Christmas lights etc
Ok, we are fast approaching that time of year, so here is my question.
Too early for lights and decorations. yay or nay or a bah-humbug..... Ps; my wife had them going up right after Halloween.....Cripes:rolleyes: |
One more week.
|
A couple neighbours took down their Halloween decorations more or less Nov 1 and replaced them with Christmas decorations. These guys went all out too. I think that's a little too early but I suppose if the weather is nice, why not. I know I've put my lights up in early November but didn't turn them on for a few weeks.
At this point though it's probably fair game. I put mine up this last weekend, took advantage of a warm afternoon. :) |
Programed the timer for the lights and put the tree up last week. If wife had what she wanted would have been Nov1. Strange though she wants the tree down just after Christmas, usually before new years.
|
I figure 1st week of December is a good time to put up lights and the tree.
|
Not until December 1st for me. Not after January 1st.
|
In my house......
Lights on and decorations up Dec. 1.... Lights off and decorations down Jan. 1. |
Put up the outside lights 2 days ago. Wife is adding some everyday, into the trees.
So, they are on now, she could not wait. Mind you, they are all LEDs |
Lights down Jan 1, I wish, basicly it's lay around and recover for a couple of days and then down by the end of the first week in January.

My wife made me put the light and tree up last week, ughhh im usually a dec 1 kinda guy!
|
Our tree and inside decorations won't go up for a couple more weeks. I'm not putting up lights on the exterior this year. Next year I want to do my big pine trees + the house. I seem to add a little more every year I put them up.
|
Lights and inside of house this weekend, Tree will go up around the 16th of Dec.
|
Mine are up outside and everything will be decorated and turned on, inside & out on Dec.1

Yup....It's that time of year again.
The wife has been on my case to get the Christmas lights up for a couple of weeks. They are up now and for some reason she will not talk to me. |

If you care to go the 'traditional' route with its religious (Catholic) implications, the practice of lighting up the home/neighbourhood typically starts on the 24 days leading up to Xmas eve. In Germany, they call it "Advent" in anticipation of the birth of Jesus. They also have an Advent Wreath which has four candles on it. The candles are lit on successive Sundays leading up to Xmas eve. When all four candles are lit, Xmas is imminent. December 6 is Nikolaus day (the origin of Santa Claus). Christmas day in most of Europe is kind of an anti-climax, gift giving happens on Xmas eve. The kids there also get something called an Advent calender - a fancy cardboard box with little windows on it. Each window is opened to reveal a piece of chocolate, but I digress. I guess my point is, traditionally lights in Europe don't go on until around the first week in December and go off in early January.
Mine are up, but I'll wait to light them until this weekend. |
I figure I have enough lights running in the house to light outside and pretend they are Christmas glow. Blue is christmasie no?:lol:

Mine go up when we get around to it. Usually the week before Christmas. |
I have decided not to do any decorating this year..... Hubby is on 12/12 shift and will be gone for Christmas/New Years.
