Reef nightmare is over

It was a size of the pencil not too long ago,it ate all of my small fish, zoas, red mushrooms, was eating leather , brain coral...
I was considering a mantis shrimp to get rid of this thing.
But got lucky and noticed a rock that it went the oother nigt.
took the rock out of the tank and started to poke it with the screw driver, the worm instantly devided on three!, and more.
it was about 12-15 inches when i got it out so you can imagine how big this thing was when relaxed!!!

it was a enuice worm.

Eew! I had a two footer, ate every zoo/ricordea/anything resembling a soft coral in my tank. Finally I figured out where he was hiding and took the rock out. I was pretty grossed out. Kudos to you on getting the close up photos. I was across the room when "we" got mine out of the rock

Der_Iron_Chef 11-25-2008 02:13 PM

I'm pretty sure that just ruined my breakfast.

Glad you got it out :)

TheMikey 11-25-2008 02:14 PM

I think the hardest part of getting one of those would be containing my excitement about getting it out.

Fire. And lots of it.

By the way, I'm never reachinging into my tank again.

reefermadness 11-25-2008 02:17 PM

I had one of those as well and it almost demolished all my zoo's.

Did I mention I hate um and they stink. Glad you got yours !

superduperwesman 11-25-2008 02:33 PM

Nasty... also makes me think twice about putting my hand in the tank

fiorano 11-25-2008 02:37 PM

... wow that things beastly hahaha

Leah 11-25-2008 02:59 PM

Ugh, how did you get it out?

Whatigot 11-25-2008 03:07 PM

Is that thing soft or armor plated?

Marlin65 11-25-2008 03:51 PM

Very cool thats a big one.

untamed 11-25-2008 03:54 PM

There you go....I've kept those in my tanks for years. I enjoyed hand feeding them. I think I probably have several hundred of them now, but they are all really small. I miss my friend, Max. Max went with my live rock in my previous tank.

I never did learn how large Max was...but he was about the thickness of a pencil. He was vegetarian, btw.

No armor but very hard to touch, got it out with the thin screw drivers and tweezers my wife helped a lot (by holding flash light and holding her breath or continuously screaming!) LOL

Myka 11-25-2008 10:27 PM

Yuck...I don't like these posts. Make me have nightmares, but so did my brittle starfish. Yeck.

OceanicCorals-Ian- 11-25-2008 10:36 PM

Holy crap! I have yet to see any of those come in with any shipments or show up in any of my past and present tanks. If my wife saw that I would be forced out of this hobby.

sweeeet. Im sorry, Im just fascinated by the little beasties. Are you sure you got it all out? Ive heard horror stories of the bits and pieces regenerating into smaller worms and getting right back at it in force like some kind of Greek myth (Im sure there was a myth like that... what was it?...)

moldrik 11-26-2008 12:40 AM

Go

If they all looked like yours untamed and were vegetarians, I think I would like having those things around in my tank as decoration. I love the way that the light refracts off the back.

I made sure to get all of it out, and after that i flushed the rock with fresh water, just to be on the safe side.
I like this worm as well but i like my corals to stay alive.
And we thought that crabs and mantis were bad, compare to this thing it not so bad anymore is it?

Lance 11-27-2008 12:40 AM

I'm thinking I may have the same little #$%*&# in my tank, but have not seen it. I've been watching the last two nights with a red light, but haven't spotted it. Did yours seem to be active shortly after lights out or early in the morning?

Starry 11-27-2008 04:25 AM

Justin, your thinking of the hydra. About as attractive also.

yes, about two hours after lights off; that is how we noticed it but, it was so sensitive that when my wife said: there, quick cut with the scissors!" it retreated fast, almost like it felt the thoughts ! (We were in a dark room a foot away from the tank !,telepathic:lol:?) And it would not show if red light is present…
I had a sump light on (opposite lighting) and because I have bare bottom I was able to see it !
