Barndoor hanger hardware?

Any ideas where to look for barn door hanger hardware? I want to build my light frame slider for my tank room and I'm having a hard time finding stuff.

UFA has stuff but it's not cheap. The guy was like, "Well, yeah, you can get cheaper ones elsewhere, but our stuff is better". I guess if I really wanted to hang a 500lb barndoor, it's what I would want, but for a 25lb lighting frame I can go with something less beefy. (I should have just asked him "Can you name a place I can get it from instead please?" Darn it.)

I checked Home Depot, Rona and Totem online .. nothing (which doesn't really surprise me - I think this is probably a little too specialized)..

Any places that sell Stanley hardware (Home Depot) should be able to special order you Stanley brand barn door track http://www.stanleyhardware.com/defau...ACK+AND+HANGER

I've never seen a light-weight version of barn door track, its all heavy duty galvanized. There is a few different styles out there, more "light", but I think the rating was still 400lbs

What kind of prices did they give you ?

what about having a welding shop ,aking one locally for you ? good highschool project. all you pay for is materials. ernest manning HS has a welding shop. when i went there i loved doing projects. again all you pay for is materials and some lucky person gets a grad out of it. just an idea.

try bathroom shower shops--tracks that hold shower doors--light weight aluminum.

Starting to look like there's no way to do this for less than $200. Yeah, maybe I'll check with the schools, the only problem is I don't know how to design this, I just want to see what I can scrape together out of what's available and see what I can make useful by playing around and trial and error.

The lighting frame weighs around 30lbs with the lights on it so maybe a curtain track idea is more feasible instead of something that needs to support up to 500lbs..

Oh DURRR! I feel like a noob after working in the hardware industry for so long...

Bypass door hardware!! That's exactly what you need; hopefully! Not sure what you're doing :P

That looks like it would work awesome! Thanks!

(... what's a bypass door? Is this something standard? I just hate asking for stuff I don't really know about because usually it gets met with blank stares. It was bad enough calling around asking for barn door hanger hardware! It usually went something like this:

Clerk: Can I help you find something
Tony: I'm looking for barn door hanger hardware?
Clerk: What do you want that for? What kind?
Tony: Uh, I was kinda hoping you wouldn't ask that, it's for an aquarium..
Clerk: ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff <sound of brain shutting off>
Tony: uh hello?

... and so on...)

They're mainly used for closets; You have two doors that can slide past one another. Rona and Home Depot will have kits in stock.

You can also try Lee Valley I guess.

dont know if they are the same as above but also try "pocket door" sliders. you know the doors that slide into the wall.

Depends what you're doing... For big bad light systems, you're probably going to need real sliding door hardware.

Cost wise, the reason this stuff is so expensive, is it comes in long lengths; and you're probably going to be paying full bore for shipping (as most places order it on demand - few if any will stock it); LTL truck freight of 10' lengths of steel is not cheap.

For those in calgary looking for this stuff - use this guide http://www.rwhardware.com/hardware/HardwareCatalog.pdf shoot me an email with your wish list, and I'll see what I can do (we stock some of their sliding door parts, and order other parts by the truckload from this manufacturer - thus sometimes my pricing is much more gooder).
