock/product and are always willing to answer questions. Thanks Guys!

spikehs 12-04-2008 08:42 PM

Hmmm haven't been there yet, perhaps I'll give it a try when my tank is setup.

Is there any chance you guys could make an ora fish order? I going to try and make my tank 100% tank raised... perhaps a pair of the ora banggai's?

rstar 12-04-2008 09:04 PM

I agree, stopped in there on my way back from my Honeymmon with my wife in Oct. EXCELLENT service, willing to answer questions and even threw in a free frag! Ive alredy recommended him to a few people. My brother in law will be stopping in at the begining of january when he is passing through from a wedding in Banff!

Seamazter 12-04-2008 09:23 PM

Ahha, I am not the only one impressed with this store very good.

mseepman 12-04-2008 09:52 PM

I concur, excellent service. I stopped there during my last trip to Calgary and spent far more than I planned just because of how they treated me.

Trigger Man 12-04-2008 10:07 PM

Yup. Kevin and Doug are great people to talk to, and they are working very hard to bring in the best products and the healthiest corals and fish. It seems like every time I'm in there they have another new product in. Hands down they have the best selection of SPS in the city, and are more then willing to try to special order things for you if they do not have it in stock.

fishytime 12-05-2008 02:19 AM

Aw shucks....my face is all red:redface:. Its already been said that Kevin and I were and are hobbyists first and foremost. We draw upon our experience and the experiences of thousands of other reefers around the world through this and other forums. We use those experiences to make our decisions about what we would like to bring in as far as dry goods and other equipment is concerned. It has been a constant search for the right supplier for fish and coral. Trying to find the best quality and selection has proven to not be the easiest task. We are just now starting to get through the initial growing pains and thanks to all you customers that have helped us through it. We feel that we can take the Calgary lfs to the next level, somewhere between the "big chain store" and the two man operations.

Thanks for all the compliments.
Doug.

I was in Calgary a couple of months ago and went to Red Coral just to have a look around. After browsing the store, I introduced myself to Kevin and we had a nice chat about all things salty. Very nice fellow, and very nice store. Great selection of healthy fish, corals etc. To make a long story short I bought about $400 of corals. (Can't help myself). Kevin did an excellent job of packaging for me as I had to take them home on the plane. All corals made it home in great shape. All-in-all a great experience and I will definitely stop in again when I'm up that way.

How did you take the corals on the plane? Did you do it as carry on, and what carrier did you use?

Lance 12-05-2008 03:50 AM

I had them in a cooler, (well taped), and labelled, and asked for them to be placed in oversize baggage which supposedly is handled more carefully and placed in a different area of cargo. WestJet assured me they would be taken care of and they were good to their word, as there was no problems.

karazy 12-05-2008 04:13 AM

Red coral= pwn.

Red coral is just awesome. I haven't had the chance to meet kevin yet, but i already know he's awesome. and Doug is just the best. he's like a mother Teresa of reefing, for newbs and pros.

the store is wonderful, they have awesome display tanks for both big and nano tanks, and the stock is always way up there.

i definitely know where my first ever coral is coming from

EmilyB 12-05-2008 05:33 AM

I wouldn't shop anywhere else in Calgary at the moment.

superduperwesman 12-05-2008 05:47 AM

I'm also very happy with my experiences there thus far... only bad thing I can say is it isn't the best location b/c it's too far from my house. I'd prefer a block and a half ahah :D

Trigger Man 12-05-2008 04:49 PM

Might have to start a weekly shuttle, being that I'm out in Chestermere, and move through Calgary picking up others that want to go there. Now all I need is a bus.

I'm in Conrich... Rainbow Rd. You know where that is??

Well, I have to put my two cents in now.. I have only been to Red Coral once, and that one visit was very brief, but very enjoyable. Kevin is a standup guy, very generous and just flat out amazing to deal with... always has time for his customers! They have gone out on a limb for me by helping me out with finding some new lighting a while back, MUCH appreciated! No other LFS has done this for me, ever.

Basically in short, the first time I went there, I was treated better and just felt very comforatable in there than I have in any other LFS I have been to thus far. I was amazed by their customer service and the way they run their store. Great guys, great service, great livestock makes for one great store!

lastlight 12-05-2008 08:17 PM

I've never bought anything there and still get treated like a customer who has. The nice without strings attached nice. I feel relaxed and like I'm just talking tanks with a buddy. Always worth the drive and I will spend some coin there in the future. I would have already if some of my equipment could have been easily obtained there.

ElGuappo 12-05-2008 09:50 PM

was just there and Yikes do they have some nice fish. not to mention the biggest PJ cardinal i have ever seen. came home empty handed and man do i wish my 25 was finsihed cycling.

Alberta-newb 12-05-2008 10:56 PM

What more can I add that hasn't been said! When I started setting up my tank I visited every shop in the city and even bought stuff at a few which I now regret. I've had nothing but success following the advice I've received from Kevin and Doug and (knock on wood) have never lost any livestock I've got at Red Coral (except one small acro which my tank wasn't ready for:redface:). I can't say that about purchases made elsewhere.

You guys have put up with me hanging around alot, asking millions of questions and basically making a nuisance of myself. I feel like family now:mrgreen:

RSM 12-06-2008 12:58 AM

Red Coral is an excellent store. They have walked me through my journey in salt water from the start and never fail to help me out when i need advice.

JDigital 12-09-2008 04:16 PM

Don't forget to keep an eye on the Weekly pictures of the Store products. I will be updating once weekly.

As for myself, I'm sure Kevin and Doug don't need me to say anything in this thread to know that I am pretty much devoted to Red Coral for most of my aquarium needs. They have done a great job in just a few months (as Kevin took over RIGHT when I started my tank), and I've had the opportunity to watch the transformation. Keep up the good work guys!!

jasond 12-09-2008 04:49 PM

Two thumbs up for Kevin and Doug from me. Great store and service.

sitandwatch 02-19-2009 03:26 AM

What a great spot for my first post, just spent some time there today getting some kick ass rock for my first aquarium. I had given up on customer service in Calgary but after spending time at Red Coral I have found it again nothing but first class.

If you are just looking or buying you must check out this store worth the trip.

fragNplug 02-27-2009 05:49 AM

So very pleased everyone is assured and feel the same way i do, this is by far the best LFS in calgary, imagine if there was one in every city....

subman 02-27-2009 05:37 PM

how about opening a store in Edmonton! We are in dire need of a good store!

stewy84 02-27-2009 08:38 PM

I Have not been to the store in about 10 months till a couple of day's ago, after walking in i was greeted by Kevin and an hour later I left the store with some goodies. Very personable and had a great chat.

I will be back to what i now think is the best customer service LFS in town.

LoveReefing 03-18-2009 06:47 PM

I started my first reef about 1 month ago. I have purchased pretty well everything at Red Coral with Kevin so far. Best store and service I have visited so far and have really valued his advice.
